I have a party to attend tonight. It starts at 9p. In Echo Park. We are all mainly TV/Film people so I'm bringing a bottle of Chardonay (that's how spell it?) from the fine vineyard of Francis Ford Coppola. Get it? Coppola/Film? Anyway, here's my problem. I am FAR from a social butterfly. Tonight I don't want to go and do what I normally do. Find a corner, alone and check everyone out, looking bored out of my mind. Just looking bored though. The problem is, I'm quite content doing this. And so, I usually leave, meeting no one. No, professional contacts, which are important at these types of shindigs. And definitely no romantic ones. And, I'm SOOOO TIRED of it. The small talk irks me though. The where are you from? What do you do? blah, blah, blah.... I like genuine convo. But I guess you have to start with the small talk to get to the real talk. Geesh.... I'm so bad at it. Just wish me luck. Maybe I can "play" the social butterfly tonight. Be someone I'm not. I thought the Gemini Moom is supposed to help me with ths. I'm Virgo sun, Gem moon, Cap rising. But I'm thinking most of my problems with socializing with strangers stems from socialization not personal potential. Oh well, I'm off in 7 hours! Had to get that out. Don't feel more confident though Peace. IP: Logged |

I'm sorry to hear that, I understand what it's like to feel like you're being made to socialize when you don't want to! I don't really have any advice unfortunately I get really uncomfortable just before events like the one you are going to, and take a bit to settle down when I'm at them, and then I don't socialize much except with people I already know. The only thing I know that works is to pretend, play a role, kind of like being an actor for the day, sometimes the outcomes can be neat! IP: Logged |

My husband is a virgo sun with aqua moon and he doesnt like big functions that much, mainly cos he finds them too ordinary and doenst gel with "ordinary people'.... Put him in the mosh pit at a Slayer gig and he is as happy as Larry....I suppose thats cos he dont have to talk to anyone...LOL!! IP: Logged |

Wow! I guess it isn't "socialization". I guess I can stop blaming that on my upbringing. So, thank you all for sharing. Petron, LOL! I'm laughing because I already tried that! BUT, alas, logic has told me to GO. I need this contact. Need to pitch something, get it read, and some representation to sell it. SO, I must. But thanks for sharing that you, a Virg, Gem goes through the same process of, elimination! VirgoTaurus, LOL! Too... Because I thought that as well. Play the role. But then, I remembered one of my Virgo friends who always "play" the role and how annoying and fake she comes off when she, plays it. I'm like, dude, really...Really. Plus, I don't want to be one of those people. Just conversing for the sake of the party. I like genuine connections. So, I'm still doomed tonight to sit in that corner. Yep. And Sue G, When TV/Film people are gathered, 80 percent of the Type A will be there with bells on, seeking to whom can help them. Us Type AB, needing some help too, but a little too "wacky" to play the game that the Type A set the rules of, we get screwed! I guess us, non ordinary people, would like someone to break out a tune on the piano, give a poem from their heart.... Or, get it out off of our chest! Let it be a convention of the ****** ! Hollywood charcters and plots! Down with them!!! The great characters and plots, UP WITH THEM.... Geesh, what am I saying!! I guess, I should look good and be comfortable in what I'm wearing, that always helps. It's LA. White crochet skirt, wife beater, and boots. And for the nippiness, a long sweater and green scarf! Plus I just woke up from a 4 hour nap. Maybe I'll do a foot spa too! Thanks all!!!! The theme to all of your responses is, there's no easy way out. A girl's gotta do what she's gotta do, because she's gotta do it... Peace, Peace, Peace... IP: Logged |

Well, I'm back. Stayed a total of about 20 minutes. Geesh. I did what I had to do and got out of there. Please, someone explain, what's the use of having a party where everyone stands around in circles and talk? Conversations where you rally can't hear the next person. I'm from a different place. If we have a party, there's going to be music, dancing, cards! Since I got older and started hitting the Hollywood circuit, it's always what I went to tonight! Anyway, I did meet someone interesting. A friend of the host. She invited me to send my stuff to this program. Cool. Plus, the host, my friend, is going to read my TV stuff. But furthermore, she's going through a divorce Didn't know that. AND, her husband, I guess ex husband, was there too! She said they're still friends. They were married for 2 years. Strange....Of course I had a host of questions to ask. But I didn't. Like, well, what was it, did he realize he's gay. He seems gay. Not saying something is wrong with it, but, he does seem gay. Anyway..... Thank God it's over!!! IP: Logged | |
