Please do not answer if you would rather noone know, of course...i am curious and thought it might be interesting to do a demographic. (Hope that is the right word!) Also curious as to who all is from Texas or from close to South Texas. Maybe we could have a 'meet-up'? I am not originally from Texas but got here as fast as I could. Also gave birth to a Texan so they can't make me leave now AND I have lived here longer than I have lived anywhere else! Please tell you all!IP: Logged |

aquaspry! Well, I have been in Texas longer than I have been anywhere else but b4 then I was a Chicago area person who said "you guys" and that sorta blended with y'all. Then there is the y'all that rhymes with oil and the more Germanic one YA'all. I guess I am a mixed breed speaker/writer! hahaIP: Logged |

Tux~~~Been there lots! Have a friend---ahhh---former friend Aquarian liar who built a townhouse community on Leeward.... I purchase every year a beach pass and meander the beaches from Port A to CC. This year I purchased a State Park pass and am looking forward to checking out Mustang Is. as well. I try to go around the full moon and get pics of the moon rising over the gulf. I just love the quality of light as the sun sets over the dunes and casts a pink glow on the waves~~~ Will hit ya up with an e-mail when I am off work in the next day or two! Zen---You must visit your Texas beaches!!! They are the last, least inhabited/developed beaches in the US! It is the Gulf, and the water is not Caribbean, blue, but beautiful in her own right!!! Though, I have been there a time or two to wittness "the blue water" coming in and it is fabulous!!! Terri IP: Logged |

ZenAll of Padre Is, from Port A to South Padre have immaculate beaches. The cities of Port Aransas and Corpus Christi keep their beaches VERY clean, and debri free 365 days year round. They get "dirty" when the sea weed from the Sargasso Sea cuts loose and finds it's way to the beach. The cities employ crews to rake up the stuff, though. Cops patrol frequently and they are very strict on glass bottles. Most folks are respectful and clean up after themselves. The free beach, by the jetties in Port A is very busy and tends to be a bit dirtier than the 20 plus miles of beach that you must purchase a beach pass for. The beach passes have always been $6.oo/year, but recently went up to $12.oo. Still a nominal fee for keeping Texas clean!!! Terri IP: Logged |

Nice pictures! Yes, sometimes our beaches can get a little nasty-esp. the "free beaches"...some of the beaches are scraped every morning, some are not. I ride an ATV from March until mid July to look for endangered sea turtles nests and nesting. i ride about 40 miles each turn. Sometimes I get the 140 mile round trip to Mansfield channel and back! i like the morning rides the best as the sun is coming up and everything feels 'new'. there are many animals and birds to be seen if one looks. It is also the time of day many of the turtles choose to nest. The Ridley turtles are day nesters, some sea turtles nest day or night and some only at night. We look for those nests too and mornings are easiest because there are less human made tracks. (you can still drive on most of our beaches) The water changes colors daily from purest blue to greens and grays and mixtures of the above. My doctor had prescribed me xanax for anxiety at the time I started riding turtle patrol. I did not need them at all because the colors, water, and wildlife took my anxiety away! Watching a group of brown pelicans fly in formation is wondrous! Also watching them fly out and dive down from so high into the water for a fish is so good for the heart and mind! By the way brown pelicans dive for food; white pelicans skim the water with beaks open for food.. the trash is a disaster often times-trash from all over the Earth ends up on our beaches. Water bottles everywhere! You never know what can wash up or sadly, be dumped. We pollute ourselves y'know. It is our trash. I do have a collection of old glass floats in many colors and styles I have found. I am more at home in nature than anywhere so love the idea of being miles from humans sometimes. Also have had some marvelous connections with birds, dolphins, and animals, even a snake once! They teach me so much. Some sad, some happy-also after a hurricane or big storm some things that have been buried under the sand surface-mastodon skulls, old car shells, karankua camps- Always pull apart those six-pack rings from soda and beer-do not throw aluminum cans around (white pelicans can scoop them up and get them stuck in their bills ;they then starve), never throw old fishing line around, yaddayaddayadda- the trash we see and abhor is the trash we manufacture, purchase, and discard-me, too! love, Tuxedo MEowIP: Logged |
