The contest is between Rourke & Penn, between the chameleonic and the apotheosis performance says the author of http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/02/05/DDQO15G3T3.DTL Answering the why? lingering in my brain about why Morgan was robbed, why Gwyneth got a gong for managing to wear a fake moustache and speak in an English accent at the same time, etc.

Wow! I actually got that paper, and I seldom buy the paper.I don't know what you mean by your last line. I assume Morgan is Morgan Freeman, and that Gwyneth is Gwyneth Paltrow, but I'm not sure the roles you're referring to. I tought Gwyn was great as a brit years ago in Sliding Doors. It's still one of my favorite romantic comedies. EDIT: I just realized it must be a reference to something in the article. That would make sense. I seem to remember a mention of Morgan Freeman in his Shawshank Redemption role being an apotheosis role. I still haven't looked that word up. IP: Logged |

I'm thinking bm may have a little something going on for Morgan Freeman. Just, ummm, reading between the lines. If you want Oscar robbing - don't look any further than Russell Crowe to Denzel Washington. Rusty, despite his off-screen antics, well deserved to win for A Beautiful Mind. That said - it all comes down to opinion. It's a matter of which opinions add up the most numbers. IP: Logged |

Morgan sends shivers down my back. Every year I get irate about an Oscar choice. This article handily explains why. Gwyneth Paltrow ~ Shakespeare in Love wtf! Morgan Freeman ~ Shawshank Redemption robbed! travesty! According to Wikipedia: quote:
Apotheosis in music refers to the appearance of a theme in grand or exalted form. It represents the musical equivalent of the apotheosis genre in visual art, especially where the theme is connected in some way with historical persons or dramatic characters. When crowning the end of a large-scale work the apotheosis functions as a peroration, following an analogy with the art of rhetoric.

" Excellent, I think this is what Jerzy Grotowski was referring to in his book "Towards a Poor Theatre". I studied drama several years and I find that it is more difficult to do an apotheosis performance than a chamaleonic one. But, I'm not saying one should be more appreciated than the other. Thanks for looking that up. I took it to mean that the actor's personality melds so seamlessly with the character's that the integrity of the character is increased as a result of this relationship with the actor. Is that convoluted?IP: Logged |

Actually, this description is very method. This is Chameleonic. Apotheosis acting is like being larger than life. Creating a much more emphasized, powerful character. Whereas chameleonic is more like emboding, or slipping into the skin of the character. Do you know what i mean? IP: Logged |
