Hi loveglobin,

Thanks for replying. Why did "The Old Man and the Sea" leave you really sad? Could you explain a little further?

i think it made me sad because
i think there is a part where he mentions-
in the beginning-that he no longer dreamed
of women or adventure-but just lions in
africa (i think that's how it is referred)-
at the end, when his fish is gone-and he has
nothing to show for his adventure-it refers
to him being asleep again and dreaming of the lions-i thought it sad-like he no longer
had dreams.

you should read hemingway short story titled
"a clean, well-lighted place" -i think it has the same type of theme. i know he was
into hunting and adventure-they said the reason he shot himself was because he had "written himself out"-nothing left to write-sort of the same themes as the Old man and the sea......i hope this makes sense
i am really inarticulate at times!

i think also he was interested in the workings of nature-how things were created
and destroyed-in nature.

Yeah, I know that Hemingway was very enthusiastic about bull-fighting, hunting and deep-sea fishing.
