re: .. from other thread .. u wrote .. *** Personally, I wish I'd have gotten a Gibson/Epiphone. I don't need the Fender twang so much as I prefer a more pure guitar sound.***when i read that .. i immediately thought of a tv talk show .. american i think .. anyhow was on years ago .. and Chet Atkins and Mark Knophler were playing .. .. i think they were both playing the same model guitar ... .. they seemed to be able to switch from a very 'nylon string acoustic' sound to a fairly twangy electric sound ..... .. about a month before the show .. .. gibson announced a new guitar that was somehow connected with Chet Atkins .. the spin was on a new type of pickup or combinations of such ... .. basicly it was a thin acoustic ( i think ) .. i.e. hollow body .. with one cutaway .. no apparent pickups on veiw ... at least i think not .... i do remember the price as being fairly hefty ... so anyway .. was at a mates place today .. guitarist .. and got to talking on the subject .. he is a sound engineer .. and has a better liking of acoustic guitars than myself :-) .. .. well he plays them more often ... ... he came up with the name "fishman" transducers (acoustic pickups) .. as in the way to go for an accoustic sound from an electric ... evidently they make quite a variety .. as like .. one with separate transducers for each string ... .. flatwound strings will mellow an electric out .. i think in that 'tone' article .. there was mention of bolt on necks contributing to 'twang' .. something about mechanics of it and how it tensions the strings .. something lke that .. .. and there are some new 'coated' strings about .. no idea about them .. except they might produce a bit more of an acoustic type sound .. .. but then again maybe not ... .. and for a somewhat gibson sound from a strat .. some of the stacked humbuckers sound good .. ... .. e.g. i have a fender jap Tele .. bought .. when what i realy had in mind was a 335 .. .. so .. as i had a p.a.f. clone to hand (gibson pickup) .. i took the plunge .. routed out the body wood and stuck the p.a.f in the neck position .. .. if i take it to a jam session .. i often get gibson owners comming over to check out why it sounds like it does .. after hearing it wound up .. so to speak .. .. i don't use distortion .. just the clean channel turned up a ways :-) anyhow the point of post was .. the .. "fishman" transducers .. be well .. h.d. IP: Logged |

Sorry I never replied to this. I saw it while at work and couldn't respond.I'm not too much of a techy when it comes to instruments. If it sounds good, I like it. That said, there are quite a few electrics equipped with piezo pickups these days, which is supposed to mimick the sound of acoustic guitars. I think I'd like one of these: http://www.godinguitars.com/godinsigseriesp.htm LGX-SA, Three Voice The LGX-SA is a three-voice guitar featuring electric and acoustic guitar sounds, plus the infinite possibilities provided by synth access. The output from the bridge transducer system in the LGX-SA produces six separate signals—one for each string. This divided signal is called hexaphonic and is used to drive guitar synths. The LGX adapted itself to this application quite easily. However, in addition to the electronic modifications, the guitar itself was altered in order to achieve the best possible performance. The most visible difference between the standard LGX and the LGX-SA is in the ebony fingerboard. The use of the ebony fingerboard improves synth tracking. Guitar synth systems in the past were technically complicated and required radical changes in playing technique. The LGX-SA/RolandTM GR-synth combination represents a new standard in user friendliness and performance. This is truly a 'plug in and play' system.
