Do you have anything that gives you "comfort" even though you might not even particularly like it or would find it embarrassing to cop to in company?Mine's Steely Dan. My Mom used to listen to 'em during her Saturday dust-attack and big-dinner making. Now their music brings to mind lazy, sunlit days. I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I'm listening to "Babylon Sister" right as I write. IP: Logged |

Mine really is a food..it Ice Cream!!! See I even felt the need to capitalize it. I can't keep it in my freezer for more than a few days. The only way I can control myself with it is by not buying it. Can one be addicted to ice cream?? Is there a name for this disorder yet? lolIP: Logged |

LSH ~It's called FDD -- Frozen Dessert Dependence Let's face it, I'm addicted too, and the only answer (which is NO answer!!!!) is abstinence When I'm unhappy, the car knows the way to the grocery store and the feet know the way to the frozen-case without conscious mental direction..... The foods I eat for comfort...oh, so many.I love: tapioca pudding (yum!), kheer (rice pudding), anything with whipped cream: cakes, cream puffs, pie, mostly sweets. Some savories: lasagne and soup. I wanted to add to mine; I guess I always think of comfort in terms of food, but... Saturday mornings, which are my favorite day of the week: waking up, enjoying hot morning coffee, looking outside at the weather, listening to music or watching the morning news The rain, lazily browsing through local bookstores, cooking is really comfort for me. Hmmmm... comfort music. My Morning Jacket - Good for any time. Crosby, Stills & Nash. Also The Allman Bros. Neil Young - with or without Crosby, Stills & Nash. Food - Everyone thinks it's odd... but I love lima beans with butter, salt, pepper, a little tabasco sauce, and cottage cheese. I have it at least once a week. Dark chocolate... yum. Edited - Hey, I like a little Steely Dan. Do It Again, Black Friday, My Old Schools, Ricky Don't Lose That Number, Reeling In The Years. It reminds me of warmer weather... open all the windows in the house for a good cleaning... Also, painting. I remember listening to Steely Dan while painting my daughter's bedroom. (I haven't a clue why I remember that) Yep, I've been teased over it myself. _______________________________________ Scorpio sun, venus, mars, mercury, and uranus Libra moon, pluto, and asc. .... hmmm.... Sausage and mash... tea... oh, familiar music... my mum played so much... anything my mum liked basically and some stuff my dad likes like The Beatles. I would list my mum's but it takes up too much room. Reading Love Signs cheers me up funnily enough. Listening to something I liked when I was younger like the Spice Girls. or listening to my I Love the 70's cd. Haha that is just brilliant. Dancing to disco music... with my mother! Watching one of my favourite films like Donnie Darko... Fight Club... Man with two Brains.. Shot In The Dark oh truckloads of films. Most films make me happy. Saturday night tv. Getting ready for going out for dinner. Especially whilst dancing to music in my underpants which is a guaranteed laugh. More foods... pizza I suppose... oh sausage sandwiches, pilchards on toast. Not the best but comforting as it reminds me of watching the new adventures of Superman when I was littler. Oh happy times.I hope I haven't killed off another thread... IP: Logged |

I do that a lot, too - my post is often a death knell to a thread.Ahh, the Beatles...my parents listened to them and their ilk so much that I got ribbed for "singing in a British accent" when I was little. (They played so much of it that I guess I thought that's just how words are sung.) ANNNND, HEEEEYY - Donnie Darko Doesn't that supposedly take place in Fairfax (where I was born)? (No, most of Fairfax looks nothing like in the movie.) IP: Logged |

Chocolate: Dark, hands down! I usually get a chocolate hangover from milk chocolateConforts: An old movie, any old movie, so long as it's old (and not a western) A fantasy book or movie (LOTR, Princess Bride, etc.) A long shower....this is embarrasing but usually I lie down under the water and it is a realy neat experience Time spent with my mom, with warm tea. Foods: Chocolate Chips and cottage cheese (I know it sounds odd, but it is reallllly good) Anything with whipped cream on it Fetticine Alfredo Latte...this is number one because i don't feel guilty afterward. So a good coffee always cheers me up IP: Logged |

The music - Velvet Underground, David Gray, Sarah McLachlan, Bob Dylan. The movies - High Fidelity and The Wedding Singer (for the corny 80s music). The smell of home made raspberry jam being made in the morning is like waking up in this heavenly place where everything is good.IP: Logged |

Comfort Foods...anythings sweet! But, especially chocolate, ice cream and pastries. A special treat is putting them all together: Sanders Hot Fudge Ice Cream Puff!!! Mmmmmmmm! And I Love romantic movies and books, but not the sappy kind...the firery passion kind! Curl up on the couch in a comfy blanket, start a fire and watch a movie or read...definitely my kind of comfort day! Music varies on my mood, but if I just want to relax...then probably Enya or some type of instrumental music. ------------------ In the search for me, I discovered truth. Proxieme,I LOVE Steely Dan! Their music gives me an instant emotional tune up. Brings me back to childhood, lazy summer afternoons feeling relaxed, driving home from the harbor after a day of sailing. Aja, Doctor Wu, Kid Charlemagne... AHHHH good times. It will be interesting to see if my daughter has such peaceful memories of that music when she grows up. *puts on the live album, cancels all appointments and spends the rest of the day daydreaming* ------------------ "Your life is what your thoughts make it." ~Marcus Aurelius IP: Logged |

Food doesn't give me comfort- even though I enjoy a great meal. TV gives me comfort LOL.... but (and here is my confession concerning a special indulgence) I love COURT SHOWS LMAO... You know what I mean? Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown...etc... I even DVR them when I am at work and watch them on weekends when I am getting ready or when I am bored. I have about 8 hours to watch and since my honey is leaving for Germany - I'll be all sad soooo.....it looks like I'll be catching up on the shows. IP: Logged |
