Well I personally love long hair on men and see nothing girly about it. Few guys can do short hair with out looking like Zippy the pinhead or a red neck Bubba or someone too lazy do wash his hair and looks like he only needs only to use a wet wipe. Or a convict, or someone who shaves his head so he won't get lice from a skanky woman. Yeah some guys can do the short like Vin Deisel, but most look awful to me.

I think that BR was really just joking at least that's how I took it. I also didn't see this thread as an activist thread for Meterosexuals. Although at first I did think it was thread about people doing kinky things with parking meters. It's more the image thing that bothers me. The way I see it is even George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Johnny Depp would lose their appeal to women if on meeting them we discoverd they were egocentric jerks who lacked any depth. It could turn out that given the choice of Brad Pitt or Michael Moore a woman would choose Moore based on what kind of person each men are on coming to know them. I think it would be the same for men on meeting Angelina Jolie or any other actress of their liking. I just don't like it when corporations who want to make money on their products project onto society an image they want us to live by and live up to. Men or women. Problem is that none of these images foisted onto us by people just out to make a profit off of us do much to help people develop their self-worth. It always works the opposite when people find it an impossible image to live up to. It just ends up making those people feel more worthless. There's room in our society for all types of looks. That is the way it was designed to be. Actually, Xodian, none of us girls knew what to do with Ken which is why he was tossed in the corner. I used to put Barbies clothes on Ken. At that time they didn't have all the other female friends of Barbie that they do now. But maybe I was just ahead of my time. LOL In fairness to Xodian regarding the threads he mentioned. There was one recently and *raises hand* I stated on that thread about the guy in the picture that, " I don't like guys prettier than I am." But I was only joking. Sort of - because I do go for the more masculine look in a man when it comes to physical appeal. I actually like men with hair on their body. I think the caveman in the T.V. show and the commercials is cute.

Mirandee:LOL @ Kinky things with parking meters. well BR actually helped the situation out by actually saying "I am messing with ya" so its all good; Thus we move on. See, Mirandee that's the thing; Men like Jonny Depp and George Clooney are fine examples of how meterosexuals aren't all what they seem. Particularly George Clooney and the little pre-oscar jig he did with John Stewert. yet there is no denying George's Clooney's manliness. Your average Meterosexual does all the things that a regular guy does; He only just likes dressing up a bit more, or might take a little bit better care of his appearence. Other then that, count on him to talk sports, Chug an occasional beer, Drive a truck, Do home improvement stuff, You know; Any stereotype you can think of Lol! (Notice that most home improvement show hosts are meterosexuals LOL!) YFIS: Oh no denying there is Lol! But there is so much more fun is seeing both sides of a senerio and presenting the arguments for that. Or we end up with unwarrented accusition on behalf of both sexes Lol! IP: Logged |

I like a man in touch with both his masculine and feminine side.I like long hair on a man too. And I don't think there is anything wrong with men such as David Bowie or Captain Jack Sparrow wearing make-up. However, cross-dressing does nothing for me! I like a man who isn't too masculine or too feminine. A bit of both.....but all in all, I do like a man! IP: Logged |

Well, it's all opinions, in the end. But daring to stretch the secret and sacred vows of sisterhood ... women may have high expectations in their lives but often settle for less when it comes to relationships. Whatever the individual reasons, many do. That's not to say that men don't do the same. I'm sure they do. But the scale is tipped unevenly when it comes to appearances and taking care of your health. Or how many guys do you know whose Ideal woman doesn't bathe regularly, doesn't shave regularly, has perpetual bad hair, skin and some sort of BO, is overweight and/or out of shape, drinks regularly including binge drinking, refuses to eat healthy as it "requires too much effort to cook" and also dresses in clothes as flattering as a potato sack? And that's not even getting into personal at home living standards. I've yet to meet any. But when it comes to men, raising those same standards isn't welcome ... by many men. Glad to see things are changing, though. I'm sorry if some men feel put upon and discrimanted against when it comes to basic hygiene and self-care. Honestly, I think the over done "metrosexual" image is just a backlash from the grunge of the 90s. A decent middle ground would be nice ... so don't splurge on the guy-liner but do consider some Manly Lotion to turn that rough and dry face into a soft and inviting one. PS The idea that taking care of yourself and perhaps bothering to look nice on a regular basis must mean you're gay is absurd. You can't be "turned" gay no matter how many stereotypes are out there. Either you are or you aren't and whichever way you lean, you should still at least be clean. Handy dandy little slogan, eh? But it's the same when it comes to women sometimes. Heaven forbid a woman should lift weights or look too athletic. She must be a lesbian. Regardless that to actually have a "manly" body she'd have to be using steroids or something and be rather unhealthy. Personally, I find Classic Hollywood female celebs to be lovely ... skip past the modern waif look ... and on the other end of the scale, dancers or athletic type of women are also lovely. Just my opinions, of course. IP: Logged |

