I know this has probably been done b4 but Im writing this listening too a real favourite; Radiohead's 'Go to sleep' and thought "Oh, Ide love to know everyones fave tracks."

1. How Soon is Now- by The Smiths
This ones a recent one, but the songs pretty old!! Just everything about it is extreamly cool: the guitar, his voice, the lyrics; sad and unique, and when Im feeling emotional or depressed it lifts me up.

2. Go to Sleep- by Radiohead
Because its a relaxing, melodic, unusual and just a moody song to listen too. Perfect for going to sleep to actually!

3. Hands- by Jewel
Oooh, beautiful voice, gorgeous song, emotional, strong but gentle, about love, and whats really important, with sweet, innocent but wise lyrics.

'If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear

chorus; My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken

Poverty stole your golden shoes
But it didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after

We'll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
'Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing

Chorus
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray

Chorusx2
We are never broken

We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's mind
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's heart
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's eyes
We are God's hands

4. Cornflake Girl- by Tori Amos
Just an incredible song, very passionate and I love the Piano in it. Love her stuff.

5. You Oughtta Know- by Alanis Morrisette
A great, angry song for anyone who is in the 'emotionally-tortured-dumped-state!!!'

6. One Hand in My Pocket- ^
Brilliant song for Geminis by a Gemini!!! The lyrics are brilliant, and the song is great and funny too. http://www.123lyrics.net/a/alanis-morissette/hand-in-my-pocket.html

7. Mollys Chambers- Kings of Leon
Cool band, and a great fast song, always makes me smile and feel happy. (Weird title though, huh...!!??)

Hmmmm, I cant think of anymore at the mo (Im sure Ill add more soon!!) but cant wait to hear everyone elses favourites and thoughts on them.... SS

Whee!

Right now I'm loving 'Wish You Were Here' by Pink Floyd. It has a terrific sound, and the lyrics are trademark of Pink Floyd, course, very interesting.

A little more on the poppy-ballad side, one of my guilty pleasures- 'Maybe I'm Amazed' by Paul McCarteney- it's so corny, but .

Aaaand, I just bought The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour, incredible, really incredible. My favorite track from it is probably I Am The Walrus- don't think I have to explain myself, you probably all know it =). I like Blue Jay Way a lot too for some reason.

Yep, some of the songs that I've been listening to a lot in the past week.

Ooooh, Sun_scorpion I adore almost everything Radiohead does

Another group I love is Coldplay, easily my favourite track is Shiver... If I hear it once, I can't just hear it once, I play it again and again and again... I love everything they do, but Shiver for some reason is so special to me. It strikes a chord.

Any song by Stevie Wonder. Someones I question if that man is truly of this earth, his music is so beautiful and heartfelt. My mother used to sing "you are the sunshine of my life" to me when I was little, so that song is extra special to me in particular.

A house track that is easily a recent classic is Kings of Tomorrow's Finally... The lyrics are so beautiful and dreamy, I feel like I'm in heaven with the beat and the vocals, especially in a club... If this song plays in a club you can almost feel everyone on the dancefloor levitate in ecstacy (sometimes literally, hahaha)... I switched my ex-husband onto house and I remember the first time he heard it at a club, he was gushing later "omg!! the whole vibe changed! everyone was floating away singing along! ppl looked emotional! it felt like a dream!"... It's a great song, really. To me, it's magical even. I love it.

Time marches on never ending,
time keeps its own time,
Here we stand at beginning,
and then goes passing us by,
And I, I, I can dream for us all,
I hope I'm in a better state,
When here and now crumbles and falls
and you, you , you who make worlds collide
I knew you'd come knocking one day,
unannounced like a thief in the night.

Where do we go from here,
time ain't nothing but time,
I now have no fear of my fears
And no more tears to cry,
tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow means nothing at all
If we don't hear the line,
when today places its call, and morning, morning, morning
Won't ever be the same,
now I won't make the same mistakes, time and time again (5x)

Chorus
So tell me how do you do
Finally I meet you
You don't know what I've been through,
waiting and wondering about you
I had a dream my trip would end at you,
and now I know paradise.

There's a few, but the recent ones that I'll never turn the dial from:

Clocks, Coldplay
Just a haunting song. I saw them play it live at the HFS Nutcracker in DC a couple of years back - I've never seen anyone so passionately attack a piano as he did.

All At Sea, Jamie Cullum
The lyrics seem incredibly Piscean/Neptunian, and the song itself is gorgeous, too:

I’m all at sea
Where no one can bother me
Forgot my roots
If only for a day
Just me and my thoughts
Sitting far away

Like a warm drink it seeps into my soul
Please just leave me right here on my own
Later on you could spend some time with me
If you want to, all at sea

I’m all at sea
Where no-one can bother me
I sleep by myself
I drink on my own
I don’t speak to nobody
I gave away my phone

Like a warm drink it seeps into my soul
Please just leave me right here on my own
Later on you could spend some time with me
If you want to, all at sea

Now I need you more than ever
I need you more than ever now

If you don’t need it every day
But sometimes don’t you just crave
To disappear within your mind
You never know what you might find
So come and spend some time with me
And we will spend it all at sea

Like a warm drink it seeps into my soul
Please just leave me right here on my own
Later on you could spend some time with me
If you want to, all at sea

Ooooh
If you want to, all at sea
If you want to

I love the song "Smooth" performed by Rob Thomas and Carlos Santana. The lyrics are sensual, and emotive of a guy whipped by a girl. Oh the things men do when they're enchanted by a lady . . .

