This is the last thing I did. http://www.myspace.com/omsfriends

It's not much, but it was a fun experiment in online collaboration.

I'm supposed to be working on music for my roommate's video game right now, but I just haven't had the desire/energy lately.

That's too bad about your guitar. I was lucky in that my mom had a classical guitar that she had tried to learn. I think she had bought it new, so it was in fine condition when I pulled it out to learn bass.

Maybe you could save up $100, and buy one of these beginners: http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/specials/acoustic-guitar-packages.asp

I recommend the Takamine, but only because mine has been so faithful. Though I did spend like $600 on mine when I bought it in 1995.

You could also try Target. They sell some cheap ones. I'm not sure on the quality, but they shouldn't be too difficult to return if you find a flaw in them.

I was thinking it during his performance, and Tommy confirmed it afterwards...

Tommy Lee's got a man crush on Phil.

Seriously! He even commented on his looks.

LOL
I haven't had a chance to check out your link yet. I will soon...
I was hoping that Tommy just looks at him like a son type thing. Um, isn't the whole buxom blonde look his thang? At least he didn't wonder out loud if Phil was wearing underwear...
hehehe
Well, for me Lukas and Dilana are the only choices. The others are good, but not right. The ones who were the worst last week gave it their all this week and ended up quite impressive, although not right for the band.
Patrice reminds me of Sheryl Crowe trying to do GnR and I can't stand Storm. They nailed it with the Broadway/over-acting comment. Jill just tried to do Dilana and failed miserably. She appears desperate and grasping at straws.
I know you think Josh is good, but I'm not into him. That Toby guy caught my attention a bit tonight but he is still nothing compared to Dilana and Lukas. They must have sold their souls for Rock n Roll.

I think that Phil might be a Pisces (because of his lazy, drugged-looking eyes), which would be opposite of Virgo Tommy. There's often an attraction between opposites. I'm not saying Tommy's gay. It's just a little man-crush.

Overall, as far as the objective goes, I think you're right. I do think Phil will go pretty far. I think Jill's got enough talent to get pretty far. I think Toby's got enough talent to go pretty far.

Josh is good, but he's not a rocker. He's a soul guy. He'd probably be better suited to American Idol. Or if Maroon 5 ever lost their singer -he'd be a good replacement.

Toby did better than Lukas last night. Lukas slaughtered a beautiful song, while Toby gave a little grit to that Killers song. I don't think Toby really wants the job, though.

Last night's group of songs were excellent. There were a bunch of great picks. Phil got one of the best songs (Tonic's If You Could Only See). Dilana was magical with the middle eastern version of Ring of Fire.

Got any astrological guesses on these people?

Dana - Libra or Cancer or mix
Dilana - Taurus or Gemini
Phil - Pisces or Aries
Jill - Taurus
Toby - Capricorn
Lukas - Taurus
Zayra - Leo
Ryan - Capricorn
Storm - Aries or Sag

Storm must be an Aries since she annoys me so much. I would go heavy Scorp influence for Lukas and Dilana, and I loved Lukas last night! I don't know that Coldplay song very well though, so maybe that's why. I had no expectation for him to sing it any other way.

Yah, Phil got a great song. Love that one. He did ok, but I'm with Jason, I have to close my eyes to enjoy his singing! hehhe You are prolly right about the Pisces Phil thing, but I would have guessed him a Virgo.

I think the weird, skinny dark haired chick is a Pisces.
Dilana could also have some strong Cap influence.
Dana, Leo's my guess.
I'll go Gemini Josh and Taurus Toby.
Ryan's really reserved but good, I'll go Cap for him.

Oh WHY didn't they get rid of Zayra?!?!?
I guess they figured they shouldn't get Chris' hopes up. And Zayra makes for more interesting television. I just don't want to hear her sing anymore. Boo hoo.

Yeah, Zayra had a good chance of leaving, but it may have been merciful to Chris. Chris didn't seem to handle the criticism very well, though he definitely tried.

