Hi Everybody!
Sorry I've been so neglectful of visiting Lindaland. I should be atleast alittle more present seeing as how we've finally gotten the internet at our house. It's a freakin miracle, I swear. I can hardly express in words how happy I am to finally have a method to communicate with the World-Outside-Of-Alaska. Not a moment too soon either.. The days of four hours of sunshine and 40 degrees below zero were starting to wear on me for awhile there. We've finally made it to about 7 and a half hours of sun and it's warmed up to 0 F and our computer is now up and running so I think I'm going to dash outside for a tee-shirt happy dance in the sun.

Whew! Talk about invigorating...
Okay, I have to admit,
getting through the darkness and cold was actually pretty easy since I had such a cute little bundle of sweetness to cuddle with all the time. Azalea is growing way to fast in my opinion. She's already sprouting three teeth! They are on the bottom and all coming in at the same time. She is amazing. It doesn't even seem to be fazing her- she's virtually always a little giggly bundle of happiness. It helps that Quinn is such an entertaining big brother to have around. He's mastered the art the "funny dance" which never fails to elicit gales of laughter from his little sister.
Right now I"m all over the place, looking up patterns for cloth diaper making (my latest obsession), checking out the latest headlines, checking up on friends and email lists so I'll just leave you all with some pics I finally got uploaded.
I'll be back!

p.s. hhhmmmm..I'm only posting a couple pics until I figure out how to resize them alittle smaller..

Hey you happy mama!

You have absolutely beautiful children!

I'm glad you are able to communicate with us folks outside of Alaska too!

Is it hard to deal with only 4 hours of sunshine a day? Does it make you miss the 9 months of rain down here?

We got to see some blue sky yesterday... for most of the day, in fact. The weather guys are saying we may even have a full week with no rain this coming week... if you can believe that!! I don't know if I believe it... we shall see.

So... cloth diaper patterns, eh? You're such a good mama!

Thanks for the love, all!

LibraSparkle, YES.. I actually do miss the rain.. during the hours of darkness here. However..during the brief daylight I really appreciate being here. The beauty of this land is truly unsurpassed by any other place I have seen. When it's -40 and clear and sunny, there is a layer of frost over everything that just sparkles. There's something really magical about the still, white crispness of everything and when the conditions are right, we get beautiful sundogs. My fantasy is to have a double life.. a home in Cascadia and a home in Alaska. Someday... *sigh*

Salome, I would love some cloth diaper patterns! You can email me at harpyr@linda-goodman.com
I have to admit that I'm not the "perfect" earth mama..(who is?)
I stil use 'sposies at night just cause my sleep is so valuable to me and I haven't figured out how to get a cloth one to keep the moisture away from her bottom for 6-8 hours but I'm going to toy with a few ideas for liners still and hopefully be 100% cloth before too long. I'm really having great fun making them.

I got some more pictures to share!

Here's us at the birthing center a few hours after Azalea was born-

These are around 6-8 weeks old...

She's almost five months old now.. I've got to get some recent ones uploaded. She's alot chunkier now.

Yang- We picked the name Azalea after we heard a Duke Ellington song by the same name. The verson we heard was performed with Miles Davis and it's just a beautiful song. We agreed that it's a special thing for a child to have a song with their name in it. I'm also big on names from nature so it worked in that regard too. And the icing on the cake, so to speak, was the fact that there is an Alaskan azalea flower.

I also like names with the letter z in them.

HI paras!

So sorry it took me so long to check back to this thread!

Long time no see.. I hope you are doing well.
I haven't been up to much.. just being a mommy, generally. Settling back into life waaay up here in the last frontier. It's weird, to say the least. I am definetly the oddball in this uber-right wing place, that's for sure. I get lots of looks drivin my subaru around with all the bumper stickers that say stuff like-
"Get Corporations Off Welfare!"
"Unpatented Life Form on Board"
"Tree-hugging Dirt Worshipper"
"I haven't been the same since that house fell on my sister"
"Today's mighty oak tree is just yesterday's nut"
"Our factories are all overseas, all we produce here are rich executives"
and so forth.
I'm sorta a bumpersticker junkie..

anyhoo,
I've been itchin to get back into activism lately and I think I've found an area I want to delve into- Ending medicaid funding for Routine Infant Circumcision here in Alaska. I started researching info to print up for my expectant sister-in-law to try and convince her to leave her son intact. (they just found out the sex)
As a result of my studies I've been transformed into a passionate intactivist.
Seventeen states have already stopped paying for RIC so I think the tides of change are sweeping across the land and I'd be happy if I could have a hand in helping in that. Here's a link if anyone is interested- http://www.icgi.org./

I'm also reading a book called 'Evidence of Harm' by David Kirby. It's about the issue of mercury in vaccines. I can't recommend this book enough if people want the lowdown on what went down on that front. Just prepare to be outraged.

K.. I'm gonna go out on a limb and share the address for my blog. I just started it last month..
I'm feelin kinda exposed but what the heck..
http://harpyr.livejournal.com/

So there I am, if people want to see what I'm up to..
Later!

K, don't know if anybody is reading this and checking out my blog but if you are and you notice that lindaland isn't in the links list, don't think I forgot about this wonderful place when I listed those..
It's just that this place has been my secret sanctuary from the real world during some difficult times and I'd just rather people I know in real life not find my hideout....
