"You Give Love A Bad Name"

Shot through the heart
And you're to blame
You give love a bad name

An angel's smile is what you said
You promise me heaven, then put me through hell
Chains of love got a hold on me
When passion's a prison, you can't break free

You're a loaded gun
There's nowhere to run
No one can save me
The damage is done

Shot through the heart
And you're to blame
You give love a bad name
I play my part and you play your game
You give love a bad name
You give love a bad name

Paint your smile on your lips
Blood red nails on your fingertips
A school boy's dream, you act so shy
Your very first kiss was your first kiss goodbye

You're a loaded gun
There's nowhere to run
No one can save me
The damage is done

"Lithium"

I'm so happy 'cause today
I found my friends
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, that's okay
'Cause so are you
We broke our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday
For all I care
And I'm not scared
Light my candles, in a daze
'Cause I've found God

Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah

I'm so lonely, that's ok
I shaved my head
And I'm not sad
And just maybe
I'm to blame for all I've heard
I'm not sure
I'm so excited
I can't wait to meet you there
And I don't care
I'm so horny, that's okay
My will is good

Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah

I like it I'm not gonna crack
I miss you I'm not gonna crack
I love you I'm not gonna crack
I killed you I'm not gonna crack

I like it I'm not gonna crack
I miss you I'm not gonna crack
I love you I'm not gonna crack
I killed you I'm not gonna crack

I'm so happy 'cause today
I found my friends
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, but that's okay
'Cause so are you
We broke our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday
For all I care
And I'm not scared
Light my candles in a daze
'Cause I've found god

Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah

I like it I'm not gonna crack
I miss you I'm not gonna crack
I love you I'm not gonna crack
I killed you I'm not gonna crack

I like it I'm not gonna crack
I miss you I'm not gonna crack
I love you I'm not gonna crack
I killed you I'm not gonna crack

"Where's The Love?"

What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin' in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' our wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead in spreading love we spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)

what you give

Who's the one that makes you happy?
Or maybe, who's the one always on your mind?
And who is the reason you're living for?
Who's the reason for your smile?

I feel so lonely and I know I'm not the only one
To ever feel this way
I love you so much that I think I'm going insane
I've gone crazy, Outta my head
I've gone crazy, Outta my head
Can't think about nothin' but your good, good love
And what you give

Everyone needs somebody
And you know
Everybody needs someone
Well then I guess it's true
Everybody needs a special kind of love
And you're the only one I'm thinking of
You mean the world to me
You are my only

I feel so lonely and I know I'm not the only one
To carry on this way
I love you so much I lose track of time
Lose track of the days
I'm goin' outta my head
Goin' crazy, Outta my head
Can't think about nothin' but your good, good love
And what you give

It's not what you got, It's what you give
It ain't the life you choose, it's the life you live
It's only what you give
It's not what you got
But the life you live
It's the life you live

And you're the one that makes me happy
Oh yeah baby
And you're the one always on my mind
Well then I guess it's true
You are my reason
My one and only
That I've been living for
Why can't forever be
Forever and nothing more?

I feel so lonely and I know I'm not the only one
To ever feel this way
I love you so much I lose track of time
Lose track of the days
I'm goin' outta my head
Goin' crazy, Outta my head
Can't think about nothin' but your good, sweet love
And what you give

It's not what you got, It's what you give
It ain't the life you choose, It's the life you live
It's not what you got, It's what you give
And it ain't what it's not, But what it is
Only what you give

It's not what you got, But what you give
Only what you give
It's only what you give, yeah
Can't get enough girl, of that sweet lovin' baby
What you give

Big Ones (1994)
Eat the Rich

Well I woke up this morning
On the wrong side of the bed
And how I got to thinkin'
About all those things you said
About ordinary people
And how they make you sick
And if callin names kicks back on you
Then I hope this does the trick

