I have always wondered. why are some houses bigger than others. like my 12th house is big, so big, very big, no planets, 4th house regular, 3 planets, 5th house normal size 3 planets. why the big wide houses. shouldn't they all be the same size? I feel like I should know the answer to this.

Oh my god, it's SO funny that you ask this! I keep wondering the same thing...I find it really odd, and annoying during synastry. One tiny house right next to this ridiculous mansion-sized empty one right next to it...what's up with that?!Good question, Sunshine_lion IP: Logged |

It isn't if you do an Equal House chart. The houses are unequal on Placidus (and other systems). I prefer this as it makes more sense based on what I see outside of the window.

Interesting. Is it the same way with Koch? I do prefer that way, but I will try the Equal (duh, I guess it would 'equal' out the houses...silly me ) IP: Logged |

What the hell? I just did the Equal chart and now my Pluto and Mercury are there with my sun in the 5th. That definitely changes a lot (but oddly makes more sense). IP: Logged |

Its due to the curvature of the Earth. The Placidus method accounts for this curve. The further toward the poles one goes, the more extreme the house variations. Many astrologers believe the Earth's curvature doesn't make a difference (or at least not as defined by Placidus) and thus they maintain the Equal house system. Create and compare Placidus charts in cities like Anchorage, Alaska, and Mexico City, Mexico, and you'll see the effect. IP: Logged |

Well, I don't know, but it's looking like a lot's changed here. My Saturn just moved from the 3rd to the 2nd. My NN is now in the 8th. My Jupiter is in the 9th. It's like a new person. How do you deal with this stuff? Is there a more 'accurate' system? IP: Logged |

My favorite authors prefer the Koch system for predictive work, I use the placidus system. Equal works fine too. That is the wonderful yet disturbingly odd thing about astrology. It always somehow works. For a test try doing a solar chart. I love those. They always (!!!) echo what you find in your natal. For example in my natal I have pluto in 1= in solar ruler of 8th in 1st in natal the ruler of 4 in 10 =solar moon in 10,etc. IP: Logged |

I don't know where Glaucus is but I think I remember him saying somewhere that he prefers to not use any houses. I could be wrong....IP: Logged |

No houses? That's some old-school thinking, as the Houses are a relatively newer concept (discovery?) in the long history of astrology. I can't support a non-house method. Does he still believe in an Asc/Dsc or MC/IC?!?IP: Logged |

I can't imagine not using houses. I feel it totally colors the personality and gives strong clues. In looking at my ex-husband's chart in Equal, the houses placement makes soooo much more sense now. And I definitely associate more with my Mercury in the 5th, and even a bit with my Pluto in there too.

Well, the houses are not a really new concept.Personally I think house system is very important, but yes, there are schools, and not necessarily old schools, who work without it or with different house systems for different areas of life. I myself have tried out Equal system, but ended up with Placidus again. Koch doesn`t really make sense to me. I also read several articles that stated Koch`s calculations of the middle cusps were wrong, but honestly, I didn`t understand enough of the mathematic and astronomy to really have an opinion on this one. Theoretically, Equal makes the most sense to me actually. Practically, Placidus seems to work best. IP: Logged |

My personal preference is equal, but I'm not terribly good at interpreting. Which brings up another question-- I've been studying astrology for 24 years and I still can't really do it. What's up with that? Will it all just click for me one day?It seems to me that there are so many possible ways to read each placement/aspect. And I never know how to determine which piece of the puzzle is affecting the other, and so on... And don't even get me started on the 500 asteroids. I get dizzy just looking at those charts! I hope I'm not interrupting-- the topic is silly question of the day, and this is mine. (By accident. It occurred to me after responding the the original question. Somehow, this felt like the place to ask????) Anyway... hope that's okay. IP: Logged |

Sorry to keep you waiting-- My Saturn is in Leo in the 8th and opposes my Venus and squares Uranus and Jupiter. Virgo is the sign on the cusp of my 10th house. People often mistake me for Virgo, online and in person. Otherwise, I have no other Virgo placements. Thanks, Praecipua. IP: Logged |
