Are you one of those people who as soon as you get into a store and they start playing the tinny carols we've heard a godzillion times want to run into a closet with your hands over your ears?Or does it bring back warm + fuzzy memories of childhood, ripe with promise + magick? I have mixed feelings in this regard, certainly they overdo it, starting way too early in a total bombardment. Some are better than others, and even the ones I like I grow to hate by the end of the season. But this should be the season of music - celebrating winter solstice we all need that in our lives. Any top pix of some that might be fresh + uplifting this dreary time of year? ~~~~~~~~~~~Happy Holidays to all~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IP: Logged |

I tend to really like x-mas music, except for the really new rock covers...I just don't want to have to hear bands like U2 covering x-mas songs! Although, bands like that writing their own songs about x-mas are fine...hmmmIP: Logged |

I think the name of the John Lennon song is "Happy Christmas (War is Over)". Melissa Etheridge did a cover of it a few years back, so if you don't want to hear Yoko Ono screeching in the background, that's the one to get. I agree with VTT, modern bands covering Xmas tunes are generally horrific. Give me Johnny Mathis anyday. And I do like some religious ones, although I'm not Christian. But that's not a pre requisite to like it, is it? No one gave me a handbook. IP: Logged |

I know Yoko can be annoying but its his energy, how he was left us too soon (like Linda?) and the message.... of looking back....IP: Logged |

You are all gonna laugh...The only Xmas song I can really stand is "Do They Know its Christmas" by Band Aid. I was a HUGE Duran Duran freak back in the day (and i am just terribly envious of BLoodRedMoon too!!) I had to play waaaaay too many carols in band as a teen. I am still burned out. Handels Messiah still gives me shivers tho. MK IP: Logged |

Yes!! Prox, I adore that song... it's so lovely and moving... there's just something about it, especially acapella. MK, I like that song, too. Have you heard the new version? It's not bad... Bono was pretty ****** he didn't get to sing the lead in, but Chris Martin (Coldplay) does a pretty good job. My faves would have to be ''Rockin around the X-Mas Tree'' and a lot of the songs on my mum's Very Special Christmas Vol. 3... some cool tunes on there. OHHH! And ''Baby, It's Cold Outside'' is quite nice. Gotta say the all time best movie for X-Mas is ''White Christmas'' with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney. Just thinking about it is making me all nostalgic Happy Christmas/ Kwanza/ Chaunnaka everyone!! and Ghani IP: Logged |

I really love choral arrangements of Christmas music ... probably because I spent 7 years of my life in choir singing them. I really don't like any modern covers of songs unless it's someone like Charlotte Church or Sarah Brightman, etc. The most "modern" Christmas songs I like are ... anything sung by Bing Crosby, such as "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire ...), and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" sung by Judy Garland (From Meet Me in St. Louis).------------------ "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Ghandi IP: Logged |

Eh, I don't really care for X-mas much. Sure I like the cookies and stuff, but for me it's just really depressing cos it was never a huge part of my family life. Anyone hear the song "I Won't be Home For Christmas" by Blink-182? It's kind of a funny, pessimistic view on the holidays. My favorite line is "You people scare me/please stay away from my home/if you don't wanna get me down/just leave the presents and then leave me alone" Hehe, sorry, I just love that song. IP: Logged |
