A friend and I were in a new age store in Erie Pennsylvania. They had two singing bowls left. One was smooth and was very easy to play. The other was bumpy and not smooth. It sounded awful. Something in me said buy the ugly one, not the nice one that sounded beautiful right away. When I showed it to my beloved, he wisely observed....The nice bowl was a beginner's bowl. Your bowl is for a master who will be serious about bringing a voice to it, and the patience to do so. He was right. I have worked it smooth by making it sing. The tones it makes now are because of my patience, not the smoothing lathe of the bowl maker. It is a very good meditation tool.....Another is to put a sea shell in white vinegar, in a clear glass, and watch it dissolve. These are lessons in patience, and more. Yes...I posted this in Universal Codes, but it seemed to belong here also! IP: Logged |

Actually, I find most virtues over-rated, and prefer the vices. Much more fun. IP: Logged |

Heh Heh Heh! This is so often true! I am no saint! But I try to be so, at least spiritually. IP: Logged |

Ah well, like Billy Joel sang so long agoI'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints sinners are much more fun Only the good die young And as the symbol for Yin and Yang illustrates, both light and dark must exist in all things. Including saints. IP: Logged |

I loved your story fayte.m. If there was no evil in the world - there would be no good. IP: Logged |

contrast is needed, or how could one know the difference? These contrasts do not not need to be experienced to understand the differences. One can aquire the basics of this concept by observing. IP: Logged |

Or perhaps...contrast is needed to know the sameness. Understanding vs. aquiring the basics. Not necessarily the same thing, is it not true? I can aquire the basics of childbirth, but unless I have a child, I cannot understand. IP: Logged |

Good point---but there is no other way to experience all things, in one lifetime. So we have to be satisfied with the basics to get us through each lifetime. You are correct, one must truely experience to fully understand. But empathy works also. IP: Logged |