'Cause I'm sick of your complainin'
About how many bills
And I'm sick of all your bitchin'
'Bout your poodles and your pills
And I just can't see no humor
About your way of life
And I think I can do more for you
With this here fork and knife

chorus:
Eat the Rich: there's only one thing that they're good for
Eat the Rich: take one bite now - come back for more
Eat the Rich: I gotta get this off my chest
Eat the Rich: take one bite now, spit out the rest

So I called up my head shrinker
And told him what I done
He said you best go on a diet
Yeah I hope you have some fun
And a don't go burst a bubble
On rich folk who get rude
'Cause you won't get in no trouble
When you eats that kind of food
Now they're smoking up their junk bonds
And then they go get stiff
And they're dancing at the yacht club
With Muff and Uncle Biff
But there's one good thing that happens

When you toss your pearls to swine
Their attitudes may taste like ****
But go real good with wine

chorus

Believe in all the good things
That money just can't buy
Then you won't get no bellyache
From eatin' humble pie
I believe in rags to riches
Your inheritance won't last
So take your Grey Poupon my friend
And shove it up your ass!

chorus:
Eat the Rich: there's only one thing that they're good for
Eat the Rich: take one bite now - come back for more
Eat the Rich: don't stop me now I'm goin' crazy
Eat the Rich: that's my idea of a good time baby

gotta run stephen.

tink, wasn`t Bacchus also known as Dionysus Greek god of madness, ecstasy, and wine? (I`m not well versed in mythology)

The description, esoterically, has shades of the Mevlevi`s whirling dervish`s.

And to take it one step further, knowing the esoteric meaning of word usage in the culture gives it the taste of intention and completes the definitive meaning/intent.

An example I see often is Rumi and his poetry. Without knowing the sufi`s esoteric meaning of mole, dimple, curl, tavern drunkeness and so forth , one does not understand the poetry as ment by the sufi poet. It becomes open to literal translation and the intent lost.

The same goes for Tagore, or even Nostradamus, or the prophets of old.
Meaning is lost if we do not take into account who they were, and the times in which they lived, including the idioms and metaphors, Midrash, and so forth of those times/cultures.

Good lord, juni, aren't there enough opened worm cans around here?

Well, yes and no, I suppose. Bacchus is the Latin "equivalent" of the Greek Dionysus. But a god is only as good as the people that perceive him and, in that respect, the Greek Dionysus is a bit different that the Roman Bacchus. The Greeks understood, and included, the essential element of Hades in their mystery rites. Heraclitus said "Hades is Dionysus". Perception and practice disintegrate over time.

You can see the Dionysian stream join Christianity in a very obvious way through Paul's student Dionysius the Areopagite. "Dionysius" being a title granted upon initiation, much like the "Beloved" used by some Judaic schools and by the early Christians - as in John the Beloved.

I read a nice Russian essay comparing Apollo and Dionysus awhile ago. If I can find it again I'll send it to you.

Incidentally, eating raw meat was a common element of Bacchanalian revels.

"Happy is he who has seen these Mysteries before he passes beneath the earth. He knows the truth about life's ending." ~ Pindar

Goodness...I'm just not very fast at posting a response. I usually take hours gestating and literally engineering my words in order to post something that is agreeable to my own standards. Well...most of the time, anyway.

As far as the topic of the thread, I've gone from born carnivore to self-righteous vegetarian and back again to eating meat. I mostly eat chicken, fish and the occasional slices of bacon. Having been a vegetarian for over 6 years, I dare not take the possible risks involved in eating red meat again.

True story: I became a vegetarian for "spiritual" reasons.

My intentions noble and my conviction galvanized, I captained that ship of self-indulgent pride for a long, long time.
One day, after several storms out in the sea -
storms that erupted from the cavernous mouth of my self-perceived piety -
my ship crashed into the jagged edges of a shining epiphany:

Even after several years of practice, my vegetarianism did not make me a better person.

To the surprise of the vastness of my own self-image, I realized that there were people who were better than me. People who ate meat!

That's when I truly realized that a vegetarian diet does not an Eagle make. It is much harder to harness one's place in the world when you've got a stake to drive through everyone's heart. In my own experience, my path of vegetarianism was rough not because vegetarianism is a faulty practice. I just wasn't listening to the right voice.

