Typical bloke.

My brother has nice hair. Curly. What a waste, I always used to think.

Then he married a hairdresser.

She says she always looks at people's hair first.

Mmm.

I'm de-railing the thread. What about a neat link between hair, and say, sport. Here's that European Cup 1982 shot again.

Back to the boy chat on bongs and bongos.

Ok, so I do have something to complain about.

My improv teacher started this season out by watching an improv group that regularly performs. She thought that our group does better at it, so she was encouraged. She got the idea in her head that she'd like the troupe to have a name other than the one we've been using.

She decided to solicit names for our troupe on our yahoo message board, and she got a decent response. There were a number of good ideas in there including some from me. By and large most of the ideas were dismissed. She mentioned that she'll have to research if anyone is using the names we come up with and so forth, so those that got cut would naturally assume that it wasn't a commentary on the idea, but a mere matter of practicality. I thought that was why so many were missing when she laid out her first poll.

So we went through a couple poorly executed polls. "Poorly executed" mostly because everyone wasn't voting, and obviously a lot of names didn't even make it to the polls to begin with. Then last night at our practice we did a final vote on the remaining choices:

Misfit Wit
A Few Fries Short
Suburban Hysteria
Wicked Wits of the West
Twisted Gray Matter

Clearly not the best of the suggestions available. Which one won?

Wicked Wits of the West

Second place by one vote:

Suburban Hysteria

After the results were tallied she said that she has an artist friend, and if we have ideas for the logo we should go ahead and voice those as well.

....

....

Um...a play on words that invokes the Wizard of Oz, and we're supposed to have logo ideas? Do witches go with Improv theater?

So how about a Western theme since it's "Of the West"? Do cowboys invoke thoughts of Improv comedy? So it was suggested that maybe we try to create logos for both.

One of our members who is a retired, but still practicing psychologist (or maybe psychiatrist) mentioned that she gets a "Desperate Housewives" feeling from Suburban Hysteria? I see her point. There's "hysterical" laughter, and things can be "hysterically" funny stuff, but "hysteria" is often used as a synonym for crazy in a bad way, and Desperate Housewives have the same kind of depraved connotation.

I'm not happy.

I didn't vote for either of the top names. I voted for Twisted Gray Matter even though there's a good chance someone may be using it somewhere in comedy. How tough would that logo be? A gray brain with atom circles around it like the game Cranium.

Actually, I guess they don't have atoms or whatever in orbit around the brain, but... piece of cake logo, right?

So...I guess this is an awesome lesson in rule by committee.

Names that went nowhere:

[Removed]

The asterisked ones are Dave's, and I guess I pointed them out, because I thought he had some decent ideas. There are other decent one-off ideas throughout.

My favorite of mine are probably:

Improgeny (which definitely isn't being used, and which definitely gives a sense of Improv, [a sense of] a group of people, and a [sense of a] creative product)

A Wit In Time Saves Nine would probably make a better show name, but I still think it brilliantly conveys improv.

Laughsided

I think my Suburban Candy easily beats the Deviants and Hysteria. It's sweeter, more pleasurable.

______________

So from this list we got two kind of sub-par finalists. Amazing.

Suburban Hysteria...I'm not liking it personally.
There are some much better ones on the second list.

San Ramoni N' Cheese

Ok...stepping away from the boyz club....

Acoustic my man, I sympathize. Goes back to the very idea where a nice wonderful chick would actually consider calling our pecker "Princess Sophia" because its just "tooo cuttee!" Gah!That word... Cute... It has its moments but overall, its still stings Lol!

I got one for you guys...

"The Devil Will Cry." Ohhhh yeah!

Anyway, posted this on my little blog but gonna share it with you guys as well:

quote:
With all this talk of creativity and the oh so proverbial "thinking outside the box" catch phrase that is oh so popular with the head honchos of the business world, I am actually amazed and appauled at the same time as to how one way street prone people actually are. Then again, the greater half of the population out there so comfortable with consistency that the light of wisdom and for the matter, common sense never seem to be one of those things that needs to be avoided.

"Ze Sense of Commons! Itz Burnszzz!"

Case and point: The Latest craze with small sized furniture for Bars and Clubs.

Anicdote time!

So yesterday me and Liren FINALLY got a chance to break off from our self-forged chains of our careers and decided to have a simple movie night out with friends. Safe to say, we could have done away with friends all the more since they can't seem to leave us be with ourselves for 15 FREAKIN MINS! Gosh guys! We need our time togather...

Just for those who are interested: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is... Meh. Ok, so Lucian and Sonja's relationship kinda plucked away at my heart strings. Much like a gothic version of Romeo and Juliet only Romeo ain't some pansy little Emo and Juliet can kick some major caboose. Viktor's castle is just way too glum! Unless Gothic architecture has taken an even deeper macabre twist that history is totally unaware of.

But anyway, once we were done with the movie, we all decided to hit the new night lounge downtown. Well as far as first impressions go about the overall design, I gotta say I was quite taken back. It has the perfect blend of neo-age with a classic warmth to it.

Side note: Liren's style tips are rubbing off on me. How many female bartender compliments circle around the phrase "Brooding good looks with a vampire twist." Not the one to get complimented and tell but that one kinda stuck with me the entire night considering the movie we all watched. Well even though the bartender was cute, Liren is just way too hot Lol! So no contest there.

So, nice design, nice atmosphere and a nice looking female bartender. What could I possibly be ranting about on this note you ask?

The lounge furniture itself... Somehow, Neo-age designers think that looks and ergonomics don't go togather. I am a borderline 6 ft. being and considering the greater half of the Canadian population, that falls within the average height demographic. I swear there is something in the water. Anyway, to think that keeping that in mind, lounges (or especially nice newly made lounges) would atleast get seatings and decore that can allow a tall athletic type to get comfortable in but I guess that senerio just escape their minds. Bet they were just too busy thinking of paint schemes... Just to give you an idea as to how dinky these lounge chairs are:
http://i39.tinypic.com/2vk1f5t.jpg

Yeah, even Liren had a good chuckle over that one. And yes I am the guy who orders Orange Juice in Bars. Hey, don't feel sympathetic towards me: I LOVE being a Muslim! Especially when I am the only one who gets to walk home without being the idiot on the sidewalk stopping random strangers and telling them an slurred on anicdote on how I work for Boeing. And I don't stink either by the end of the night.

To the point at hand: Design consultants... Please do a little more research on your possible cutomer demographic before choosing furniture... Its not too much to ask...

Rant over.

No resolution to the logo dilemma yet. I managed to keep myself from saying what I thought of the process.

The professional psychologist who suggested that Suburban Hysteria sounded like Desperate Housewives (and I) were told that Improv Teacher thinks we are all clinically crazy (in defense of her title). Psychologist said, "Speak for yourself, sweetheart."

I want a do-over.

I'll probably removed the bulk of my posts above soon. Although I'll save the names for myself. I wouldn't be surprised to find myself leading an improv group at some point.

Alright, I've edited now. I guess I'll leave enough up that the posts that followed mine will make sense.
