I am inquiring on a future purchase and found out that there is a new system out there called Vista, so:

What do you guys think ?

If I buy Vista I need 2 GB of memory

If I buy XP I only need 1GB of memory.

But, if I decide to upgrade later on from XP to Vista i would have to get more GB and it would end up being more costly than just getting Vista right now because the demand is not as great with Vista so it costs less than XP.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would i want Vista over XP?

Thank you so kindly!

Depends NAM... What are you gonna be using your computer prodominantly for? If its for more general and casual purposes, then I don't think you need to get Vista. Vista does however offers quite a bit of updated security features and fixed security glitches that XP had.

Vista is more for the graphic artist/ Multimedia enthusist at heart Lol! However with buying Vista you'll need to upgrade your graphics card if you have and older one and your RAM.

I am going to use it just for work, i sell houses and also do mortgages, so no, nothing exciting like creating or anything like that.
I just need something up to date so I can add the software I use for my two jobs, but anything with at least windows XP would do that trick.

I wish I knew a bit more about computers

Probably if you buy a new computer right now they all come with Vista. MicroSoft Corp. operates that way.

I have Windows XP and it fits all my computer needs fine. I have the graphics card capacity and the RAM to update to Vista and MicroSoft keeps nagging me to do that because they charge for the update. But I neither need it or want it.

Lol! You make real-estate business sound like a boring profession yet right now its the hottest market in Canada .

You can always take up graphics art as a hobby if you want but generally XP is good enough for you .

VISTA is a major problem for everyone who has got it.

I am an anti-microsoft person, I promote Linux, especially Ubuntu version.

Moonchild is right, I heard alot of bad stuff about Vista, it has to many holes/glitches(bugs, security flaws, possible revisions). Go with XP for now.

I'd have said XP as well. Vista's new, so inevitably it's not yet ready for market like every new release in Microsoft's history.

i'm running vista with 1 gb ram and a dedicated 128 mb graphics card (vista requires minimumin of 128mb gfx memory) and it runs pretty fine.

but there is no advantage over xp for a user using his pc for general purpose. so better buy xp.

Software programs will be switching over to Vista-only sometime in the future and their support will be Vista-only. If you already have the programs and they are XP-ready, you can probably go with XP. But if your work programs get updated, they might be Vista-only.

Going with the 2gb in case you need to add Vista later is smart.

Be sure to download ALL of the XP updates when you get it, too!

Get 2 gb regardless.

That way you won't have to buy more ram in 3-4 years when ur computer is so slow you wanna throw it out ur window.
