I don't use a bread maker. I make it by hand because I like to pound it to death. It's more fun that way IP: Logged |

yes it would seem a lot of people have their priorities in the wrong place, like where the sun doesn't shine; if the fuss about the "food safety" bill is on the mark you won't even be able to bake your own bread. however the fact that the white house has just started its own kitchen garden in an attempt to lead by example i suspect the reality is not as desperate as some of us fear.in fact i keep coming back to "the only thing we have to fear..." which whatever you think of FDR was one of the most powerful inspirations ever uttered. Katatonic, well-said.I'm a huge advocate of kitchen gardens. It's tastier anyway. All this doom and gloom stuff..... we're going to just roll with all of this. Besides, after spending time in some 3rd world places and seeing the level of poverty and how people STILL survive and some get on very well, I am not really all that terrified for us. We're all well-fed people on here pretty much. We're all very lucky. Food isn't going anywhere for a while. We can always grow it. There's absolutely no reason for freaking out. IP: Logged |

** If that had been me l would have confronted every woman coming out of that shop. ** yes .. i can just imagine it i'm starting to think maybe your asc. is capricorn ..question for the political minded ( given that ~ katatonic ~ be here ) .. and i suppose i could google this .. but .. is their a good site where i can read about just what powers the usa president has ?? just curious is all .. after reading one or two threads in GU and now the biz. re GM motors .. talking of motors .. i've been thinking down the lines of a landrover freelander 2 .. but now thinking .. how about a hot-rodded fiat panda four by four .. evidently the italian coppers use them in the alps in an attempt to catch villians .. ( a mini was one of my favourite motors for the 'fun-factor' ) IP: Logged |

you know, happy (forgive me i love happy as a name) - the constitution is a good place to start. or ask jwhop, who appears to have some very specific info on that very question...not that i always agree with his interpretations but he seems to have his finger on the sources. the constitution is not an easy/short read!! maybe you should start a thread in GU about it!i'm also sure that googling would give you some answers. bear in mind that presidents have been known to employ all sorts of manoeuvers that were called unconstitutional by SOME and praised by others as necessary measures. no names here... as to the food situation, i have been thinking "kitchen garden" for years. my ideal would be a small manor in wiltshire but for now an alottment will have to do. my patch of ground isn't really suitable because of too much or too little sun, not enough space, and dogs who roam free in the neighbourhood. but the last year it has been pretty obvious to me that grow your own should be the motto of everyone who possibly can...IP: Logged |

i think there are a few subjects getting intertwined here, maybe beyond recognition? the people buying expensive stuff inside and ignoring the woman outside sound like they belong to the "its bad karma to give to beggars" school. or possibly the "why should i subsidize the lazy good for nothing tv-watching single mom and her brats" school. or the "poverty/prosperity are a choice" school (when it is used to justify denial and greed). BREAKING NEWS Detroit News BureauGeneral Motors (GM) announced news of a name change today to O'Bomber Motors. Since taking over the auto giant, El Presidente has moved swiftly to consolidate his power, appointing an O'Bomber puppet and former CFO of GM to ostensibly run O'Bomber Motors. Reached for comment on the change in management, El Presidente said "O'Bomber Motors is moving swiftly into non polluting vehicle production and expects to release it's first non polluting vehicle in June". When asked what experience he has to run a complex industrial giant like the former General Motors, El Presidente responded that he knows what Americans want to drive. As for experience, El Presidente said "I've been successful in turning America around, creating jobs, freeing up lending, stopping foreclosures, lowering consumer prices and expanding the economy". When asked why CBO, (Congressional Budget Office) numbers show exactly the opposite economic results, El Presidente said "we have our own accountants at the White House". New O'Bombermobile undergoing steering tests. Scheduled for roll-out in June, the O'Bombermobile is slated to be the Cadillac of the non polluting line. Tests show zero carbon pollution, zero CO2 emissions and decent mileage getting 10 miles per gallon running on Kool-Aid. A smaller flex-fuel economy model is said to be on the drawing boards at O'Bomber Motors tentatively penciled in as the O'Bombermobile Jr. with target mileage of 15 miles per gallon running on either Kool-Aid or Gatorade. El Presidente said his next project is American food production. "I know what Americans want to eat and the growers, distributors and supermarket chains aren't making it widely available to consumers. Soon, you will see less beef, pork, chicken, fish, dairy products and bread in supermarkets and a lot more arugula."

i was going to answer some of that but then i wondered, is this going to turn into another argument thread?? that's called hijacking isn't it??i'm sure that's unconstitutional as well... however it is erroneous to say humans emit no carbon dioxide - well according to MY bio teacher... IP: Logged |

Are we arguing..here???? Oh dears, I certainly hope not. Arguing is restricted to the GU forum. Don't worry katatonic, El Presidente has the human produced CO2 problem covered too. He's going to prohibit exhaling. Yeah sunshine_lion, I was proud of Ford for telling O'Bomber to stuff his bailout money too. hehehee Lara, O'Bomba. Sounds like a dance. Is it related to the "Turkey Trot".

~ Katatonic ~ ** the constitution is a good place to start. ** ok .. .. makes sense :-) .. ( thanx )*** or ask jwhop,*** hhhhmmmm .. .. thought of that .. been musing over that possibilty for a couple of years now .. and it means going over to GU .. ( the Lion's compound .. please note capital "L" .. ;-) and risking life and limb .. not to mention sanity and temper :-) plus the temptation to say things like .. ' if it weren't for the french .. you'd all be drinking PG tips instead of fine coffee ' ' give king george a bit of credit for being daft in the head ' and not being the arGUmentative type .. thought i'd give that one a miss .. however .. also figured ~jwop~ would be keeping an eye on things .. and if 'politics' were to be mentioned anywhere within the LL compound .. then .. a visitation might be a possibility .. ( cancer ascendant strategy ) ** who appears to have some very specific info on that very question..** yes .. noted .. .. ;-)) reading the constitution seems like a good place to start .. ( 'n next step .. figure out the elephant and donkey ) ** O'Bomber Motors. ** ** El Presidente said "we have our own accountants at the White House". ** a thought .. re prg mars retro in usa chart .. natal mars in gemini .. the usa .. thru this current crisis .. will end up totaly re-inventing personal transport .. for the better .. ( ok .. it was just a hopeful thought ) IP: Logged |

i mentioned arguing because of the title of this particular thread...and i was going to start arguing.and yes, happy dragon, your ploy appears to have worked, disingenuous as it might seem. as for transport, i am perfecting my teleportation skills. seems they may be essential if everyone's gloomy predictions come to pass (or even 1 percent of them!)
