I am enjoying Mariah Careys latest. I don't like hip hop but I have total respect for her voice. I've come to enjoy the music, its top quality. My step daughter and I listened to the whole Green Day CD while driving up north for the weekend. It was good too.

AMY LEE • Singer

Amy Lee is a vocalist and songwriter with the rock band Evanescence, whose debut album, Fallen (2003), was nominated for five Grammys in 2003. The band won two Grammys that year, for Best New Artist and for Best Hard Rock Performance, the latter for the hit song "Bring Me To Life," featured in the movie Daredevil (2003, starring Ben Affleck). Lee and band co-founder Ben Moody (guitarist) met at summer camp in Arkansas when they were teenagers. Although they rarely performed live, their early recordings gained a local following and in 2001 they were signed to a recording contract. John Le Compt (guitar), Rocky Gray (drums) and Will Boyd (bass) joined the band, and the success of Fallen made them overnight rock stars. Within a year, however, Moody left the band and was replaced by guitarist Terry Balsalmo. The goth-rock sound of Evanescence has been called a mix of Tori Amos-like vocals with Linkin Park-style rock.

S Star: Thanks for the info on Amy!

I heard her say once in an interview that she would love to write scores for movies.
I can JUST see her doing that... from what I've heard of their music.

I was in the mood for Edith Piaf. What a voice! I turned it full volume in my car and just couldn't get enough.
The other day my daughter put on The Black Eyed Peas. Very catchy.

I'm such an addict for two songs numbers by Black Eyed Peas. Numbers 9&10 on Monkey Business.

Jack Johnson's Song "Gone Going Gone"

Johnny wanna be a big star
Get on stage and play the guitar
Make a little money, buy a fancy car
Big old house and an alligator
Just to match with them alligator shoes
He's a rich man so he's no longer singing the blues
He's singing songs about material things
And platinum rings and watches that go bling
But, diamonds don't bling in the dark
He a star now, but he ain't singing from the heart
Sooner or later he's just gonna fall apart
Coz his fans can't relate to his new found art
He ain't doing what he did from the start
And that's ??
He decided to live his life shallow
Passion is love for material

[Chorus]
And its gone... gone... going...
Gone... everything gone... give a damn...
Gone be the birds when they don't want to sing...
Gone people... up awkward with their things... gone.

You see yourself in the mirror
And you feel safe coz it looks familiar
But you afraid to open up your soul
Coz you don't really know, don't really know
Who is, the person that's deep within
Coz you are content with just being the na¯ve brown man
And you fail to see that its trivial
Insignificant, you addicted to material
I've seen your kind before
Your the type that thinks souls is sold in a store
Packaged up with inscent sticks
With them vegetarian meals
To you that's righteous
You're fiction like books
You need to go out to life and look
Coz... what happens when they take your material
You already sold your soul and its...

[Chorus]

You say that time is money and money is time
So you got mind in your money and your money on your mind
But what about... that crime that you did to get paid
And what about... that bid, you can't take it to your brain
Why you on about those shoes you'll wear today
They'll do no good on the bridges you've walked along the way

All that money that you got gonna be gone
That gear that you rock gonna be gone
The house up on the hill gonna be gone
The gold -- on your grill gonna be gone
The ice on your wrist gonna be gone
That nice little Miss gonna be gone
That whip that you roll gonna be gone
And what's worst is your soul will be gone

[Chorus]

And number 10 by James Brown and Black Eyed Peas

Almost forgot the great Janis Joplin

"Work me Lord" - sexy is the only way to describe. I listened to her on my morning drive to work today.

Also, can't forget my stand-bys

Neil Young

The Allman Bros.

Ok, here are a couple recent discoveries.

One is The Michetons: http://www.myspace.com/themichetons
I went with some friends to watch a friend of my best friend's wife play (American Radio). That band wasn't great, but the Michetons made it worth the trip. They were really great live. They have an Aries lead singer. The show was the 14th, and I think his birthday was supposed to be the Monday a couple days later.

The other discovery I just made is PB&J aka Peter Bjorn and John from Sweden. (Yes, I think there band name should be punctuated, too ) Awesome fuzzy, rainy day music.

I lucked out with this one. I'm on the list for my local radio stations regular surveys, and PB&J's song "Young Folk" was one of the songs I had to review. I'd only heard it once on the radio, but I loved it. I was very happy to learn their name.

If you go to their MySpace page, and it makes you listen to "Girl Talkremix" first, you may want to skip that one, and listen to the others to get a better feel for their music. Or even better, go here.

This guy Peter from the aforementioned PB&J has some good taste in music. I just found another cool band at his recommendation:

Camera Obscura

Female vocals. Love the Country Mile song. It's such a pretty song.

Since ast summer I have been going through childhood/family issues and Jo Dee's song hits the nail on the head with me
