okay so my mind is in a temporary rut* and I need you guys to fill that void for me by giving me some ideas on some non sappy classic rock, indie, ect love songs. some powerful songs!!

*partially in a rut because my 2nd HD died along with 6000 songs. I still have most but they are in a 700 cd stack (some of them data cds of music) and I don't even know where to start without some idea. so if its classic rock, late 60s/early 70s time period folk rock, blues, pysch, indie/post rock, I am sure I have it, sooooo.... ..

Isnt it just....

Intense I mean....

When I got married for the second time, the dj played this song at the wedding reception and I headbanged in the middle of the dancefloor, barefoot, bridal gown etc...

Afterwards my father, who had been standing on the edge of the dancefloor watching said "what are you doing daughter" and then laughed....I think he was a little shocked....

hahaha....

What'll you do when you get lonely
And nobody's waiting by your side?
You've been running and hiding much too long.
You know it's just your foolish pride.

Layla, you've got me on my knees.
Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down.

Chorus

Let's make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don't say we'll never find a way
And tell me all my love's in vain

I always liked "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys. It's non sappy but it conjurs up some real romantic images in my mind. Plus I like the music.

Aruba, jamaica ooo I wanna take you
Bermuda, bahama come on pretty mama
Key largo, montego baby why dont we go
Jamaica

Off the florida keys
Theres a place called kokomo
Thats where you wanna go to get away from it all

Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in your hand
We'll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in kokomo

Aruba, jamaica ooo I wanna take you
To bermuda, bahama come on pretty mama
Key largo, montego baby why dont we go

Ooo I wanna take you down to kokomo
We'll get there fast
And then well take it slow
Thats where we wanna go
Way down to kokomo

To martinique, that monserrat mystique

We'll put out to sea
And well perfect our chemistry
By and by we'll defy a little bit of gravity

Afternoon delight
Cocktails and moonlit nights
That dreamy look in your eye
Give me a tropical contact high
Way down in kokomo

Aruba, jamaica ooo I wanna take you
To bermuda, bahama come on pretty mama
Key largo, montego baby why dont we go

Ooo I wanna take you down to kokomo
We'll get there fast
And then well take it slow
Thats where we wanna go
Way down to kokomo

Port au prince I wanna catch a glimpse

Everybody knows
A little place like kokomo
Now if you wanna go
And get away from it all
Go down to kokomo

Aruba, jamaica ooo I wanna take you
To bermuda, bahama come on pretty mama
Key largo, montego baby why dont we go

Ooo I wanna take you down to kokomo
We'll get there fast
And then well take it slow
Thats where we wanna go
Way down to kokomo

Aruba, jamaica ooo I wanna take you
To bermuda, bahama come on pretty mama
Key largo, montego baby why dont we go

Ooo I wanna take you down to kokomo

Another one of my all time favorite "unconventional" love songs is Bob Dylan's " Tangled Up In Blue"

Early one mornin' the sun was shinin',
I was layin' in bed
Wond'rin' if she'd changed at all
If her hair was still red.
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Mama's homemade dress
Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough.
And I was standin' on the side of the road
Rain fallin' on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through,
Tangled up in blue.

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
But I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out West
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin' away
I heard her say over my shoulder,
"We'll meet again someday on the avenue,"
Tangled up in blue.

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell.
So I drifted down to New Orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Workin' for a while on a fishin' boat
Right outside of Delacroix.
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind,
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew
Tangled up in blue.

She was workin' in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin' at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I's just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, "Don't I know your name?"
I muttered somethin' underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,
Tangled up in blue.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello," she said
"You look like the silent type."
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air.
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died.
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside.
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn,
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew,
Tangled up in blue.

So now I'm goin' back again,
I got to get to her somehow.
All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now.
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives.
Don't know how it all got started,
I don't know what they're doin' with their lives.
But me, I'm still on the road
Headin' for another joint
We always did feel the same,
We just saw it from a different point of view,
Tangled up in blue.

thanks sue!

bob dylan is amazing, I got to see him last summer..wow...to see a living legend is incredible and despite his voice (eee) it still gave me goosebumps. a very mysterious man too, at least he came off like that when I saw him. He got on stage, didn't say a thing and just played...didn't converse with the audience at all but you know he loves music! It was all natural and not hard to imagine him doing that all the time. I wonder what his chart looks like. The way he came off on stage was how I would imagine Tom Waits to act (another mystery man). Waits had a good love song I remember. a hauntingly beautiful song. I love that when the lyrics send a chill down your spine or where they are so sorrowful it is beautiful, if that makes sense. anyone else feel that way?

Aw man, Tangled Up In Blue is one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs. You're so lucky you got to see him live, carlfloydfan, that's awesome. Let's see, I prefer my love songs of the non-sappy classic rock variety as well...

