Hey, HSC.I'm just wondering about this in particular (the bold is what I am emphasizing): quote: I'm sure it looks that way from inside your echo-chamber, T.But almost every one of my friends who I have spoken to about this thinks you are. (And a Child of God.) Here is what one amazing woman I know had to say in an email to me earlier today...
Did you reprimand your friends for having passed this judgment as passionately as you have reprimanded others for their cruelty here on this thread? I hope so. And why did you have to add the "(And a Child of God.)" part? Is it because you think it negates the damage done to your point by the indirect insult? If someone insults you and then says, "And you're a Child of God", they still insulted you. I was speaking to someone tonight about Matthew 7:1-6 and I think it fares well here: quote: Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
Thinking on this conversation, I came here and was inspired to reply. I think that your point is valid (and it seems that many here think this also), it has every right to be spoken and I can see why you have brought it up. I also think that you are often a bit erratic when walking your path and that you often cross the line. Many of us do. The way I see it, there is nothing wrong with being an idealist-dreamer. But even the dreamer must walk the dream's line. A dreamer has to live in the dream (in respect to life). Otherwise, the dream is shattered. You brought your wisdom, your perspective, your feelings into this thread. This was not a thread meant to discuss this issue but that's not the real problem, anyhow. The problem was how people here reacted to your opinions, right? Of course, you didn't really bring your opinions in with an exemplary dose of your own medicine: quote: As far as "guilty" pleasures go, its far more innocent than promoting b!tchy websites that reward paparazzi for invading people's private lives, and focussing on their flaws, imho. -HSC
"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." There is a specific order to these things. You know you are a hypocrite. As much or more or less than any other. The quantity doesn't matter. You are a hypocrite and you try to midwife a truth to others here (that weren't even expecting) with a holier-than-thou position but you don't have much success. Then, it seems that your lack of success upsets you. Perhaps you should take heed: "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you." I am sure that I bring nothing new for you to consider. I only wished to respond. I do not wish to fan the flames of this argument. I simply believe that it was my responsibility to bring another variable into this discussion. And to everyone reading: I am in no way trying to suggest that you are all dogs or swine. I hope that we can all stick to the message of the Word. Doog night, IP: Logged |

Hi NosiS, It is one thing to cruelly ridicule people for the way they look or dress...
..and to take part in, contribute to, and encourage this abuse. (This is an instance of Unprovoked Cruelty.) It is another thing to admonish someone for being cruel... It is yet another thing to frankly discuss someone's cruelty with a friend... And yet another thing to correct a cruel detractor by informing her of this discussion. 26T was making the claim that only a few people think she is an a$$hole, in order to justify her faith in the probability that I am more of an a$$hole than her. (Mind you, I never said that she was one, and I'm not sure why she brought it up again, but okay..) This was more than a claim.. it was an argument. And I am proud of her for coming up with it. I responded, as I must, with a counter-argument. I informed her that, on the contrary, in some circles, she is held in the same esteem that I am held in by the people she encourages. (To say nothing of the justifications for the estimation.) I may reply more to you, later. I hope that helps some. [edited to add:
It is another thing to contribute to the stalking of celebrities by paparazzi. And another thing to admonish someone for contributing to this. ... or to firmly inform them that they are contributing to this.]

Oh, and my friends did not use that language. My mistake. I didnt mean to imply that. This particular friend thought her behavior "rude and remedial". Was it a judgement? Well, she had an argument, and her argument was that the behavior was unprovokedly cruel. She would not have made a "judgement", I think, if the crime were not cruelty. Unprovoked Cruelty. Also, the language in question is not allowable on the thread when it is issued as a direct insult, and it is an example of others crossing a line which I have not crossed in this discussion. So, if you must address yourself to anyone on this matter, I would refer you to snowhawk and writesomething. In any altercation, always begin by correcting the worst offenders. That's what I say. godspeed hsc

This is the most profound and beautiful thing I think I've ever heard you say.
I mean that sincerely. And I live that every day of my life. quote: I was speaking to someone tonight about Matthew 7:1-6... "judge not, lest ye"... You know you are a hypocrite.
Is that your opinion? Or a truth? Or a judgement? Are you also a hypocrite? And do you know it? Help me to understand. Do you reprimand yourself for this, as you do me?
quote: ..."guilty" pleasures...
It is my position that this thread and the ideology it supports are ultimately cruel. If you are comparing this to my self-medicating with marijuana... I think you need help distinguishing between beams and motes.
quote: I do not wish to fan the flames of this argument.
I understand. Thank you for throwing another log on, though. Kindling is fine, but I love a thick block like this. I hope you don't mind that I responded. Good night

I meant to mention a couple of times before where HSC twisted words but left it alone. Here's one instance that's bothering me: quote: 26T was making claim that only a few people think she is an a$$hole
HSC, You said this the same way when you mentioned your friends thinking it earlier. a "FEW" I never said FEW HSC. I said a "couple" and even italicized it. Dont think I didnt notice you changing that the first time. Nice try though. And actually besides you, I dont know anyone else who thinks I'm an a-hole. *edit: Your friends don't count. IP: Logged |

Not true HSC. I was merely playing off that line/quote that we've all heard: "Jesus loves me! And everyone else thinks youre an as$hole." Wanting to point out that, no, not many people except you do. I wasnt trying to have an a-hole contest with you HSC. IP: Logged |

are you serious, T?a couple.. a few 2... or 3 You quibble over a straw. And ignore the stake. How about everything else I said? The best you can do is take issue with a minor misquotation? And the point I made stands. All the points I made. I can't tell you how many times you have twisted and misrepresented my words, not accidentally, in some insignificant way, but intentionally, in cruel and defaming ways. What more can I say? I've heard of the joke, but it was hardly an obvious allusion, the way your post was worded. And it's kind of upsetting, isn't it? Just another way to call me an a$$hole. Thank you for making that clearer.

Yes. And you were mistaken, as my response clearly illuminated. Do you have a response to my response?
quote: I wasnt trying to have an a-hole contest with you HSC.
Right.
