You dont want to become a fundamentalist for love, LTT.You cant "grab" people into seeing. Hugs work much better.

That's a nice link Lexx If you look at ape societies, they are almost constantly touching eachother. I think in our modern society we don't get the right amount of touching that we need. Touching now is seen as "sexual," or even as "harassment." Of course there is good touching and bad touching, but I feel that hugs and other forms of touching has been stigmatized, especially for adult males. Just another form of the cultural alientation we are now experiencing in this post modern society is the physical alienation from eachother. I know what my keyboard feels like, quite well. Right on BlueRoamer, and I think the problems in our society often begin from birth. IP: Logged |

Thank you BlueRoamer! Yes, people are touch starved! I am in the habit of giving strangers hugs. I very very rarely get refused. People pour out to me when I do that. But yes, too often people take it as a sexual advance. I always ask parents permission if it is a child. Touch is so important! L------------------ "Still out looking for Schrödinger's cat........." That is really sweet Lexx.In my work I would like to give a lot of hugs out, but so many of the people I work with are molested/abused, that it becomes a lot more complicated. Btw I wasn't accusing anyone in particular of being fake. I was speaking in a broad stroke about diplomacy in general. Diplomacy does have it's place, but I feel that American culture, in general, places too much emphasis on politeness, and can often become fake and lacking in any real depth or feeling.
Imagine a world in which we all talked to each other with the "customer service telephone voice" Fake smiles and "buh bye" abound. IP: Logged |

Xena, would you consider a different Forum? And fieryscales, you haven't been here long, but I like the idea of you moderating after you have been around a little longer. ------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things."
