I imagine my pets are always saying "Feed me, Woman!!" and then after "you may pet me now."I'd be interested to hear other people's opinions on whether animals have emotions. I spent a long time studying animals, turning several types of wild animals into pets, and learned that each species I've encountered have different noises or behaviors to express rudimentary emotions: affection, happiness, fear, warning, the desire to mate. I adopted a dog last year that turned out to be deaf and I can tell by what he's looking at or touches his nose to what he wants, then he looks at me and he can tell by the expression on my face whether I'm in favor of giving him what he wants or not. It's kind of cool. IP: Logged |

Oh definitely, I had 4 baby pet squirrels for a little over a week when I was little lol. When we found them they were living in my garage and when I told my dad he grabbed them and put them in a box. We fed them everyday with rice and milk and they recognized us! When we went out to play, they would as well (all 6 of us were running around in the backyard LOL). On one of the last days before my dad released them to a park, my older brother accidentally killed one of the squirrels, and the remaining 3 no longer wanted to play. Honestly, they were mourning. ------------------ "Play it f*ckin' loud!" — Bob Dylan IP: Logged |

i'd be curious to know what my rats are saying. one is probably saying all the time "pet me pet me pet me pet me... yummy stuff yummy stuff yummy stuff... play play play play... is that food?" the other one is saying "leave me leave me leave me leave me... give me that food but don't touch me. but play with me play play play... ok now you can pet me. give me that food" rats are pretty intelligent still. they are so communicative. Rats can learn complex maze patterns rather quickly. They are the puzzle solvers of the animal kingdom, along with squirrels (who are nothing more than rodents with fluffy tails) who will always find a way to get into bird feeders.IP: Logged |

Sometimes the duckies miss some bread, and then the squirrels get leftovers.IP: Logged |

have you seen Sugar Bush? ok, to be honest it's slightly cruel to dress up and pose the poor guy (gal?), but too cute to argue... it may as well mean that it doesn't really mind, because it does pose and stay still for it.IP: Logged |

i'm thinking, if the use of hands was crucial to the evolution, rodents would be the second in the hierarchy after the apes, no?IP: Logged |

Interesting. We do share the most DNA with both apes and rodents.IP: Logged |