Geeky can be nice too, Evermore I think we all, men and women, here on this thread, agree on one thing - we like cleanliness and good grooming. A confession. I have always found it to be a total turn on to see a guy in jeans with no shirt on. For that reason I am happy they made it a law to only drive 25-30 MPH through road construction areas. I always did that but now I have a good excuse. I think you are right about that, AG. Meterosexual types probably don't call themselves by that term. Many of them probably didn't even know that society had now labeled them. What do they call old ladies who bleach their hair, wear a lot of make-up, dress like teenagers and wear a lot of leopard skinned things with high boots? Because I see some of those around here all the time. My husband always says they should move to Florida. LOL IP: Logged |

Definitely! The cleanliness bit! However "good grooming" depends on one's preferences. Some men do not mind the unshaven unwaxed woman. I have heard from many that.."geez! I wouldn't want to shave my body so why should women be forced to?" Other guys have commented that most men must unconsciously desire the pre-puberty little girls and want mature women to imiitate that look. quote: Or how many guys do you know whose Ideal woman doesn't bathe regularly, doesn't shave regularly, has perpetual bad hair, skin and some sort of BO, is overweight and/or out of shape, drinks regularly including binge drinking, refuses to eat healthy as it "requires too much effort to cook" and also dresses in clothes as flattering as a potato sack? And that's not even getting into personal at home living standards.
I have above bolded certain bits. Some people do not hold on to a stock idea of a perfect woman(or man for that matter) and do not equate the above "bolded"things as repulsive. Shaving...of course when wearing short dresses, to fit in with others. But not shaving does not make one dirty or ugly. It is all a matter of taste or not finding it an issue. Overweight/out of shape. While not an idea from a health point of view, a heavy person can be heal;thy and some men love the BBW! The out of shape/ie; disabled for example..not a ho ho munching slob.....can be accepted by a man who can see beyond the damaged body. continued next post.....------------------ "Heaven doesn't want me and Hell is afraid I'll take over and start a rehab for the damned!" ~Judgement Must Be Balanced With Compassion~ ~Do Not Seek Wealth From The Suffering, Or The Dire Needs Of Others~ ~Assumption Is The Bane Of Understanding~ ~ if you keep doing what you did, you'll keep getting what you got.~ Everything changes. As for wearing "clothes as flattering as a potato sack".....in public at fancy affairs, of course one should snaz up a bit. But generally I go for comfort not fashion, and prefer more of a monkish or Quaker look at home and even for every day public like grocery shopping. I dress very plainly. My hair is one area I do decorate with broaches etcetera. I play its 4 feet long up. It is not styled in the latest style, but it is neat and shiny, very long and clean! I have severe neurological damage in my shoulders that prevents bra wearing. So yeah..I do wear "clothes as flattering as a potato sack". Who am I out to impress? Fat/disabled or thinner and fit; I have Never had any troubles attracting intelligent men! Or sexy bodied ones! That has not helped some women to like me...as at parties their men flock to me! It is too funny watching fashion plate women get jealous over their men having a good time with "potato sack wearing", no makeup, nice smelling, (so I get told, perfumed or not oddly)old me. Or when single, hanging out with the stereotypical beautiful girls, the guys often went for me not them. I have been told I carry myself well and even have a regal bearing, no matter what I am wearing. I stand tall, I do not slump no matter what shape or size I am at the time. I make eye contact and never act like I am on the make. I make friends with men very easily. Not slobby ones either. Guys tell me they are very comfortable around me. quote:
Heaven forbid a woman should lift weights or look too athletic. She must be a lesbian. Regardless that to actually have a "manly" body she'd have to be using steroids or something and be rather unhealthy.
I used to be a power lifter. I was not on steroids. I am naturally gifted with higher testosterone levels than most women so build muscle easily. I did not need nor have I ever used steroids for body bulking. I was not unhealthy either. I appeared in ads way back for Gold's Gym and GNC. (General Nutrition Co.). I am also not a lesbian, to the disappointment of quite a few during my peak. I used to look alot like this, far from looking like a man!: Only with slightly wider shoulders and larger boobs, and 3 1/2 feet of auburn hair.I really detest stereotypes of what is considered attractive. It binds folks into forms and fashions unnatural to them and their habits or personalities. As long as one is clean, and neat and has a real personality all the rest is window dressing in my opinion. ------------------ "Heaven doesn't want me and Hell is afraid I'll take over and start a rehab for the damned!" ~Judgement Must Be Balanced With Compassion~ ~Do Not Seek Wealth From The Suffering, Or The Dire Needs Of Others~ ~Assumption Is The Bane Of Understanding~ ~ if you keep doing what you did, you'll keep getting what you got.~ Everything changes. Maybe I am an odd duck. I find a wide range of looks attractive. From The Rock or VinDeisel to Peter Falk, to Micheal Flatley, Jean Reno, Vincent Schiavelli, Stephen Rhea, Hugo Weaving, Albert Einstein, to even Marty Feldman if any of you remember him. I look for intelligence, personality, cleanliness...not for a fashion plate. I do not mind a fashion plate though, but if that is about all he has going for him...no way! I do not intend to leave any of you fellows off my good looking list, I have not seen any ugly guys here...you all have appeal! Hi, fayte. There's a reason I strung those together. Individually they don't have the same impact as an all-in-one deal. Which is why I didn't isolate them in the first place. As the the trend for the average American woman to be overweight or obese rises, I think many views are being challenged as far as that "perfect" body image goes. I think a healthy weight range for men and women is attractive, even if you're on the larger end of that scale ... and for many even over that weight line it doesn't affect their general good looks. Certainly that's preferrable, imo, to the emaciated look that has held sway for so long. And those BMI calculators that are so popular hardly if ever account for muscle mass anyway. Although I honestly think health trumps looks any day and it's not an easy subject to discuss for many people. Part of my point is that women are generally more tolerant and accepting of perceived (and, yes, stereotypical) physical flaws of men whereas the reverse isn't always true. Blame it on media or models or upbringing but there's a reason that a certain kind of image sells. I'm not defending it. However, I do see an irony in women being held up to impossibly high standards when it comes to their appearances when men can 'get away' with doing so much less. I'm not saying anyone has to live up to other's expections, high or low. No forced "perfection" here. Just commenting on the disparity of common expectations between the sexes. And my own personal preferences ... which generally have to do with basic cleanliness and the like. You can still be comfortable without looking like you just rolled out of bed after a very late night. Ironed or wrinkle free clothes, no stains or at least not noticeable ones, clothes that actually fits you while still being comfortable to wear, etc. I assure you I don't think "high fashion" is worth the cost or trouble ... unless you have some sort of grand affair to attend and want to/can afford to splurge. And though I do tend to write in a joking manner about a subject I find ironic, I do hope no one is offended. In fact, I think it's quite wonderful that we all have such varied tastes. Can you imagine if all the women only wanted one type of man and vice versa ... and if that one wo/man's image was bound by the ridiculously high "standards" only currently applied to women? Most men and women, myself included, would be out of luck. IP: Logged |

