Oh yeah! Definitely!

Dulce Luna I agree with you on the passive agressive business.

Hi Fayte The text you quoted (from my quote and HSC's comments) represents the epitome of true male/female equality to me and I honestly find all of those words in their context quite delicious.
I agree in that it feels right to you and many women. If you find satisfaction in the role playing or being of follower /leader then do it if it makes you happy.
It is just is not my thing to follow or lead. And if one is following and one leading, it cannot(in my opinion) be equality. When the leader one day decides he or she does not approve of the follower, or the follower does not follow as directed, well things tend to go to hell in a handbasket after that.
I prefer a companion, and equal, not a boss or handler of me and I do not want to be mommy to some guy who needs someone to follow.

Fayte--I do not think anyone used the term "must" when discussing men and women as being leaders and followers in relationships, and I do not think anyone believes that is the way it "must" be. This is, to me, an important point of context and not simply a semantic difference. Modern feminists know that there are MANY permutations in relationships. This includes leading, following, and walking together. I feel that in healthy (hetero) relationships, sometimes the man leads, sometimes the woman leads, and sometimes they walk together, depending on the situation and the couple. But nobody implied anyone "must" be leading or following. And in relationships where one partner is more often the leader or follower, it is simply a way of being that is not inferior or superior, as long as it works for the two people involved.

Mirandee--Men and women can be friends and support each other without the women necessarily being part of a "fan club" of the man. What an unfeminist and offensive term to use

Melody--I will make the reservations. You really picked the right girl by the way, as I can make a mean Baked Alaska and I can fix the boat if it breaks down. And look super pretty doing both

Fayte--
I was typing before I saw your reply above. It sounds like some of the things we are saying are simmilar although I think of taking on different roles in relationships as flexibility and androgeny rather than role playing.

Fayte,

I have a marriage of equality that has endured for 2 mos. shy of 42 years. So I fully agree with what you said about equality in a relationship. It has sure worked well for both of us in our marriages hasn't it?

I agree. There does not have to be a leader and a follower. There may be some circumstances where he leads at that time then under other cicumstances I lead. So even leadership itself is shared.

edited because I just saw your last post as I posted.

I also agree with what you said to MM. Whatever makes the couple happy and works for them is fine. Some women like to lead. Some men too. Whatever works for others is fine with me. But that type of relationship would not work very well for me or my husband. Neither of us into power and control and that is how we would both see it.

Dee and Fayte, Dee said:
"There may be some circumstances where he leads at that time then under other cicumstances I lead."
This is exactly what was said in the quote and following comment that Fayte referenced that I said I liked. I think there is just a misunderstanding.

I will answer for HSC and save him lots of typing: (hehe)

Adrienne... great conversation, cool sweet treats, AND boat maintenance?!?!?! What's not to like? And all while remaining stylish in our "Heart-Shaped-Chicks" t-shirts.

My use of must was a bit over. But I do not go in for follower/leader. Supporting each other when one or other is down, or encouraging each other, but not leading or following.
Maybe we are mostly all saying the same thing just wording it different.
And Mirandee, I learned what was right for me but it took 2 prior marriages. In the first I was the usually the submissive follower, in the second usually the leader. I found out I do not like being either one. Two extremes and neither right for me. Both were heavy into the cutesy and often demeaning so called endearments, especially when they were
wanting to or were doing something I did not want to do too. I knew when the bullcrap cutesy baby talk or endearment slang started, trouble had already happened or was going to.

Just Call Me Joe
------Sinead O'Connor

(Black. Moon E.)

We came here across the great divide
Into the city, slander all eyes
We found a great love as we fell inside
They could not touch us as we'd go by
I've seen you the first time in Trogny's bar
But I'll see you later, we'll talk of black
We'll meet up for sure, oh will we not?
Away from all of the friends that you've got
Oh no, oh no
I said don't call me sir
just call me Joe
Don't call me lady
Just call me Joe
Don't call me mister
Oh, just call me Joe
Don't call me sweetheart
Just call me Joe
You wear the best clothes that I've ever seen
I've seen your light and your poetry
And it's the best thing that there's ever been
You're both the beauty and the beast
That's how it is and that's how it end
Into another city where you live far away
That's how it is and that's how it end
You've seen my face but you've never heard my name
Oh no, oh oh
I said don't call me sir
Oh, just call me Joe
Don't call me lady
Just call me Joe
Don't call me mister
Just call me Joe
Don't call me sweetheart
Just call me Joe

I agree with Fayte and Mirandee on the whole "Follow the Leader" business. I get bored and feel like I'm the only one who takes the relationship seriously when I'm leading all of the time, and I feel like a 2 year old if I'm following all of the time. For me personally, I either need equality or some regular role reversal from time to time.

Oh you said that so much better than I did! Exactly how I feel!
You have a very healthy attitude towards relationships!
We do not for example do gender assignment of things which need done. Either one of us and or both do cooking and plumbing etcetera. My only limitation is my being disabled which would be so even if I were male bodied.

I kind of skimmed through the posts earlier due to lack of time but now, due to lack of sleep, I read them more thoroughly.

I like the "Randee" suggestion for MM to use for my nickname, AG. You really connected with that one. My screen name, Mirandee, was the name of my beloved cat who died just before I came to LL. So I used her name in her memory. I always called her "Randee."

However, I also like "Dee" too. So the choice is yours, MM.