The music video can be accessed at www.launchcast.yahoo.com.

Carlos Santana
Smooth
1999

Man it's a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
I hear you whisper & the words melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My mu-equita, my Spanish harlem mona lisa
Your my reason for reason
The step in my groove

{Bridge:}
And if you say this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Cause you're so smooth

{Chorus:}
And just like the ocean under the moon
Well that's the same emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin that can be so smooth
Gimme your heart, make it real
Or else forget about it

I'll tell you one thing
If you would leave it would be a crying shame
In every breath and every word I hear your name calling me out
Out from the barrio, you hear my rhythm from your radio
You feel the turning of the world so soft and slow
Turning you round and round

I love, and I mean I absolutely LOVE music...cannot imagine my life without it. So there are a million+ songs that I love and it would take me forever to name even a fourth of them. But one song that I always thought was so beautiful is 'Long, Long, Long' by The Beatles. Maybe because I can relate to the feelings in the lyrics, it always makes me tear up:

It's been a long long long time,
How could I ever have lost you
When I loved you.
It took a long long long time
Now I'm so happy I found you
How I love you
So many tears I was searching,
So many tears I was wasting, oh. Oh--
Now I can see you, be you
How can I ever misplace you
How I want you
Oh I love you
Your know that I need you.
Ooh I love you.

It's really a George Harrison song through & through although it's officially counted as a Beatles song. I always though he was writing about his then-wife Patti Boyd. But it turns out that he was actually singing about God.

There are so many songs I really love that I can't think of them right now. Any music snobs will have to forgive me because I don't get very obscure with my musical selections.

But I love anything by Beck, especially the newer stuff. He has a song that I think is gorgeous called "Beautiful Way."

Another song I really love is "Aqueous Transmission" by Incubus. Both of these songs are kind of melancholy with a silver lining...sort of resonates with me.

As far as classics go (not classical, mind you) I'm not much into oldies but I love Ben E. King's "Stand by Me." Beautiful.

This is fun. I love songs!

So many songs to choose from but at the moment I love 'Biggest Lie' by the late, great Elliott Smith, it sounds so pure and sweet and he was, I feel, a true artist (I thought this before his tragic death).

'Song to the Siren' and 'Dolphins' by another late, great - Tim Buckley, those songs are so ethereal and romantic

Im your Toy and Wild Horses by Gram Parsons
just because that man has such a sexy voice.
(Actually, Im beginning to see a pattern forming here!).

100 ways to be a good girl by Skunk Anansie, just cos I LOVE Skin's voice, shes such a rock chick and is so down to earth with it.

Jezebel and Noah's Dove by Natalie Merchant, because along with Patti Smith shes SUCH a goddess.

and finally 'Smells like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana because of its anarchic energy.

Also Bittersweet Symphony by Verve (thanx Ghanima 4 remining me of them lol!!)
Ooh, and just remembered my one classical indulgence that I adore; A Kaleidoscope of Mathematics, by James Horner featuring Charlotte Church, which was written for 'A Beautiful Mind'. I love this because of the way it starts off with a high, clear, young womans voice which climbs and soars into beautiful, magical music! (Hehe, my Grandma WILL be proud!!)

Love this song...lyrics and all
Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony that's life...
Try to make ends meet , you're a slave to the money then you die.
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down...
You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah.

No change, I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould.
But I'm a million different people from one day to the next...
I can't change my mould , no,no,no,no,no,no,no

Well I've never prayed,
But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognise the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind , I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now.

No change, I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no

Have you ever been down?
I can change, I can change...

Cause it's a bittersweet symphony this life.
Trying to make ends meet, try to find somebody then you die.
You know I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould, I am here in my mould.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next.
I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no

We've got ya sex and violence melody and silence
(Have you ever been down)
(I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down)

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down

I can't change my mold
no, no, no, no, no,
I can't change
Can't change my body,
no, no, no

I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down

The world is full of great songs. The list would be endless. But some things from my present playlist...

REM "The one I love"

This one goes out to the one I love
This one goes out to the one I've left behind

Sadness and sense of responsibility.. sort of mixed together.

Pink Floyd
"Wish you were here"
I really miss a friend who moved to another country. So it is just right to the mark

Nick Drake "Time has told me"

Time has told me
You're a rare rare find
A troubled cure
For a troubled mind.

