and I am a mess.Seriously- a sobbing, blubbering mess. It was time, we both knew it. We had a good run, these seven years. You had some baggage (170.000 miles or so) but you were cheap and easy- $300 brought us together, but I broke up with the boyfriend I liberated you from about 2 months later. We did EVERYTHING together. We have driven cross country about 8 or 10 times, blasting tunes and smoking waaay too many cigarettes. Children hid in fear from the sound of our block rocking beats. We have dodged killer SUVs and bison with aplomb and skill. You politely looked the other way as I engaged in private behavior in very public places. Through it all, you have never, never let me down. But it was time. I traded you in for a new red number, a car that can take me where I need to go. A car that has enough room to give me the space I need. today, I saw you running around town. Some other girl was driving you. She looked happy. I hope you are happy too. I had to pull over and bawl like a little girl. I love you, I miss you....have a good life... I hope your new love treats you the way you deserve. MK IP: Logged |

MK ~You are a fabulous writer!! You have a way of taking the mundane and infusing it with your quirky POV and bringing laughter or tears to the reader I love to read your posts!! Zala PS: You know that little cliche about a reason, a season or a lifetime -- cars belong to that "season" category..... even though we may fall in love, we know it ain't agonna last Forever IP: Logged |

MK YOU ARE AWESOME!!!! I agree with Zala, you are an EXCELLENT writer. The fact that you came up with this over an old car is friggin' brilliant! Kind of along the lines of Seinfeld...making light and "funny" out of every day situations. You should look into writing satire for a living. You rock! And I relate...I broke up with my 7 year old Jeep Wrangler a few months ago. Learned to drive stick on that ole girl. When I traded it in there was a 4 year old Nestle Crunch bar in the glove box, dog puke that I couldn't reach in the back hatch, and a torn back window from the 147th time the thing had been broken into. 170,000 miles she gave me. Great ride, but it was definitely TIME. IP: Logged |

My eyes got misty remembering my old loves...Hey, maybe that's why it's always brought tears to my eyes when people win a new car on the Price Is Right! It's like being at a wedding awwww That was perfect. My two favorite fiction authors are both Virgos. Detail, conciseness and preciseness.

ah yes.. brings back memories of the sad parting I had with the first car I ever bought on my own.. I loved that little white jetta.. drove her into the ground, I did but I loved her nonetheless. Would you mind sharing what kind of car it was, MK? I'm always curious about what people drive..IP: Logged |

Oh, you are all making me blush- as red as my new car...My former car, Betty- as in Betty Page- was a 1990 Honda Accord, 5 speed. Gods, how I love driving stick- i feel like such a bada$$. The illusion of power with a 4 cylinder engine. Life doesn't get much better then a sunny day wearing cool sunglasses, driving around town with the bass bumping (or distorting, as the case with my pawn shop stereo) and smoothly shifting in transit. D@mmit, I love driving but I hate myself for abusing fossil fuels..... my new car is a Pontiac Vibe... ever heard of it? Its like the sport version of a station wagon. I am now boring with the nostalgic hangover of "when I was cool." I really tried to get into a Subaru Outback, but they just scream "I have totally given up all hope of living dangerously." Of course, I am now 33 and really should settle down a bit. Having car payments is a commitment I am not sure I want to deal with- not after 15 years without them. this is going to lead into my next thread- "LL, help me name my new car." funny how we all have misty colored memories of "that car" the one we loved above all others. Betty was more faithful than the men of those years..... MK IP: Logged |

Ah yes...stick shift... I had a 5-speed Jetta, metallic medium blue, sun roof...loved that car, but it was also the target for thieves and had my stereo stolen from it twice... Stick shifts are so sexy, aren't they? IP: Logged |

Is that why I love Subarus? The ultimate Capricorn car: sensible, strong, sure-footed, and able to stay on the road for ages. IP: Logged |

MK, I am in total agreement with the others...your posts are hilarious! I love reading what you have to say. You're one of those rare writers/speakers who can tell someone the way it is in such a way as to cause uncontrollable laughter. I love that part about the car being cheap and easy! quote:

Thanks for the laughter!! Again, I love reading your posts! Spry IP: Logged |

MK - Do you have Mercury squaring your moon by any chance? I have read that these people are ALWAYS interesting and a bit kooky...but in a good way. I've also heard that they can become fantastic writers...especially satire. IP: Logged |
