Hi Proxie: I was wonder where you live in southern bama. My Mama lives in Spanish fort near Mobile. As for 610, it is a mess. The have built on every scrap of dirt they could. and now they are tearing down old stuff to build new stuff. IP: Logged |

I live in the Eastern part - Fort Rucker, near Dothan (that's the biggest "city" around); about an hour and a half north of Panama City or South of Montgomery. I can ask my husband if he knows where Spanish Fort is - he's down in Mobile for funerals quite a bit.I grew up in the Rockhill area of Stafford (back where they're still not touching 610...at least not the last time I was up :/ My Mom was fortunate enough for her property to be classed in the new zip code (I forgot what it is; it used to be 22554) - the part that's going to (hopefully) stay low density out near Fauquier (my bus route used to actually veer into that county). And 610 is a godawful mess. I hate to sound like a rural snob, but I sorely miss the old fields. I'd trade the new shopping centers, HumVees, and yuppies for them any day. IP: Logged |

I live in Vista Woods. Very close to Rockhill area. Right off 610. My Son use to run with Rockhill Rescue Squad. Let me know when you are in the area, it would be fun to meet you. Why does you Husband go to lots of funerals, if you don't mine me asking. IP: Logged |

Ah, right now he's doing "funeral detail" for this area - he's one of the soldiers in a vet, retiree, or active duty soldier's funeral. There are a lot of vets and retirees down here; I attribute it to the warm weather and low cost of living. Heck, when I was growing up a lot of my friends were in Vista Woods, that or Lake Arrowhead. I bet if I told you the road that my Mom lives off of, you might know it (hint: it's a dirt road off of a road off of Rockhill; we were close enough to take a long walk to Stern's Store @ the intersection of Mountain View and Poplar before it closed down). I should be up sometime soonish - the Grandparents are requesting a visit with their soon-to-be one-year-old granddaughter. Much of the fam's in Fairfax now, but my Mom's still in her old place off of a dirt lane. It would be good to meet ya IP: Logged |

You say low cost of living??? Please do tell. What's a two bedroom go for? No hurricane or flood zones please!IP: Logged |

All of Alabama is a hurricane and/or flood zone. Don't forget the tornados. Wheee! It gets a little less extreme up north near Tennessee, but the cost of living's a bit higher up there, too, at least around Huntsville. Down here, though, with the hurricanes, floods, and tornados, an expensive two-bedroom goes for less than $450. IP: Logged |
