The temperature in Harbin reaches forty below zero, both Fahrenheit and centigrade, and stays below freezing nearly half the year. The city is actually further north than notoriously cold Vladivostok , Russia , just 300 miles away. So what does one do here every winter? Hold an outdoor festival, of course! Rather than suffer the cold, the residents of Harbin celebrate it, with an annual festival of snow and ice sculptures and competitions. ------------------ Sendin' love your way, "your friend in spirit"

Beautiful ice sculptures. The lighted ones are absolutely gorgeous. Some great talent there. However, sitting my butt down for a ride down a chute of solid ice in 40 below temps is not really my idea of a fun evening. Hard to believe that human beings can survive in those temps much less walk around in them looking at..what else?... ice. Okay, I'm cold just thinking about it. It's going down to 10 degrees above zero here tonight and that is balmy compared to what it has been all week. Definitely balmy compared to 40 below zero.

The thought that has this comfort temperature- yet- able to bear much physical discomfort.. Taurus flabbergasted is the amount of time it takes to create these frozen works of art. Working for weeks like that. And the end result is not a bridge or a tunnel, something utilitarian. But art and amusement. That is just bloody amazing! I have so much respect. AdmirationIP: Logged |

Cool, HD That should warm those people up while they sit there on those ice benches and snow watching the bonfire movie. Not sure if it will warm their butts though. IP: Logged |