Eleanore No problem! Just pointing out my side. I do agree.... The stereotypes applied to men and women are unfair and unbalanced. A guy with grey hair is seen as dignified... A woman as old. A man's wrinkles are smile lines, A woman's are wrinkles. Yeah...it is not a balanced thing at all.------------------ "Heaven doesn't want me and Hell is afraid I'll take over and start a rehab for the damned!" ~Judgement Must Be Balanced With Compassion~ ~Do Not Seek Wealth From The Suffering, Or The Dire Needs Of Others~ ~Assumption Is The Bane Of Understanding~ ~ if you keep doing what you did, you'll keep getting what you got.~ Everything changes. BTW...I see it as not just a men holding women up to impossibly high standards.... oddly when I get insulted in real life or laughed at.... it is usually women doing the sniggering or insulting my hair, lack of make up or whatever. Men are usually pretty nice. I have heard women going on about oh dear how bad, or hee hee, or old or whatever so and so looks....and I think...man you plastic "ladies" are weird...so and so looks just fine to me! At least she looks the same no matter what time of day without having to spackle and paint and truss up her saggy bits. She is not offering up a fake package that will wear off at sunrise. And I am not talking of a frump or slob they were talking bad about in that particular instance, but a plainly dressed, neatly groomed un made up lady with a French twist hairdo. I thought her understated yet elegant and noble looking... they thought her old and frumpy. Heh heh, maybe they were jealous because she has a gorgeous husband and they were all with Mr. butt cracks and beer bellies or with no one. Good point and a very true one I think, Eleanore. Unfortunately, even very young girls know this to be true. quote: Part of my point is that women are generally more tolerant and accepting of perceived (and, yes, stereotypical) physical flaws of men whereas the reverse isn't always true. Blame it on media or models or upbringing but there's a reason that a certain kind of image sells. I'm not defending it. LOL at the Frasier link. That was one of my favorite shows. Watched it every week. Poor Maris. Always funny!!! My husband didn't care for it. He said they were snobs. I said yes, but they were snobs who always in some way got shot down. Mostly by their dad. Loved his character. And that out of place favorite chair of his. LOL I also think it's a good point that women are far more harsh on each other than men are on women. It's for that reason that I think most women dress, do their make-up and hair to please other women than they do to please men. Although I don't think that applies in the lingerie department. Women endure wedgies and painful bras just because their man likes it. LOL The way I see it, please yourself. It doesn't matter what others think about you if you accept, like and affirm yourself. Affirmation from others is always very nice to get and very much appreciated, but it should not be something we need, live for or even look for. Our self-worth should not be dependent on what others think about us in any way.

Heck no Mirandee, those old ladies should NOT move to Florida! That's WAY too close to where I live! lolFayte, I agree. Women are generally more cruel than men. Women like the ones you described usually end up with jackasses, I would say because they are shallow and superficial. I have no idea most women feel that they have to compete with eachother all of the time. They always insist on doing it in some mean, backstabbing way too. I guess they feel insecure. I only have one good female friend for basically that reason... I think it's even worse with the younger generation. IP: Logged | |
