AG, have you ever heard of eggstone? Pure Swedish goodness, that group is... One of the best ever! I think over here they are mainly known for being the primary influence on the sound of the Cardigans. They operate Tambourine Studios, where quite a lot of good bands record. The 3 band members also do session and production work. "Against the Sun" is in my list of all-time great songs.Oh, I'm currently listening to new Bjork, new Interpol, and old Faint stuff. Nope, not until now. Will look them up later. quote: Oh, I'm currently listening to new Bjork, new Interpol, and old Faint stuff.
Oooh! How's the new Interpol? I've got the first two albums. I LOVE the first album. The second is just OK. IP: Logged |

SPIEGEL: How come you´re pushing other musicians careers and present almost unknown artists at the Meltdown festival in London under the motto "Outside Music"? Bowie: I`m fascinated by many of the artists who perform there - especially because the regular Rock´n´Roll audience could hardly bear watching them. For example a guy called Daniel Johnston, who is a folk legend within certain circles, and who had severe psychological problems. Since the beginning of the 80ies he´s been writing beautiful songs with very touching lyrics. He recorded his songs at his parents house and his guitar and piano playing was rather bad. Afterwards he went to a shop and bartered his tapes for comics. That's how his recordings started circulating and he got a bit famous in Austin/Texas. He´s still living with his parents now. SPIEGEL: Why are you so interested in this type of hopeless outsider? Bowie: I hate mainstream. Its mediocrity and calculability make me sick. A man like Daniel Johnston records just for himself. It´s this almost primitive integrity which makes his work so unique and authentic. It reminds me of aspects that made me love art in the first place.

AG - I only have three new songs, so not really enough to have a valid opinion of the new CD. I will say that I love "Pioneer to the Falls," and it could easily fit on TOTBL. "Mammoth" is okay, and I could live without "The Heinrich Maneuver." TOTBL was an instant love & Antics took months for me to decide which songs I love and which are "meh" for me. OLTA could go either way. I just hope the move from Matador to Capitol has zero effect on the music - big labels just want too much control over the product, but I can't see the Interpol guys making concessions. HSC - Johnston is a bit weirdly mainstream nowdays. Credit should go to Cobain for that. Johnston makes music for no reason other than music, and Cobain connnected to that because like attracts like. Too few musicians are like them. Outsider CDs are like the answer to "What would you play if no one else were listening?" Good for Bowie for promoting those people. IP: Logged |

I'm so glad you finally replied. I'll be interested in hearing the new Interpol. Antics never really drew me in. If I feel like listening to them I always reach for Turn On The Bright Lights.I'm listening to Eggstone right now on MySpace. The second song doesn't bare much resemblance to the first song. It's pleasant and professional. I could see myself owning it, but not listening to it much to be honest. IP: Logged |

It didn't occur to me that eggstone would be on myspace... But I just looked and someone set it up for them. The first song is greatness, but I don't know why they selected the other two. "Have You Seen Mary" is the one song on the first CD that I always skip! Anyhoo, they are fantabulous to listen to on the first day of summer-weather when it peaks over 70-degrees while driving with the top down. Now that I think about it, I really got into eggstone during the years that I owned a convertible... IP: Logged |

Like your new signature, Sattvic edited to add: unfortunately what I am listening to right now is the noise of the cottonwood tree in my backyard being cut down and removed. IP: Logged |