And time has told me
Not to ask for more
Someday our ocean
Will find its shore.

...

I love Drake. That softness of music (think whipped cream & strawberries) and those haunting spare lyrics...

My current favorite song is "Its My Life" by The Animals. I like it because its a little dark compared to the happy go lucky, upbeat music that was popular in the British Invasion period.

I also like "Time of The Season" by the Zombies for pretty much the same reason why I like The Animals song. Also Time of the Season is a great song celebrating the beauty of women.

"Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan because that song is just so true. Its him singing to a girl who used to be rich and always made fun of people who werent as well off as her, and then suddenly she loses everything she has...and he is asking her how does it feel.

"Alone" by Heart. I love this song because Im sure most people have felt the pain of being in love with someone but not being able to tell that person how you feel about them.

Ahh, so many beautiful songs...some are haunting and melencholy, others just hit you with that "YEAH. That's the truth" feeling, and then there's those that just make you feel like grooving mindlessly.

A few that strike a chord in me...

~~~~~~~Wicked Game - Chris Isaak~~~~~~~~~
I'm so moved by how he captures the vulnerability that comes with being so enchanted with someone who you feel is out of your league, but you manage to get close to, if only briefly...The first time I heard that song, I thought "that song was written by a Cancer" - which I found out later to be true. Sung by a Cancer too - the same one who wrote it. It just stirs my soul every time, that song. LUV LUV LUV Chris Isaac.
~~~~~~~~~Kiss Me ~ Six-Pence, None the Richer~~~~~~~~
Captures the essence of love with an innocence and bouyancy of the soul that almost chokes me up. (I actually did get choked up the first few times I heard that song, but of course the radio stations overplayed it, and I got use to it)

~~~~~~~~~Adam's Rib ~ Melanie Doan~~~~~~~~
Just love the unique spin of this song, and the summarizing of how being female means breaking away from being a little peice of a bigger being, ie, Man, and how we're still trying to be our own persons milleniums later.
~~~~~~~~~Heya ~ Out Cast~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Just a funky, groovy song, makes you want wiggle and sing along.

Just a few that come to mind off the cuff.

Any song by Sade. Also Van Morrison.....so many more...

Your Love Is King ~ Sade

Your love is king,
crown you in my heart.
Your love is king,
never need to part.
Your kisses ring,
round and round and round my head.
Touching the very part of me.
It's making my soul sing.
Tearing the very heart of me.
I'm crying out for more.

Your love is king,
crown you in my heart.
Your love is king.
You're the ruler of my heart.
Your kisses ring,
round and round and round my head.
Touching the very part of me.
It's making my soul sing.
I'm crying out for more.
Your love is king.

I'm coming up, I'm coming.
You're making me dance, inside.

Your love is king,
crown you in my heart.
Your love is king,
never need to part.
Your kisses ring,
round and round and round my head.
Touching the very part of me.
It's making my soul sing.
Tearing the very heart of me.
I'm crying out for more.

Touching the very part of me.
It's making my soul sing.
I'm crying out for more.
Your love is king.

This is no blind faith
This is no sad and sorry dream.
This is no blind faith
Your love...
your love is real... gotta crown me with your heart,
never, never need to part,
touch me.
Never letting go,
never letting go,
never going to give it up.
I'm coming,
you're making me dance...

Oooohh... I thought of some more!

Wild Horses by The Sundays... such a beautiful song.

Linger - The Cranberries... It can move me to tears, honestly...

If You Don't Know Me By Now - Teddy Pendergrass... Another tear jerker, I can't listen to the lyrics too closely without being moved.

Ain't No Way - Aretha Franklin... Ain't no way... For me to looove you... If you won't, let me... Possibly one of my favourite love songs ever.

Someone Saved My Life Tonight - Elton John, this one is magical.

Never Tear Us Apart - INXS this played on the radio in Sydney all week when Michael Hutchence died... One of my all time favourites, but it's forever associated with his death to me now.

Ooooohhh, yes, and Ryan Adams (yes thats Ryan, not Bryan lolol!!!) version of Wonderwall, so soft, beautiful and ethereal... I love this song, and his version is just perfect. Great voice to.
First heard it on one of the OC series and was enraptured.
And yet another fave band, REM, with Low, which is about moods and feeling low and unhappy in a relationship.

Another song that I think is beautiful and which has a special meaning for me is 'The Rain Song' by Led Zeppelin:

This is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes.
It is to you I give this tune.
Ain't so hard to recognize - These things are clear to all from time to time.

Talk Talk - I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go.
I cursed the gloom that set upon us...
But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion - I see the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient - Upon us all a little rain must fall.

Yes, I love Tori Amos too.
I just learned "A Sorta' Fairytale" *memorized it*
Also listening to Led Zeppelin today too....
Tori does a remake of "Thank You" By the Zep, and it is sooooo beautiful.

"If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you... Mountains crumbled to the sea, there would still be you and me.. Kind woman I give you my all, kind woman, nothing more........."
