I just wanted to share with any of ya'll who're interested...Meg (my 19-month-old) has officially started it.She's started asking, "Why?" I guess it's only to be expected w/ her Moon, Venus, and Mars in Gemini in the 11th and her Sun in the 9th... IP: Logged |

Cool! My husband and I use that to help people we counsel. It is great to help a person cope and understand. Kids do it naturally! Foster that in them! Answer them as best as you can! Never or at least try not to...say.."because". With adults...the counselor asks a question. The person answers...then the line of questioning continues with only ONE word.."WHY?" From the counsellor to the persons answers given. The person of course is told this is one thing we are going to do. It can be asked to every answer they give until the issue is resolved...or a number limit of like 3 times asking "WHY",to their answers... and then stopping and discussing things in a more usual manner before moving on to the next series of "WHY?". On can do this as a solitary introspection of self and self questions/issues. Very effective! Try it! Can be fun too! Like a game of charades! Ask a common not serious question: Q>Why do birds sing? A>Because they want to. Q>WHY? A> they want to attract other birds. Q>WHY? And so forth... It can really get hysterically funny to downright interesting depending on the "starter question" before continuing from there with "WHY?"!!!! PS.You can flip the table on a child once in awhile too! When they ask "why?"...reply with a question.."why do you ask? What do you want to know?"..then when the child answers.."just because"...or the typical.."I don't know..."...You ask them.."WHY?". It really can get their young minds thinking! It can open up all kinds of parent child communication and help the child think for themselves. Children can be so much fun! IP: Logged |

Yeah, Gem children are often very precocious and raising them takes a lot of *mental* energy. Just try not to squelch her curiosity. Her mind's ripe for learning all sorts of new things, and the more she learns at this age, the better off she'll be in the long run. Try to make games out of her questions and see how much she can figure out on her own - or at least get her to come up with her own imaginative answers to her own questions, regardless to whether they're right or wrong. The more you encourage her to think and find answers in creative ways on her own, the less likely you'll have to endure months of one "why" question after another.IP: Logged |

pixelp - Ah ha. Ha ha. Ha. fayte - I'll keep your suggestions in mind GemNymph - I think it's endearing as heck, actually When I called my Mom and told her, she said, "Oh. Good. You deserve it." (I was apparently just the same.) I've asked her, "Why do you think?" a couple of times; her vocab's still a little rudimentary, so I usually get, "Apple," "Kitty," "Wabbit," or maybe "Fwlaggle Wrlok!" (Fraggle Rock) as an answer I'll try not to squelch, but to vigorously encourage exploration! Stargazer - Really! Hm. Meg's a Taurus Sun/Gem Moon/Leo Asc...tell me more IP: Logged |

fayte - I love, "Why?" askers - they're the best people She's "counting" now, too...but counting, "Two, two, two, TWO, Twoooo!" It's apparently a much better number than all those other dumb bunnies. At least to a Taurus, I guess IP: Logged |

ariestiger! You are cool yourself! Thank you! And...proxieme! "Why" askers are great! If more folks asked themselves "why" and more folks asked others "why"... And aswers were freely given... Ah..how much communication would be enhanced and clarity of meanings..intent..and so forth! The road to discovery I think should have a big sign post with "WHY?" written on it! PS. Ever noticed how many songs begin with "why" or include "why" over and over in the lyrics? Same for poetry!
