Since My grandmother died a couple of years ago, my mother and I have become very interested in researching my grandmothers mother line (back through all the mothers) and shock horror surprise, (I thought she was English) we're actually from Ireland, the land of the Leprechaun and gold pots etc...woo hoo!My grandmothers great great grandmother, came out to Australia from Tipperary on a ship called Glenswilly, she married an Irish man, eventually my nan came along, then my ma now lil' ole' me :-) My ancestry also includes German (from my mothers fathers line) and also Maori, my mothers father is Maori all the way, except for his German granddad (random, lol) heheh, what a mongrel I am. Just wanted to know if any of you wee lassies from the emerald isle could give me direction on where to search for more info on Irish Immigrants etc, and also how to search on county Thurles or is it a city???...It's not clear, hope I'm making sense, I should be in bed it's almost 4 am here..lol Thanks in advance IP: Logged |

I know what you mean.I am a mutt. I'm a latina girl with a British last name. I was able to trace me ancestry to Ireland also. The celtic era. The last name was a bit different until many celts migrated to England and became known as the Welsh. Then the last name wasn't so Pagan anymore. This is how I started out plus talking to other family members I found out a lot. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=genealogy&spell=1

Your library is your best bet for finding genealogy info. They probably subscribe to genealogy databases that you can get lost in. And best of all - someone else will do the research at no cost to you.IP: Logged |

Hey thanks guys & dolls,Sweet stars, glad to see I'm not the only "mutt" around the place, thanks for your links. Sue, THANKS for that particular link, I've put thurles, ireland, my grandma's name, all sorts into google, however, it's HUGE the amount of pages that come back, and I can hardly get through them, (read, I get lost) that link has never come up for me, or I've not yet come across it. Yin, thanks good idea, unfortunately our village doesn't have a library, my next trip to the city I'll take a look in theirs! Happy new year one & all! IP: Logged | |
