You can apply for the coupons here http://dtv2009.gov/ quote: Jan 31 2008 : Washington (DC) - Owners of analog TV sets can send off their application for a free converter box beginning tomorrow, to prepare for the digital switch over that happened in February 2009.Two coupons will be sent to each person who applies. Each one is worth $40 off a digital converter box. The devices, which are expected to cost around $60 each, will transform an analog signal to a digital one that will work with the new standards. No such device exists in the retail market now. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will open up for the program tomorrow. Consumers can apply via 1-888-DTV-2009, or online at DTV2009.gov. Stores are expected to begin selling the boxes in February. Accordingly, the government will start to mail out coupons on February 17, 2008. All major big box retailers including Best Buy, Circuit City, Target and Wal-Mart will sell the converter boxes.

This will sound paranoid, maybe because it is, but I have an issue with the government or "Big Brother" giving me anything having to do with my television. To go a little deeper into the paranoia, I don't have cable TV and I always felt uncomfortable with it. Air waves used to be free, but now we pay for someone to hook up our homes to a cable that we know nothing about. I guess I'm saying this because lately my telephone company has been giving away HDTV's to customers who are signing up for their cable service and combining it with their telephone and computer service. I keep thinking "Big Brother is giving out TV's that watch you while you watch it." Yes, this has paranoia all over it, I know, but I just can't help it. I've got some strong Neptune being triggered these days. Geo-uh...Anomymous. Yeah, that's the ticket, my name is Anonymous. (pay no attention to the name up in the corner) IP: Logged |

There is no free lunches in America they say hahaha..Heres another proof: Goto www.usa.gov see this free link also being offered in their website. The site is super secured because it is saving a computer certificate on your computer. So all your private information is secured. If you don't trust internet, call the 1-888 number instead.
This is genuine and I am not sure what the motives of government are in doing this. Perhaps analog is thing of the old. Perhaps this is imperative after september 11. The point is after feb 2009, if you do not have cable(or paid service) and have a analog TV then you will see snow on your television. So don't wait until then, make use of this converter that converts digital signals to analog. I think if you were receiving channels free such as ABC, etc and superbowl haha, then you will continue to get those after installing the box.
But the TV stations themselves will relay after Feb 17th 2008 and you have to wait till then to hook up your box. Heres a quiz to see if you need this converter. http://www.dtvtransition.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=39

"Counting up sleepers, just how do we do it? Really quite simple, there's nothing much to it. On a mountain halfway between Reno and Rome, we have a machine in a plexiglass dome, that listens and looks into everyone's home. And whenever it sees a new sleeper go flop, it jiggles and lets a new biggle ball drop. Our chap counts these balls as they plup in a cup. And that's how we know who is down and who's up."- Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book IP: Logged |

>>>Part of my February annual bonus is going for a new TV but I don't know if they're all digital now or still selling analog..... Zala,
All electronic retail stores have stopped selling Analog tvs. Why should they because of the government mandate? They do sell Digitial TV and HDTV's. If you are living in a good reception area then HDTV optionally comes with its own antenna/tuner, so you don't require to pay for channels such as ABC etc as its free too. I am using cable service so not affected by this government mandate, but thought of fellow Americans who may be in need. So start spreading the message.

I was reading the other day about how many millions upon millions of units [comp + TV] trashed are actually exported [reclaimed they call it] by third world countries. The gold on the mother boards etc. They showed a photo of this guy in Guiana- his head obscured with the smoke of heavy metals and dioxins -a truly toxic cocktail. The shielding must be melted down on the wires before he can re-sell to feed the kids. Here is hoping that the converters which I see are supposed to retail for 50-70$ are a viable option to low rent middle America like meself...

The real truth is, the fact that I'm on a computer hooked up to some kind of broadband service means that if Big Brother wants to find me, he already knows where I am. I'm one of those people who purposely didn't get a web cam for my computer because I don't want anyone watching me. Just when I think the camera is off, it's probably really on, watching my every move...because I'm so interesting. Yes, I truly am a 12th house Sun, I just want to stay hidden and I don't want them to stop broadcasting TV and Radio waves through the air just to start broadcasting from Satellites. But then again, I'm a kind of a hypocrit because I'm almost seduced into getting a Satellite card for my computer so I can get internet anywhere. I'm like those kids who run around New York City with their laptops, gaming and searching for unsecured wireless to get people's credit card information. I DON'T DO THAT, but I kinda run real fast with my laptop open, not in the case, transfering trains like a wild person. This way, if I have a satellite card, I don't have to worry about signing into strange wireless accounts at various coffee shops, etc. Now I'm rambling because I'm tired. Oh, I'll be deleting this post tomorrow in a pathetic attempt to get Big Brother not to read this post. Good night everybody, don't let Big Brother get you. Oh, and goodnight to you, too, Big Brother, don't work to hard. Geocosm - oh, uh - Anonymousnositiousness ------------------ "Everybody is a star!" Sly & The Family Stone IP: Logged |
