Would men be so keen on wearing heels themselves, huh? Not too many of them would, I'm sure!

Haven't you ever looked at historial pictures? Men DID wear heels. Most likely they gave it up (except for the 70's glam-rockers ) due to the discomfort factor. Now they just cinch ties around their necks...

is it be possible that women could have brains, good minds and loving souls, and wear heels, if that's how they feel sexy and that's what appeals to the men who love them?

can they not wear their trainers to do physical activities, then come home, change clothes and go to dinner, in a svelte, sophisticated pair of heels?

does this cancel out a woman's possession of brains and a good soul?

women also dress to appear attractive, as do men....men and women do the mating dance thing...i think they enjoy it?

perhaps women should just wear burkas all the time?

women also starve themselves in their quest for beauty and sex appeal...they ingest toxic substances for the appearance of 'beauty'....they use these toxic substances in body and hair care products daily. they spend enormous amounts of money on their physical appearance and looks rather then investing in books, their children, and all sorts of more brain and soul enhancing items.

beauty is all the rage...we are all oppressed.

Before it's washed to the sea?

Yes, 'n how many years can some people exist
Before theyre allowed to be free?

Yes, 'n how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesnt see?

The answer, my friend, is blowin in the wind,
The answer is blowin in the wind.

I wear big heels sometimes when I go out. And my general work shoes (which are comfortable actually) have 1 1/2" or 2" heels.

I'm 5'10" 1/2 but I like to be TALLER. Just makes me happy to be taller. And, generally, I *do* like the way they make my butt look.

Wearing moderate heels is a lot different than mutilating your feet to be a size 3 for ever. I actually have FABULOUS looking feet - no kidding.

I had to laugh at the idea that heels equate oppression. If heels are symbolic of our sexuality, and our sexuality is a threat that needs to be oppressed, why are we so encourage to wear them? Silliness, I say.

Moreover, I think women who are extremely negative about behavior of other women - especially ones that involve sexual expression, subtle or not so subtle - probably harbor some self-loathing and insecurities about their own feminine power and sexuality. Maybe Freud wrote an essay about that.

I like to wear heels, when I can and want to, because they make me taller. That's it. Granted, with a 1H pluto, I can walk into any room and demand attention through non-verbal cues easily, despite my average height. But wearing heels seems to enhance that power - so actually, I find wearing heels empowering, not oppressing. I suspect that many women wear heels for similarly empowering reasons, be they female shrinks or topless models. Truth is, I see nothing demure or weak about wearing heels - they're attention grabbing and they make an impression (not to mention they often look like something intentionally designed to double as a weapon - go all Freudian on that!). And if I'm right that women in general find heels empowering, that would certainly explain why so many of us tolerate the discomfort.

Good question,

I for one cannot stand high heels. I refuse to wear them. Sometimes, maybe it's the Gemini Asc in me, I'll wear them for special occasions, and almost always end up with sore feet by the end of the night. My feet were not designed to be walking, standing or moving in any which way in high heels.

If I were shorter, like some of my girlfriends and felt I needed the height I would where chunky heels or platform type shoes only.

But men do wear heels - and I’m certain some straight ones fantasise about wearing heels too (@_@) http://www.theroostnit eclub.com/images/David%20Barrus,%20%20%20%20

I love heels, it’s really not that deep but I don’t believe for one moment all women should wear them. When you’re at the supermarket, or shopping, or on the train…I don’t think anyone cares what you’re wearing on your feet. Most people wont notice, let alone think you’re conforming.

dear DforDefiant ~

i did read your previously posts carefully...these are the statements to which i responded ~

quote:
Which one do you want? Having your feet worshipped by men as fetishes (even other parts of your bodies- since someone just mentioned that heels may make our bottocks "bigger"), or making sure your intelligence is intact?

and you ask hot ice to 'choose' ~

quote:
Do you prefer a woman with a "bigger/cuter" butt, longer/sexier legs, "sexy" feet with heels on but mutilated feet with heels off, and probably nothing else, or not much else, or-

a woman with a brain, a good mind, a loving soul?

I look forward to your answers. I wonder what in a woman is more important to you.

you posed these questions in such a manner that implies that a woman wearing high heels is fundamentally different than a woman with a brain, loving soul and intelligence.

but your reply to me seems somewhat contradictory ~

quote:
I'm positive that a woman can have a brain, a good mind, a good, loving soul AND wear heels, and wearing heels DOES NOT cancel out a woman's possession of brains and a good soul. I was not implying what you thought I was- I was not saying women who wear heels do not have brains, good minds or good and loving souls.

some people view wearing heels as an expression of empowerment; the following statements imply the opposite, and that you are preaching that heels render women inferior, weak and ridiculous victims.

quote:
Wearing heels seems to be some deeply-rooted, twisted complex we as women have been suffering for generations. We enjoy heels as one of the symbols of our sexuality, our femininity; we don't realize that we have been victims of oppression.