I didn't like that they challenged everyone who complained about the comments they were given. I mean, it seems like they'd all shut up around the cameras from now on if they're going to be challenged for reacting honestly.

On the other hand, I also didn't like that every person who was challenged kind of side-stepped and disowned their own honest reaction. I think they should have owned it, and said, "Yes, I reacted the way I did," and follow it up with either a confirmation that they still think the comments were unfair, or a statement saying how they've considered it and know where the band is coming from. I can understand them wanting to get out of having to answer for their reactions as soon as possible, but it would have been nice if someone would have just had a bit of courage. (That's part of what made Marty so great last time. He always took the opportunity to frame his comments from his own perspective, and the band generally agreed with him when he did that.)

I thought the exact same thing. Lukas actually did say at first that he had later reflected back and seen the point etc, but after Jason said his bit on being Metal Kings Lukas backtracked a bit. I know I would be talking in the Mansion like Big Brother was watching for sure. They even complimented Aussie guy for his artful brown-nosing. (hehehe, at least I think he was smart enough to remember the cameras were rolling and that they play that stuff on air... he had compliments that night so he wasn't emotionally crazy enough to forget the cameras)

I don't have time to post very much because I am at work, but I really cannot believe that they kept Zayra over Chris! Chris is really not bad at all, I don't see why they give him such a hard time. Zayra is ridiculous! What a joke! She is strange.

Everyone seems just too young for them. Everyone needs to show more action on stage - sure, it's great to have a great voice, but that's not enough when you will have the responsibility of fronting these hardcore, experienced, diverse, high energy guys. They need someone who is naturally talented, NOT someone they need to give constant advice to. Like, Gwen Stefani gives such a good performance for No Doubt, and Mick for the Stones.........they need someone who will bring NEW CREATIVE ENERGY to them, and that shows a natural talent for performing.

I agree with both your comments how they wimped out when confronted about their behind the scenes comments. They should have stood up for what they said, instead of kiss up all wimpy style.

Bottom Line : It's going to be Dilana. She is really the only one. Next in line would be Toby and Lukas. All the others just don't have their style/stamina/experience (Of Tommy, Gilby, and Jason).

I am really surprised that these people are the best this show could come up with. I don't think they did a very good process of sifting/screening/weeding out what is necessary for this band.

AG ~ I don't think just because Tommy said that to Phil that he has a crush on him. I think he was just trying to be polite and compliment him, to make up for his short-comings.

Mystic ~ I like Baby Spice but think she is too young for them...........but how can you say that Aries annoys you? I have an Aries Moon and an Aries Asc...........do you find me annoying??????? Not ALL Aries people are the same - it's the entire chart that makes up someone's personality.

Watching the reality videos at their website, I'm pretty sure Dilana is a Taurus. Just the way she acted overall. They showed her picking the Johnny Cash song, and then offering to trade (which isn't really Taurus-like, but you just got to see what her personality is like). She got freaked out by being the chosen for the encore in the first week. She didn't want to feel the pressure she feels now to keep such a high standard. She really comes off quite a bit more shy in those videos.

I agree. Maybe they didn't advertise it enough. When they did the first season I saw the notices for people who were interested in participating. I had no idea that this season was going to happen, and that it would be this band. I'd heard that they tried to get Alice In Chains to do the show, but that was it.

Half of these contestants play guitar, and are used to hiding behind the guitar. When you're used to that, you're not used to the freedom of moving around and doing stuff on stage. Learning stage presence is a tough thing if it doesn't come naturally to you. They are probably all receiving instruction in what they should try out. Gwen Stefani was in a band for years prior to hitting the big time, so she had time to develop a level of comfort on stage.

Neph, I have Aries in first house and the love of my life, my baby girl, has Aries moon. I am just joking because of that opposite sign of the same sex competitive thing. I was just being un-politically err astrologically correct!

