Ehhhh

I prefer Chicago as far as musicals go.

I never saw Hancock.

Hancock
not a musical...it's partly about immortals.
Hair Spray
Freaky seeing Christopher Walken as Wilbur Turnblad and John Travolta....as Edna Turnblad
Mama Mia
Cute story..lots of ABBA and sexy guys of all ages.

PS. I do not like many musicals.
However.....
JCS 2000 was great.
Phantom too.

I loved Hancock

I have yet to see Mama Mia (oh wait...she's here LOL)
But I love ABBA.
Did you see Muriel's Wedding, by chance? It's awesome, huge ABBA theme. I loved it

Muriel's Wedding?
Not yet.
It is called a "dark comedy" so I might enjoy it.
Hancock really surprised me with its novel approach to "super heroes".

Oooh, LEXX, Muriel's Wedding is so awesome, it's one of my favorites. Dark comedy...in a way, yes. Kind of coming-of-age. Funny and yet also sad, but also very uplifting. I really loved it. The ABBA theme is like an escape for the main character...she goes into her ABBA world and it makes everything more bearable.

I was surprised about Hancock too! I love the way they took the comic stuff to that level. Almost archetypal. I dig that

Yeah, I think Muriel's Wedding is more coming of age, than dark. Funny movie. Being an Abba fan it appeals there.

My mom LOVES Mama Mia! I guess she saw it like 7 times in the theater. She got it on DVD twice for Christmas.

I still haven't seen it. Haven't seen the other ones you mentioned either.

I love Mama mia, my daughter and my mom love it, got the CD for my birthday, although it makes me emotional and in my opinion is not the best soundtrack.

OK...was the soundtrack from the movie OR from a stage production? Soundtracks are not always from the movie versions.
I have a "Phantom" soundtrack that is just awful.
It is not the movie soundtrack of the music.
OK.........
My take on the movie version!
The soundtrack IS THE STORY!
They actually built the story around ABBA songs! No ABBA music, not much of a story.
The ABBA members were born in 1945 (2 of them), 1946, and 1950. It explains alot of their lyrics about love and lost, regrets, and finding renewal and love again in one's middle age years.
Most of the songs are not from a young person's view point of life and experience.
Like Tanya with Pepper...that works well with the older woman, much younger man scene.
All the ABBA songs Meryl did were fitting for
a woman her age, remembering, hoping for more...same for Pierce Brosan.
It worked very well in my opinion!
