Hi Knowflakes!Does anyone have a familiarity with Mormon Wedding Receptions? I am invited to go to one this Saturday. I had looked up online the kinds of formal dresses Mormons wear and realized how modest looking they were. I went out shopping trying to find something to blend in, but haven't been happy with the search and have discontinued that effort. I've decided to wear what I already have, albeit the outfit is black. I don't have anything formal looking in any other color that fits in with their fashion convention. Is wearing black OK for an evening reception, particularly a Mormon one? Thanks! Aphrodite IP: Logged |

Every Mormon reception I've ever been to has been very low key. Usually buffet style food, receiving line, where you meet, greet and congratulate the happy couple and thats pretty much it. I suppose being an evening reception there may be dancing....is it going to be held at their ward bldg? Unless these are some hoity toity Mormons, I'm sure whatever you already have in your wardrobe will be fine.IP: Logged |

I have been to mormon receptions too, and I just wore a Blue shirt and tie, with black slacks, I aways recall the men having suit jackets on the back of the folding chairs and everywhere I looked there were just white shirts, colored ones and ties. Girls can get away with anything Modest...lol. Its always been fun, and I dont get drunk...lol. you'll have a good time. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the additional input, Thorshammer! I am feeling a lot better. (Hehe on drunkeness). The reception is going to be at her local church. The actual sealing ceremony is taking place at a temple in another city. Hi Yin! Yeah, that is a pretty dress. It looks like a dark red dress with purple beading on my computer screen.