That's cool

The thing about guessing Sun Signs, is that it doesn't always work, because our Rising Sign is really how others see us. Also, sometimes someone might have a strong Moon, and that might conceal their Sun sign. I know several Aries people who all have totally completely different personalities. I know several shy Leos.

I am a Taurus with Venus in Taurus so you would bet that I could sing...........but I can't hold a tone/key/melody/note.

Anyhow ~ back to the show ~ Well...........what I meant about Gwen and Mick is that they have an innate talent for performing while singing on stage. I am speaking of Gwen when she was in No Doubt....even from the beginning when they were in high school. So I think SuperNova needs to find someone with an innate talent as well. Not someone they need to "teach" or "force" to do things "their way."

So anyhow.....I am going to make a prediction. I predict that Dilana is going to be their lead singer, and that she and Tommy are going to hook up at some point thereafter.

Tell James I say HEY! hehehhe

Right, right, Aries ENERGY is what I usually say. I'm just being sloppy on this thread since we are just chatting about our favorite television show! LOL

I don't know, Lukas is awesome. I think they might go with Lukas too. I bet they are still back and forth with those two.

My goodness, I switched to ABC after Rockstar to see what that "The One" was about. The judges are really weird and half the time I think the singers are lip-synching. It's just a weird show so far. They are all very produced, but also very good. It almost seems like a scripted soap opera type thing.

Which is totally different from Rockstar, Oh My Goodness:

Jason on bass.

It was like he was a bolt of electricity and when he slammed into Phil, he juiced him up. I was crying, like I always do when I see Metallica or (any of them) play. It was SO good to see him play.

The show just started here.

So you're telling me that Jason plays bass for Phil? What do you make of that? To me, that just cements the Tommy Lee man-crush theory more. Last week Jason was saying that what he doesn't like about Phil is the thing that Tommy does like about him. Seems like this performance may be a test. Maybe Jason wanted to see what it would be like to play with him. Or maybe he just wanted to try to inspire him. I still haven't seen it yet, though. I still bet Phil goes far in this competition thanks to Tommy.

Lukas did good! The moves were mostly stolen, but it was fun to watch. He's got a cool look.

Ok, I won't make a new post. I'll just edit this.

Storm & the Balls myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/stormandtheballs
Gotta love the categorization: "Other / Jazz / Christian Rap"

"Best Of Portland 2004 by : Byron Beck for Willamette Week : Any band with the word "balls" in its name should be, well, ballsy, and one-of-a-kind torch singer Storm Large and her three-man backing band the Balls don't disappoint. The commanding, 6-foot blond vixen cleverly twists rock and heavy-metal hits, American classics and everything in between into absurd and poignant renditions best described as loungecore. In Storm's world, Abba and Iron Butterfly coexist harmoniously in "Abba-Gadda-Davida," and it's perfectly normal to revisit Metallica, the Cramps and "The Star-Spangled Banner" in one raucous evening. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Storm's Balls consist of skilled ex-members of Everclear and Motherload. The Balls are crazy, sexy punk rock jazz. They run the gamut of live metal mash-up to heart wrenching torch songs. The band is super tight, and Storm could be Charlize Theron's big ex-con sister who will scare you into loving her forever."

I've seen Phil now. Wasn't bad at all. Probably his best performance.

I can't believe STP's Plush is one of the songs tonight. That's like every guy's favorite Karaoke song... so easy to sing.

Dilana's stage performance was good, but her first chorus particularly was way off melodically, and not in a good, unique way. It was so far from what it was supposed to be I couldn't help wonder if she's been screwing it up all week. I can't imagine that the back up band wouldn't say anything if that chorus was her instinctive way of singing it. She got it together by the second chorus.

Yeah, I don't remember who sang that one, but I was doing something in the kitchen and singing along and I remember thinking, sheesh, I could do better than that... hehhehe That is just a song with so much POSSIBILITY. Lukas or Dilana could have blew minds with that one. Oh, it was the Iceland guy that I'm not too into.

