So I recently conversed with an elderly hindu gentleman whom asked me if my "third eye" was open. I replied "well, it was at one point" and at that, he became so ecstatic repeating "I knew it! I knew it!".

He told me that when things get tough, to use the affirmation "I am enough" and that I need to go back to the place I went in my childhood that made me feel safe. I thought it was humorous, seeing that I grew up with a family of emotionally abusive drug addicts and probably never felt safe at any moment at the time. He then told me that there was a place that I visited in my mind that made me feel safe and that I should go back.

At that I would just like to know what place made you guys feel safe as a child. Did you go back? Will you go back? Was it real? Was it imaginary?
What do you think of the affirmation "I am enough"? What do you think that means?Do you think you're enough?

The more I think I know, the more I know nothing at all.

I gave it exactly two point seven seconds of thought.
My Cottage.
My grandfather built a log cabin and a man made pond, it has a spring, no plumbing or ammenities but a maple shack and a woodstove.
We'd collect water at the spring and cook anything imaginable in the 'sugarshack'. He made runny maple syrup from the trees there.
He made a huge alluminum picnic table for our big family. He made everything.
Including a trampline made of such an elastic rubber that you can't even get it anymore ( probably bad for the environment when I really think about it- but thats my adult mind reasoning) and sturdy springs and a metal base. It was about twellve feet long and seven wide.
I'd lay on it, face up, swaying gently as the sound of crickets chirping was music to my ears, the breeze gentle and the sun hot on my skin and I'd see the sun through my closed eyelids, orange and comforting and the scent of the woods surrounding me and sometimes voices of my family. The firm sturdy surface of the trampoline holding me like a hammock.
Thats my place.

Hi leoelf!

My safe place has always been in my head. While being alone, usually outside somewhere or in my room.

I think that, "I am enough" is a great affirmation. We are truly all we need. Everything else is what we make it. From the inside, comes the out.

I have no safe place. Nowhere is safe from my perturbing mind roaming through all the possibilites of things that could jump out at me at any moment.
The only time I feel safe is when I'm with other people or in broad daylight.

God, I sound paranoid!

I love the "I'm enough" affirmation. I have to remember to use it.
As a child I felt safe everywhere, but the best place was my grandmother's house. I was loved unconditionally there and she always had sweets and little gifts for me in her huge purse

As a child one of my safest places was sitting on the top of our stairs, strumming my guitar......I felt calm and serene.....

The other one was and still is, at times, in the deepest place of my heart.....where all I can feel is warmth and love.....i still go there every day....it feels wonderful

"Im enough" is a great affirmation isnt it, along with "I am powerful" "I love" and "I am loved".............

Was my grandparents house. I cant go there anymore but i have since moved to the town they lived in and where i always holidayed and i often walk passed their old place.

Even though lots of really strange, scary things have happened to me since i moved here i still feel more at peace and safe than anywhere else.

M,

My safe place is the garden or outside doing work...take off the shoes and cut the grass and just think abou things. I was up in Park City utah Last weekend and I was looking at the serenity of the hills and fall colors and I just thought of walking a long time ago and throwing seeds on the earths floor and watching them grow. Nature is so wonderful Marcia....maybe you and the little Elf should go upstate or something and just breath new air.

I AM ENOUGH
FOR MYSELF

Oh the days are long
'Til the baby comes
God will take all fear
If you say this clear

I am enough
for myself

I don't need anything else

I am enough
for myself

I am in your heart
I only can have that part
I am in your dreams
I only can touch these things
I am who gives the breath
I am your nakedness
I am nothing at all
And I am singing your soul

I am that I am
I am that I am
I am that I am

I am enough
for myself

As a child I use to spend alot of time alone. Since we moved so much, my safe place was also in my imagination. I was "Queen of all the Animals" Until i was about 4. lol! My other safe place is with my darling mother. She has been my life long, dearest friend. All ways, my safe place.

LoL, when I was eight, on Saturdays, I'd have my breakfast, watch my Saturdays morning cartoons, then, I'd tape my "radio show" for an hour or two. Have a snack and eventually lie down, get under the blankets and turn the television back on, it would either be golf on NBC or The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross on PBS that would calm me and give me this sense of safety and serenity, until I took a nap.

My safe place as a child was inside the covers of whatever book I was reading at the time. Whether it was "Treasure Island," "Tom Sawyer," "Ann of Green Gables," you name it, it was my refuge and my solace from all my inner turmoil and the confinement and craziness of childhood. I so wanted my life to be an adventure! Whereas it was sooo boring and protected... I think I would have gladly put up with being an orphan in a Dickens novel just to get out of the protected bubble I was living in... And I never really lost the yearning for lives I can never know. Sometimes I think about the infinite possibilities of life, a different turn here, going this road there, and you end up with a completely different set of circumstances... A shame that we can only have one life at a time instead of several different ones simultaneously, and just step out of one and into another like peaking in on different shows at a movie theater...

Awwwwwwwwww.. Tink, thanks for that.
Seriously, a brilliant mind.
One of a kind, and if you asked him, he'd tell you.
It wasnt until the last year or so of his life, that he stopped answering an inquiring "How are you?" with "Perfect."
I am so happy and proud to say that he was my grandpa.
*sniff*

leoelf, where did you go?
thank you for this post.
i am enough...
what a lovely thing for you to share.

when i need a safe place,
i go to the countryside....
where my grandmother lived.
i walk amongst the rocks and
mesquite trees, in the dry hot sun,
following the path of cattle and
horses

viewing the outstretched,
undulating land, alternating rocky
plateaus and brushy green valleys...
washed in immense sun and blue sky.

thank you for that meditation....
assisting me in my journey.

wishing you love and light in yours
happiness for you and babes in your
gentle mothercare.

love, Hedgewitch