Heart of Gold- Neil Young

I Want to Tell You- The Beatles (maybe a wee bit sappy, but I'm a sucker for George Harrison songs.)

Echoes- Pink Floyd (One of my favorites.)
and from the same album, A Pillow of Winds is pretty nice also.

Ruby Tuesday- The Rolling Stones

Just Like a Woman- Bob Dylan

Incubus has some good ones. Elton John. Train. Non-sappy?

I'm not sure what you'd define as an unsappy love song. A fine line, I would think!

Love song (The Cure or 311)

Beck has a gorgeous song called "Beautiful Way."

What about Oasis or Coldplay?

Melissa Etheridge. Joss Stone.

The Doors.

One of my personal favorites is "Time After Time," and there are tons of remakes. Lately I've been listening to a rendition by OAR. Love it!

I found some

Al Kooper

Through the dark of day your light came shinin through
A golden ray of love that stretched from me to you
In my hour of need the whole world turned its back on me
You were there and not a word was said
A shoulder for my weary head
CAMILLE
If I forsake you may I die
If I disgrace you may I cry
A thousand nights and never feel another moments love
My sweet CAMILLE

I need your tenderness & all the love that's heaven-blessed
And all these things that we share together I owe to you
CAMILLE
You were there and not a word was said
A shoulder for my weary head
CAMILLE
If I forsake you may I die
If I disgrace you may I cry
A thousand nights and never feel another moments love
My sweet CAMILLE

everywhere I go
I hear CAMILLE
If I forsake you may I die
If I disgrace you may I cry
A thousand nights and never feel another moments love
my sweet camille
shes all around me
I can feel her
I'm in love!

JJ Cale

such an easy going yet passionate person! I think he is a typical sag

Whippoorwill's singing
Soft summer breeze
Makes me think of my baby
I left down in New Orleans
I left down in New Orleans
Magnolia, you sweet thing
You're driving me mad
Got to get back to you, babe
You're the best I ever had
You're the best I ever had
You whisper "Good morning"
So gently in my ear
I'm coming home to you, babe
I'll soon be there
I'll soon be there

John Sebastian - she's a lady (I think its a cover of an older song but I like his version better) and my gf loooves this song

She`s a lady
And I chanced to meet her
In my scufflin days
She`s a lady
Hypnotized me there that day
I came to play in my usual way, hey

Floating along with a whimsical twinkling
In her strange green eyes
Linger with me. She said, `Yes!`
And, oh, the time did fly.

She`s a lady
Give her time for she`s
Allowed to change her mind
She`s a lady
Happy to say she once was mine.

Only sometimes I remember old times
And when she says, `Can you guess, it`s a dress
You won`t believe.
Would you come zip me up
And button up my sleeve.

Oh, lady, lady of ladies.
I remember days that felt like
It was raining daisies.

I really love you and I mean you
the star above you, crystal blue
Well, oh baby, my hairs on end about you...

I wouldn't see you and I love to
I fly above you, yes I do
well, oh baby, my hairs on end about you...

Floating, bumping, noses dodge a tooth
the fins a luminous
fangs all 'round the clown
is dark below the boulders hiding all
the sunlight's good for us
'Cause we're the fishes and all we do
the move about is all we do
well, oh baby, my hairs on end about you...

Floating, bumping, noses dodge a tooth
the fins a luminous
fangs all 'round the clown
is dark below the boulders hiding all
the sunlight's good for us
'Cause we're the fishes and all we do

and since she is french

Tels deux amants de longue date
Nous nouse retrouverions une aprés-midi
Nous ferions, nouse ferions longuement l'amour
Ce souvenir vivra dans mes cellules
Quand tes yeux pénétrants rencontreront les miens
Ton corps, ne quitterait jamais le mien
Il y resterait une éternité
Le son profond de ta voix
Tel un rayon vibrant ouvrira mon coeur

Call me when you're Sober
Evanessece

Don?t cry to me.
If you loved me, you would be here with me.
You want me, come find me.
Make up your mind.

Should?ve let you fall,
Lose it all,
So maybe you can remember yourself.
Can?t keep believing,
We?re only deceiving ourselves,
And I?m sick of the lies,
And you?re too late.

Don?t cry to me.
If you loved me, you would be here with me.
You want me, come find me.
Make up your mind.

Couldn?t take the blame,
Sick with shame.
Must be exhausting to lose your own game.
Selfishly hated,
No wonder you?re jaded,
You can?t play the victim this time.
And you're too late.

So, don?t cry to me.
If you loved me, you would be here with me.
You love me, come find me.
Make up your mind.

You never call me when you?re sober,
You only want it ?cause it?s over - it?s over.

How could I have burned paradise.
How could I, you were never mine?

So, don?t cry to me.
If you loved me, you would be here with me.
Don?t lie to me, just get your things.
I?ve made up your mind.