Is it true that the more spiritually-evolved are less likely to eat meat?

Possibly.

But answering that question as if you know the answer, does not precisely mean that you do.

Can the self in senses fine?
We often glean and seldom dine.

I hope that's good enough for you, TINK.

I'll get back to homework now.

"The Sileni of Alcibiades" seems to have turned into a proverb among the learned; certainly it appears as a proverb in the Greek collections. It can be used about something which on the surface and at first sight (as the saying goes) seems worthless and ridiculous, but which on closer and inward consideration proves admirable, or about someone whose clothes and physical appearance are much less promising than what they hide in their heart. It seems the Sileni were statuettes divided in half and put together so that they could be opened up and the interior displayed. When closed they portrayed some ridiculous and monstrous flute player, but when opened all of a sudden they displayed a god. The amusing deception was designed to show off the skill of the carver. The exterior subject of these figures was taken from that ridiculous character Silenus, the schoolteacher of Bacchus, and the jester of the gods as portrayed in poetry, or they have their buffoons like the princes of our own day. Thus, in Plato's Symposium, Alcibiades begins his speech in praise of Socrates by comparing him with these Sileni, on the grounds that like them he was quite different when you got to know him properly from what one would imagine from his outward appearance and manner.

~ Erasmus Desiderius

SILENUS
sîlçˈnəs, in Greek mythology, part bestial and part human creature of the forests and mountains. Part of Dionysus' entourage, the sileni are usually represented as aged satyrs—drunken, jolly, bald, fat, bearded, and possessing horse ears. According to some myths they were prophets; but according to others they were so perpetually stupefied with drink that they were unable to distinguish truth from falsehood. In some legends only one such creature appears, Silenus, described as the oldest of the satyrs, the son of Hermes or Pan. He was the companion, adviser, or tutor of Dionysus.
http://www.questia.com/library/encyclopedia/silenus.jsp

Alcibiades compares Socrates to a Silenus statue. Silenus, the teacher and companion of Dionysos, was generally protrayed as an older, uglier Satyr (half-man half-goat, dedicated to drink and pleasure), constantly drunk, and with an erection. Socrates is, once again, accused of being hubristes – just like Marsyas who challenged Apollo to a musical contest – and lost. But Socrates is more amazing than Marsyas, because he exercises his charms without the aid of a musical instrument – just with his words. Socrates shares the physical appearances of these characters – bulging eyes, snub nose, thick lips – and their “amazing power”.

But he is different from them, because under that exterior, his ‘inner statues’ are astoundingly beautiful. He doesn’t really care about physical beauty – and as we know, he never gets drunk. In fact, he “spends his whole life pretending” (eironeuomenos). Alcibiades tells the story of his own failed seduction of Socrates.. In traditional fashion, Alcibiades wishes to exchange his good looks, his sexual favours, for Socrates’ wisdom. He is driven to take up the position of lover, pursuer himself. But Socrates is impervious to his charms – he insults them – and makes fun (with irony) of the proposed bargain. Socrates is here very unlike the figure of Silenus or the Satyrs. Alcibiades explains his candour and frankness here as resulting from the intoxication of philosophy. He has been “struck and bitten by the words of philosophy” and has suffered from “the madness and Bacchic frenzy of philosophy”. Once again, a connection is being drawn between philosophy and eros, drunkeness, inspiration, divine madness (at least in its younger devotees – but not in Socrates, of course).

The Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

"Try to do something for your people -- something difficult. Have pity
on your people and love them. If a man is poor, help him. Give him and
his family food, give them whatever they ask for. If there is discord
among your people, intercede.
Take your sacred pipe and walk into their midst. Die if necessary in
your attempt to bring about reconciliation. Then, when order has been
restored and they see you lying dead on the ground, still holding in
your hand the sacred pipe, the symbol of peace and reconciliation,
then assuredly will they know that you have been a real chief."