quote:
I am startled and dismayed that these highly educated women, who are experts in medicine, who are doctors- even psychiatrists at that- can allow themselves to look like such f**king barbies!

as for the image i presented of an advertisement illustrating the allure of high heels, your initial views seemed very disparaging of the woman in the ad ~

quote:
My intuition tells me that a woman like that is...I'll refrain from making controversial comments here. I'd just like to say that I think a woman like this one can only live an existence as an object being exhibited.

what controversial sentiment were you harboring about "a woman like this one"?? like what? because she appears in a sensuous pose she "can only live an existence as an object being exhibited"?

why is that? does her momentary expression of her sensuality negate every other aspect of her life, so that she is nothing more than on object? why does the wearing of heels, and/or a sensuous moment flatten so irrevocably the dimensionality of a woman's existence?

quote:
I've always make efforts to ensure that people are fully aware that I am a woman...

With moderate heels and reasonable amount of jewelry, e.g. modest earrings, tiny necklaces...I wanted to make sure that people would not misidentify me as anything but a woman. A woman who's sexually attracted to men (mainly- if speaking in strict, technical terms) and NOT a lesbian LOL

this seems very naive, and indicative of your limited ideas of what qualifies as a person's expression of sexual preference. perhaps if you wish to "question some things that have been perceived as perfectly normal," you might begin with your preconceptions of what identifies a person's sexual orientation.

and about your experience with your parents ~

quote:
I realized a long time ago that only an extremely few can ever comprehend my predicaments and how incredibly abusive and emotionally unstable my parents have been, and in this case, my mother.

a great number of people have suffered extremely difficult relationships with their parents, you are not alone, by a long shot, in this regard...it's the nature of our society -- modern economy benefits enormously from the dysfunctional handicap of the majority of the population, in a myriad of ways. the psychiatric racket is just one example. were people actually to function in a whole and healthy manner, their lucrative jobs would be extinct.

About 7 years ago, when I was still at Uni, I studied a subject dealing with the origin of human kind, evolutionary stuff and so on...

I remember something that struck me hard… An explanation, scientific explanation, of why high heels are so sexy… Why men like women wearing them...

Apparently a raised foot arch is a feminine characteristic, evolutionarily speaking. Females of early humans developed high foot arches when they started to walk on two feet. That helped them to keep balance when they were pregnant… When pregnant, centre of mass changes, moves a bit forward. Curved feet made easier to stand for those with heavy bellies. Evolutionary advantage related to femininity…

That is the origin of trying to exagerate a high curved foot arch. Instintively is supposed to mean femininity…

Defiant, I had watched She's the Man and I must've missed that . Even if that is true, I don't need any help in that department thank you very much.

If I were to wear high shoes I'd probably be like DayDreamer and wear either Chunky Heals or Platforms because they're less uncomfortable than thin heals or stilettos which my bf wants to see me in. Oy

Feet as flat as possible. Short tree trunk legs.
No pretty pretty heels are going to change that for me.

The only time heels looked normal on me was when I was anorexic.
Forget that crap!

So no heels, no bra, no girly foo foo here.

Unless I do it for me.
Not for anyone else.

So if that makes me weird. I really do not care.

PS.D for Defiant.
If you cannot get along with your mother. then write her out of your life the best you can, as I have done with mine. Sometimes with toxic ones that is all we can do. At least yours does not threaten to kill you.

Well, first of all, I thought the Charles Jourdan ad was very cool (They have great perfume, too, by the way). I think the ad conveys glamour, sexiness and fun. You can certainly be intelligent and sexy; how ridiculous to think you would have to choose one or the other! I buy all of my pants at a length to accomodate heels just because I like the way it looks. Soooo........ I am going to "weigh-in" on the girly-girl side of the issue! I personally to love to buy new heels and purses........ two great things to blow money on! Even little girls love playing dress up......... who knows maybe it's having a strong Venus in your chart.

DfD Sorry to hear your mother has done the same threat as mine.
BTW...
The no bra bit is mostly because I cannot.
Any straps in the shoulder area are dangerous for me. Too much nerve and bone damage. And heels would be a big trip hazzard as I use a cane (or a walker ot times).
In one of my thinnest times, I did have and wear a pair of 4 inch ones. I tripped, broke the heel and never again anything more than 2inches. Now flats, or sneakers or moccasins.
Since I dress rather plainly and all, fancy shoes are not needed.

But to those who can wear the heels...
Go for it!
BTW...in the 1960s and 1970s guys did wear high heeled boots! And some clogs.

dear D for Defiant ~

you actually do express yourself very well and with an articulate sensitivity that's admirable.

i do hope sincerely that you find a way to reconcile, within yourself, the suffering you feel at the hands of your parents. you will work through it, try letting your higher s-elf guide you...you will come to a place of understanding and repose, in however you choose to live your life, in the best way possible for you. just remember ~ do what's best for you, love yourself. loving kindness from a heart that loves will affect everyone else involved in a positive and beneficial way.
