Sorry to be so obsessive about this... but I know this story so well that in the theater I was mumbling, "hey, wait a minute she is supposed to be wearing red pants and a green sweater..."I was actually in civilization last night and went to see "The Mist" on opening night. I am going to avoid any spoilers, and I am hardly a movie guru... It was perfect, absolutely perfect... The monsters in the mist looked just like they always have in my mind's eye... Good character development (a little heavy handed, but that's a given, its only a 2 hour movie) And-oh holy wonders- it followed the book. Finally, someone knows how to write an SK screenplay!! YAY!! Until the end. I was NOT happy. I don't want to spoil it, but lets just say its NO WHERE near the story. I wish they would have left it alone. Can you say over the top? Anyone, if you have seen it.. what do you think? (Or am I the lone SK freak out here???) MK Oh yeah- happy turkey day! IP: Logged |

Hey MK I adore SK and most definitely am not a movie guru... but, the movies I have seen stink and won`t watch another one.Bool! The End. ------------------ ~ What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world is immortal"~ - George Eliot IP: Logged |

I liked it, until the end. I'm glad I saw it, but had I known how it ended, I'd have seriously considered not going. That ending would've been better as an "alternative end" on the DVD, IMO. In the movie itself, it just came off as stupid. They had done it well up until that point so that the impossible seemed believable, but that was so over the top that I was instantly transported out of the story back into the movie theater where it was all fake. Horror is stronger with hope, too, and that hope was--in an ironic way--destroyed, thus horror became meaningless and was simply madness. Though in the unlikely event should he recover to become functional after that, he should be a most interesting artist. Someone told me that Hitchcock was like that with his endings. If so, I'm glad I missed out on his stuff. IP: Logged |

Most movie reviewers are so pleased with the ending, it makes me a little nauseous. They rave about it, comparing it to Hitchcock.I agree with you, Dervish. I found the last 15 minutes of the movie lame, and it rather ruined it for me. Can't Hollywood just leave well enough alone? MK IP: Logged |

Oh, juni, its so nice to see you too!!!I remember just joining LL, and it seemed like you had been here for ever and ever!! Even if you think most of the SK adaptations are horrible (yes, they mostly are) and regardless of how much I have trashed the ending... you should see this one. Its amazing how true its stays to the novella, until the wretched end... MK IP: Logged |