The two times I seriously attempted to be a vegetarian, it literally almost killed me.
Ill is an understatement for what I experienced.
Some of us must eat red meat whether we want to or not.
Not going into medical reasons why, it is no one's business and complicated to boot.

I'm anemic by way of not having enough hemoglobin in my blood because of the lack of iron intake (red meat). I can't see myself eating red meat more than once a week so I'd rather intake Fe orally.

Its not that I'm knocking vegetarians either, as I respect the discipline they have not to take in ANY meat but not everyone can afford alternatives though so the absence of red meat or any other kind is not a choice. And if people enjoy meat without a clear conscience, why should that be faulted? We aren't naturally born herbivores.

You are right, LEXX; it is nobody's business.
I'm not really interested in what individuals are doing;
I don't even want to know if they are vegetarian or what.
My purpose is not to put any individual on the defensive here.
I am just contributing to a thread I started about meat-eating.
Your business is your own, and I have no interest in it.
I personally believe that there must be ways to make up for whatever
it is the red meat seems to be doing for you; nutritional alternatives.
I think if you eat enough green vegetables, beans and grains,
and possibly take a B-12 or a B-complex, that might do the trick.
If you feel you have honestly done all in your power,
then, that should be enough for you.

As for me,
I never asked about your diet,
or about anybody else's diet,
and it is neither here nor there
as far as I am concerned.

Your choices are your own.
I'm just trying to offer whatever
information I seem to have found.

Peace to you

NosiS,

I appreciate your thoughts.
I know there are better people than myself.
One such man was Mahatma Gandhi.
I try to follow in his footsteps,
even in my own clumsy,
desperate ways.

"I do feel that spiritual progress does demand at some stage
that we should cease to kill our fellow creatures
for the satisfaction of our bodily wants."

“Earth provides enough to satisfy
every man's need, but not every man's greed”

~ Mohandas K. Gandhi

Peace to you, Brother

You are right, LEXX; it is nobody's business.
I'm not really interested in what individuals are doing;
I don't even want to know if they are vegetarian or what.
My purpose is not to put any individual on the defensive here.
I am just contributing to a thread I started about meat-eating.
Your business is your own, and I have no interest in it.
I was not trying to be combative, it is simply that my medical reasons are uncommon and I'd rather not detail them here. Enough of my medical has already been revealed.

I personally believe that there must be ways to make up for whatever
it is the red meat seems to be doing for you; nutritional alternatives.
For most folks..yes, I agree. I wish I was able to. But despite your opinion, I am not able.

I think if you eat enough green vegetables, beans and grains,
and possibly take a B-12 or a B-complex, that might do the trick.
LOL! I eat more variety of green vegetables than most folks do! I love them! Lentils also! Grains and beans I must be very careful with. I cannot consume much of them or would suffer terribly and not talking gas either. I must get B12 by injection. But that is not enough nor my only problem.

If you feel you have honestly done all in your power,
then, that should be enough for you.
I have been to several specialists. I know I have done and am doing all that I can do. I do not "feel" I have...
I know I have.

As for me,
I never asked about your diet,
or about anybody else's diet,
and it is neither here nor there
as far as I am concerned.

Your choices are your own.
I'm just trying to offer whatever
information I seem to have found.

Geeez! I did not say you were asking.
However re-read your posts. Many do come across as judgmental of meat eaters.

And the title of this thread is after all:
quote:
Do People EAT MEAT To Be CRUEL??

It was not to offer alternatives to meat eating...or else it would have a different title.
It was a clear question with serious innuendos, about the character of meat eaters....that perhaps they take sadistic pleasure in the killing of animals and eating their flesh.

I posted what I posted to illustrate that some must consume meat.
That is about dietary factors.
I do not eat meat to be cruel.
I have answered your question the best I can.
So have others here.
I see no one here eating meat to be cruel.
It would have to be an insane person to take sadistic pleasure in eating meat!
So by that token...
I found the title of this thread odd and wonder why you worded it as such.
Do you honestly believe folks eat meat to be cruel?????????????????????