You said, "Seems like this performance may be a test. Maybe Jason wanted to see what it would be like to play with him. Or maybe he just wanted to try to inspire him." Those were my exact thoughts also. Added to the third thought, "inspire" him enough to what he could do with the energy if he had it.

He did great with the Rock "god" boost, but WOW, think about what Dilana and Lukas could do with that. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

I thought Dilana was AWESOME. I think she is so natural, at home on stage. I think she is so AMAZING. I LOVED her performance and thought Zombie was perfect for her. I knew Tommy liked her ------> "Dilana, I wanna."

Magni looked like he was trying out for a role on "A Bugs Life".

I thought Lukas was very good.

Jenny, or the tall blond, whatever her name is, has got to go.

They all had improved their performances last night. I think it's because they are getting used to being on stage now.

LOL at Bug's Life!

Well, thank goodness she did go, I was sick of watching her perform and I really don't want to keep seeing long dark haired chick perform anymore either. I can also do without Magni. That song is very easy to sing and has no range to it, that's the only reason why he sounded ok for once. Wow, little chick did great after getting advice from Dilana! She has a nice voice but she hasn't got a chance. She IS fun to watch sometimes though, and it's entertaining to watch her in "Rock Bootcamp" as she put it. hehe
I wish we could see the BEST people performing all of the time instead of the worst. Oh, Josh was ok in his "fight for his life" performance, but still not good enough. I personally don't like the style of his voice at all.

AG, I tried to check out your songs but they didn't play. I have trouble listening to songs on MySpace for some reason. I've tried listening on other's site's also and no luck.

I agree.

I watched the online reality episodes after the show tonight, and Magni actually got complimented right off the bat from the vocal coach that came in. She worked with each of them, and she was really impressed with Magni.

What was interesting as well was that Dilana and Lukas were the most terrified of the vocal coach. Dilana handled it well, but Lukas didn't. He acknowledged that she was right about his voice, but I think he had a problem being vulnerable in front of everyone.

She did better, and she certainly picked the best song of the three, but where she needs to go [in her performances] is so unnatural to her I don't think there's a way for her to catch up.

I can't take the nasally tone myself. It was so bad during Come As You Are. I don't really understand his fascination with Nirvana. Maybe he's a Pisces.

I did like that he had fun with his performance. He seemed like he was just saying, "Screw it." I liked his tribute to his fellow singers.

I hated the song choice. I'd personally love it if people taking the 'rock' challenge would choose something hard. Give me some Audioslave, Soundgarden, Jane's Addiction, WolfMother, Muze, Led Zepplin, Guns N'Roses, A Perfect Circle, RHCP, etc. (STP's perfectly fine as long as you can bring it.) Give me something with some power behind it. Something big and macho. Think of your favorite riff, and do that song.

Why are these people singing these soft, acoustic style songs for a heavy, hardcore rock band? Did they forget they are trying out to front this band? Then when they are in the bottom 3, they give a desperate hard rock performance as a last ditch effort. They should have done hard rock to begin with.
Jenny looked so fake and forced trying to be a hard rock singer ~ her outfit too.
I totally agree with Dave's comment that one of them belongs in a coffee house ~ actually, a lot of them do.
The thing is, that most of them are just not the same style as Supernova. That doesn't mean they aren't good in their own mode ~ that's what they need to learn, that each of them just needs to go do their own thing.
I agree, I don't like Josh's nasal voice, and why did he sing Heart Shaped Box when someone else already sang it the week before.
Tommy should tell these people, "look, you are great in your own style, you are just not right for us, and just not what we are looking for."
I agree, I totally want to see some heavy songs like GNR, Jane's, Motley, Metallica, etc. It's a waste of time to play all these baby tunes ~ sure, I love the Cars, but Supernova isn't going to be playing that.
OMG I totally agree, I want to see the TOP 3 performers sing, not the bottom 3. Also, it would be cool if they showed us everyone's rank each week, but that probably would give influence to unfair voting.
