Minerva is the Roman Goddess of Wisdom and inventor of Music, among other things.

We the undersigned, concerned citizens and supporters of the Green-Wood Cemetery, call upon Mayor Michael Bloomberg; Borough President Marty Markowitz; Amanda Burden, Director of City Planning Commission; the members of the City Planning Commission; Regina Myer, Director of Brooklyn Borough Planning Office; Joseph Longobardi, Chair of Community Board 7; City Council Members; New York State Legislators and Congressional Members to support us in our efforts to "SAVE THE VISTA" from the Green-Wood Cemetery's Battle Hill Monument of Minerva saluting the Statue of Liberty in the harbor, commemorated in1920 to mark the first battle of the War of Independence on August 27, 1776.

This undoubtedly is the most unique historic VISTA in our nation because it captures in time and place that fateful day when the future of our young nation hung in the balance.

We respectively request the expeditious enactment of a new zoning resolution under Article X; Special Purpose Districts, Chapter 2; Special Scenic View Districts for the protection and preservation of the VISTA from the Altar to Liberty, Battle Hill, The Green-Wood Cemetery to the Statue of Liberty down 23rd Street along the Brooklyn, NY waterfront.
