Ahahahaha! I didn't even know that was their name. They just grow in our garden in the spring, and I'm like "Oh, pretty!"

Oh, dear. I don't even like to think about it...but I can't fathom that we're the only ones loitering around in this Universe.

Yeah, I always loved them.

Probably the first ones I tried to propagate, that and the Red-Hot FirePokers.

Needless to say, without the bulbs, a lost cause.

Another case of a plant with a wild nature as well.

Yes...unfortunately, when I dug out what was left of the lovely garden when we moved in (it had turned into a crazy tangle of tall grass and irises that wouldn't bloom), I tried to save all of the little bulbs, but I wasn't able to.
Thankfully, I was able to keep a lot of them still intact or we wouldn't have any spring flowers yet!

They really are so pretty...

Went ahead and put them all in, including the Ebb Tide.

Really wanted to make an Antique Rose Garden, but that purple one is too much to resist.

Got the Damask, the Temple Musk, and maybe the Parsons Pink soon.

Ebb Tide is a Floribunda, so it really doesn't fit. The David Austin was not strictly an Antique Rose, but it is a cross. So, a difficult decision. Couldn't just let it sit there in that band, though; had to get it in the ground, so there it is.

They're looking just beautiful, and oh so happy to be in the ground and have room to spread their feet!

They already look fuller.

I put the Himalayan Musk climber right at the base of the California Redwood, ooo, it will set it off so nicely!

Pink and Purple at the gate...

Will make up the metal tags tomorrow.

Think I will hang them on the fence for now. Then you can read them as you see them. The trunks will need space to grow.

Those plastic ones lose it in the sun long before the rose does.

Nice to have deer protection.

My neighbour says the Roses are like Truffles to them, ha.

Today:

Oh, and another thing.

When I was looking out my kitchen window; lo and behold, a hummingbird darts around the corner, bypasses the feeder like it's not even there, heads straight on for my window, hovers there looking straight at me for a bit, then flits off back around the bend.

It was a Trip.

This was the closest I could find to it, although it was facing me:

Making sure I was there to make the refill soon, I guess.

Looks like it transplanted fine.

(Jasmine.)

Really missed it on the grape arbour back porch swing area.

Oh, it smells Divine...

Also filled my second Hummingbird Feeder of the Season, much to the relief of my viewfinder jewel, no doubt.

Okay, this one opened today, and I think this is the right identification:

Nice to go out and pick one fresh when a recipe calls for it. Even though it's blooming, we still have one or two left...

It's a pretty nice arrangement, a lemon and a lime; then that prostrate rosemary weeping down the bank, finally a round of Rhaphiolepis surrounding a round of lawn, with a Pistachio Tree centred.

Classical Landscaping.

"Lemon Tree"
(Peter, Paul & Mary)

When I was just a lad of ten, my father said to me,
"Come here and take a lesson from the lovely lemon tree."
"Don't put your faith in love, my boy," my father said to me,
"I fear you'll find that love is like the lovely lemon tree."

Chorus:
Lemon tree, very pretty, and the lemon flower is sweet,
But the fruit of the lemon is impossible to eat.
Lemon tree, very pretty, and the lemon flower is sweet,
But the fruit of the lemon is impossible to eat.

One day beneath the lemon tree, my love and I did lie,
A girl so sweet that when she smiled, the stars rose in the sky.
We passed that summer lost in love, beneath the lemon tree,
The music of her laughter hid my father's words from me.

Chorus

One day she left without a word, she took away the sun.
And in the dark she left behind, I knew what she had done.
She left me for another, it's a common tale but true,
A sadder man, but wiser now, I sing these words to you.

Chorus

Songwriters
HOLT, WILL

Those Flowers really DO smell sweet...

Oh! Heavenly Sweet.

Fiddleneck

"Sara"
(Bob Dylan)

I laid on a dune, I looked at the sky
When the children were babies and played on the beach
You came up behind me, I saw you go by
You were always so close and still within reach

Sara, Sara
Whatever made you want to change your mind?
Sara, Sara
So easy to look at, so hard to define

I can still see them playin’ with their pails in the sand
They run to the water their buckets to fill
I can still see the shells fallin’ out of their hands
As they follow each other back up the hill

Sara, Sara
Sweet virgin angel, sweet love of my life
Sara, Sara
Radiant jewel, mystical wife

Sleepin’ in the woods by a fire in the night
Drinkin’ white rum in a Portugal bar
Them playin’ leapfrog and hearin’ about Snow White
You in the marketplace in Savanna-la-Mar

Sara, Sara
It’s all so clear, I could never forget
Sara, Sara
Lovin’ you is the one thing I’ll never regret

I can still hear the sounds of those Methodist bells
I’d taken the cure and had just gotten through
Stayin’ up for days in the Chelsea Hotel
Writin’ “Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands” for you

Sara, Sara
Wherever we travel we’re never apart
Sara, oh Sara
Beautiful lady, so dear to my heart

How did I meet you? I don’t know
A messenger sent me in a tropical storm
You were there in the winter, moonlight on the snow
And on Lily Pond Lane when the weather was warm

Sara, oh Sara
Scorpio Sphinx in a calico dress
Sara, Sara
You must forgive me my unworthiness

Now the beach is deserted except for some kelp
And a piece of an old ship that lies on the shore
You always responded when I needed your help
You gimme a map and a key to your door

Sara, oh Sara
Glamorous nymph with an arrow and bow
Sara, oh Sara
Don’t ever leave me, don’t ever go
