Remember when it was just the Grinch who stole Christmas?? Sought: Wal-Mart shoppers who trampled NY worker NEW YORK – Police were reviewing video from surveillance cameras in an attempt to identify who trampled to death a Wal-Mart worker after a crowd of post-Thanksgiving shoppers burst through the doors at a suburban store and knocked him down.
Criminal charges were possible, but identifying individual shoppers in Friday's video may prove difficult, said Detective Lt. Michael Fleming, a Nassau County police spokesman. Other workers were trampled as they tried to rescue the man, and customers stepped over him and became irate when officials said the store was closing because of the death, police and witnesses said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081129/ap_on_re_us/wal_mart_death
Fatal shooting followed toy store PALM DESERT, Calif. — The shooting occurred in a crowded toy store on the traditional start of the holiday shopping season, but authorities say it wasn't related to the bargain-hunting frenzy. Instead, two men pulled guns and killed each other after the women with them erupted into a bloody brawl, witnesses said. Authorities released few details about the mayhem that broke out at the Toys "R" Us store around 11:30 a.m. Friday, sending scared shoppers fleeing. Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez said the fight was not over a toy and that handguns were found by the men's bodies. He refused to say whether the shooting was gang-related. (while not related, it sure stole the holiday season for the witness`s )

What has gone so wrong with some peoples' values in this country?? A human being was KILLED by a mob, and all the mob can think about is their anger at being prevented from saving a few bucks that day??So sad. Perhaps WalMart and other stores need to take steps to regulate the flow of shoppers coming in the door for sales like yesterday's, in order to protect their employees from a public gone temporarily insane..... It is heartbreaking to see the greed of people today. It does not just happen at Walmart and it does not just happen at Christmas. I remember working at a biotech company and seeing the people load their plates up on Pizza day.. there was NO WAY they would eat 9 slices, but they just wanted it to have it. Same with everything.. People want and want.. they will do anything to get it, even at the expense of another's life. I wonder how that man felt as he was trampled, or the woman that lost her baby inside her womb.. For the former, he was doing his job, I am not sure about the latter (I didn't see an accurate article about it yet). Regardless... I never shop during these days. I can't stand seeing people act like animals. I see it enough, I am exposed to it enough watching our Soldiers go to war and what happens to them down there. To think that people here (meaning the US) act like freaking animals to get to a damn sale makes me sick. It is not like they are going to a bread line in order to get food to feed their families.. they are just stuffing their lust for material faces!...Blech!!! IP: Logged |

The name black friday just about sums it up.It's hard to have faith in humanity when you read about things like this. He was only 34 years old. Apparently an 8 month pregnant woman was also injured and sent to the hospital when this happened. I'm heartbroken for his family. What a pointless and senseless thing to happen. IP: Logged |

zenwarner, you're right. The name Black Friday always gave me the creeps anyway. Sounds so ominous. God it just disgusts me when I read about this kind of stuff. So much suffering all over the world, and here people are mashing others to save a few bucks... People ought to be ashamed of themselves! I can't believe this kind of stuff is happening, it makes me ill!

I just realized that I left a smiley face in my last post. Obviously it doesn't echo my post or current sentiment. IP: Logged |

It's easy to forget to change the smilie. I've done it too. Not this time because you've reminded me... I don't get this story. How can people forget themselves this much? But then the selfishness and heartlessness that occasionally surfaces in (a minority of) people can be breathtaking.

I heard about this the other day (the trampling). quote: Other workers were trampled as they tried to rescue the man, and customers stepped over him and became irate when officials said the store was closing because of the death, police and witnesses said.
Unbelievable. IP: Logged |

Walmart should be handing out vouchers to people waiting on the line before the store opens. That's how a lot of stores avoid this sort of thing.IP: Logged |

I read about this a few days ago... so fckin lame. There's at least one story every holiday season about someone getting trampled to death. It's saddening. This is why I stay home on Black Friday.IP: Logged |

I don't even know why anyone goes out there to shop anymore for the holidays personally. I do all of my shopping online - because the crowds p*ss me off and it's impossible to find anything amidst the stupidity. IP: Logged |
