Oh come on, what poet sits there and calculates out how many hours there are in a year? It offends my artistic/emotional sensibilities. Love songs shouldn't include numbers or allude to math in my book. Entertainment should give us heart. Screw logic! IP: Logged |

Have you read the lyrics????Pardon me while I shove this down your throat, dear! Seasons Of Love Lyrics COMPANY 525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear. 525,600 minutes - how do you measure, measure a year? In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee. In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife. In 525,600 minutes - how do you measure a year in the life? How about love? How about love? How about love? Measure in love. Seasons of love. SOLOIST 1 525,600 minutes! 525,000 journeys to plan. 525,600 minutes - how can you measure the life of a woman or man? SOLOIST 2 In truths that she learned, or in times that he cried. In bridges he burned, or the way that she died. COMPANY It's time now to sing out, tho the story never ends let's celebrate remember a year in the life of friends. Remember the love! Remember the love! Remember the love! Measure in love. Seasons of love! Seasons of love. ********************************************** See...you don't have to fight it! The song already agrees with you that logic should be screwed! Seriously... don't make me stop this car and pull out more lyrics! IP: Logged |

But are you making my point? It's like that Blue Oyster Cult song. Big numbers in songs just don't belong. There's 11 syllables in just the number. I bet you can find plenty of songs that say more than merely a number with 11 syllables. Like: quote: And she's buying a stairway to heaven (10)
or: quote: Imagine all the people living for today...(12)
or quote: Fade into you Strange you never knew (9)

Agggggggggh... YOU CAN'T USE MAZZY AGAINST ME! That's just dirty! I just read a really yucky review of the movie. I'm lying. Someone read it to me over the phone, so I can't direct you to it. msn.com maybe? Anyway, the reviewer referred to the lyrics of the songs as "banal." I can't argue with that. I can give you ten reasons why the show, both onstage and on the big screen, is pretty weak. But there's something there if someone wants to dig for it... there is an essence, a spirit behind it that catches up with you once you've listened to the soundtrack enough! It's not a show that you can take at face value and expect to experience the rewards. One certainly has to employ the "willing suspense of disbelief," but doing so is worth it. I'm not trying to convince you. I don't even mind that you're not a fan. There's just something about this show that really moves me. I appreciate that you're humoring me in this discussion. I love your brain! (It's a cappy thing. I adore cappies!) IP: Logged |

LOL Awwww...you love my for my brain, how romantic. I love your brain too...even if it does like musicals. One thing I don't get is: Why can South Park and The Simpsons do great musical numbers, and most mainstream musicals just suck @ss? Oh, and what about The Nightmare before Christmas? IP: Logged |

I've never seen the Nightmare Before Christmas. (Shhh... don't tell anyone!)Actually, I don't like musicals in general. I only like the ones my musical-loving friends make me listen to with enough frequency that these atrocious songs take root in my brain and eat away the surrounding hostile environment. Then I'm a goner! Thus, the only musicals I like are Rent, Chicago, Moulin Rouge (barely counts, but I'm including it) and Wicked. No Day But Today! IP: Logged |

Moulin Rouge totally counts, though I preferred Ewan MacGregor's singing in A Life Less Ordinary. That was a cute movie.IP: Logged |

Haven't seen it, but I'll check it out. I'm sure I'd love it. Oh! If you enjoy Ewan, have you seen "Down With Love?" It's hilarious! "The darnedest thing..." IP: Logged |

"The Sound of Music" was a pretty decent musical. "My Fair Lady" and "Chitty Chitty BAng Bang" had some catchy tunes too. Saw them all way, way back but can still recall the music.IP: Logged |

Future, inspired by this thread I went to see Rent tonight. It was awesome, so sad and joyous at once. I loved the character of Angel, he was my favorite. Ahhhh I wanted to cry, it was sad when Angel was gone. I was like, why aren't their more people like this in the world? Open to love and the now? You guys are lucky to have real theater shows where you live. Where I live, we rarely get any productions. When we do its Disney or the Nutcracker. I would love to see Les Miserables or Fiddler on the Roof, or even Cats (to see what the fuss is all about).IP: Logged |
