Well, according to their website, there is a pending class-action lawsuit regarding improper late-fees, so if you rented from them and were charged late-fees or replacement fees, or stuff like that(read the site for more details), you might be elgigible for free rental coupons (buy one-get one free) by submitting a claim...

Here's the site for further reading : http://www.hollywoodvideo.com/arc/default.aspx

That's the only place I ever go! My best friend works there - hmm, maybe I could get some coupons...

WOW! Thanks for posting this because we used to rent from them, until they told us we didn't return an XboX game that we put in the drop box! They were HORRIBLE about it, and I figured that someone who worked there, stole it, and then said we didn't return it...so who knows what kind of fees are on our account because of it...we just walked out after refusing to pay it...THANKS!

Oh, AWESOME. One opened up near me a couple of months ago and they had that 99 cent special for a long time, so I was renting a lot of stuff from there- the last movies that I turned back in were late, so I'll look into that .

Just a word of warning, the late-fees and stuff have to be before the lawsuit was filed, around mid or late August '04.....

I don't use Hollywood Video. I used to use Netflix, but since Blockbuster's been having a little price war with Netflix (and they no longer have late fees), I switched.

Here's an interesting bit of news:

Blockbuster May Launch Hostile Bid for Hollywood
Tue Dec 28, 2004 12:16 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Blockbuster Inc., the No. 1 U.S. video rental chain, on Tuesday threatened to launch a $1 billion hostile bid for Hollywood Entertainment Corp. if its smaller rival decides to stick with a previous offer from a buyout firm.
Dallas-based Blockbuster said it would launch a tender offer for Hollywood at $11.50 a share by mid-January if Hollywood rejects its pleas to consider friendly talks to counter a previous $10.25-a-share agreed bid by Leonard Green & Partners LP.

Blockbuster also said it would consider raising its $11.50 a share bid if Hollywood cooperates and discloses financial information to help Blockbuster value the company.

Blockbuster didn't win yet... but the did buy up a bunch of public shares. Seems they're playin' hard ball.

Hollywood's goin' down

How can they possibly stay in business now? I don't know anyone that rents from them, or that will now that there's Netflix and Blockbuster.
