The instructions I got were from here: http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/sore_throat.html The most pertinent point to make is that Cayenne can be a very hot pepper, so keep the dose at an 1/8 of a teaspoon or less. Once I figured out how small an amount that is [the first time] I never measured again. My pepper has a shaker-top, so a few shakes was fine. You can pretty much do as low a dose as you want. The site suggests gargling every 15 minutes, which doesn't work for me. I mean it works if you do it, but I don't like gargling that much. I did it the first time. It worked. But then I noticed that neither the taste, nor the spicyness was unbearable, so I just began sipping it. It was like cayenne tea. Not a great tasting concoction, but more agreeable to me than a throat lozenge. Plus it works, so it's fine. I learned on the site that someone put it in their coffee, and it still worked. So I tried it.  Worked! Tea? Same thing. Cold water? Why not? The only things that were slight annoyances were:
* Cayenne water steam made me cough. It's like inhaling pepper.
* The last couple swallows were always stronger than the rest. Not unbearable, but I did throw out the last little bit a few times.
* The longer it stands in liquid, the more it pollutes the taste of the liquid.
That's it. If you do put it in tea, I might suggest a decaffienated tea just because caffeinated tea dries out the throat. I put it in caffeinated tea, and it still worked, but my throat never got a chance to develop into something really uncomfortable. A worse throat might not fair as well. IP: Logged |

Happy B'Day Pixie!Love the pics of your little boy - looks a very gentle soul Love the mermaids too!! AG - had to laugh about the cayenne pepper...I put curry powder (which I guess is similar) in my guitar teacher's herbal tea when I was 12, because I hated him so much (my mother was daft enough to instruct me to make tea for him). Result: NO EFFECT. It must have tasted horrible, but he drained the cup. IP: Logged |
