I thought it would be nice to walk through my garden with you as it flows through the different faces of the year by posting each flower as it blooms. If I can keep up... Today: Peach Tree! This is a wonderful, juicy little white peach, maybe a Babcock, not sure. The guy who planted it was really smart. He put the good peach over here near the house, while the other; more prolific, but not as good a peach, was across the street by the mailboxes and far more accessible. Nice to share, but the really good ones stay close to home. IP: Logged |

We have a few tiny shoots coming up out of the ground, and one little flower that looks like it might bloom (probably a crocus). So I took my son around the garden as I was weeding it, and showed him the "teeny, tiny little baby flowers", and he stroked them so gently... But so far, nothing quite blooming yet. But we're almost there! IP: Logged |

Haha. Yes, they are. Even when they're throwing a tantrum at the gift store at the local tourist attraction and you have to take them outside for a time-out. We still got to look at the crocuses, and he stroked them ever so gently. IP: Logged |

Soon, I hope, these too. White is always closer to the heart, so more vigorous. Really, really love the Pink. IP: Logged |

That's an interesting mix. You seem busy as a bee, yourself! These are nice this time of year: So glad to hear you have bees, they are precious... (Just finished my toast & Honey, YUM!) My Hummingbirds are still braving the rain to get to the feeder. It's like going through a Waterfall to get to the Crystal Cave inside, they will come up to the sheets of rain, then get wet and back off; shaking the rain, then back to the Ligustrum to sit and watch and wait. I'm standing at my kitchen sink; looking out the window past all the little Lighthouses and cheering them through... Come on, come on; you can make it! Lovely, Flickering Jewel-Bright little Gems. Aw, it snowed yesterday and last night. Poor birds and little flower shoots. I hope they all make it okay. IP: Logged |

My favorite flower;Daffodils I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed--and gazed--but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils. - William Wordsworth IP: Logged |

Dandelion! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u44fnI1bg3M "Jack in the Green" (Jethro Tull) Have you seen the 'Jack In The Green'? With his long tail hanging down He quietly sits under every tree In the folds of his velvet gown He drinks from the empty acorn cup The dew that dawn sweetly bestows And taps his cane upon the ground Signals the snowdrops it's time to grow It's no fun being 'Jack In The Green' No place to dance, no time for song He wears the colors of the summer soldier Carries the green flag all the winter long Jack, do you never sleep? Does the green still run deep in your heart? Or will these changing times Motorways, powerlines, keep us apart? Well, I don't think so I saw some grass growing through the pavements today The rowan, the oak and the holly tree Are the charges left for you to groom Each blade of grass whispers 'Jack In The Green' Oh Jack, please help me through my winter's night And we are the berries on the holly tree And the mistlethrush is coming Jack, put out the light Songwriters IAN ANDERSON IP: Logged |

Whilst walking to post a letter yesterday, I happened to see!a Dandelion. Tenacious little buster, he drove through the cracks and bloomed right through the rain! It brought to mind these lyrics^ highlighted above. And on that note, I am reminded of the words of Percy Bysshe Shelley (yet again) quote: If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?

[/QUOTE]It reminds me of a poem an ex wrote once, that ended with something like "Down on Ranier, blackberries grow through chain link fences" No matter how hard humans try, Nature will continue to push her way through our little barriers. IP: Logged |

Ain't it the Truth?Well, maybe not strictly in bloom, but a definite asset to the "Yellow Season" as I like to think of it... (There are White and Purple Seasons, too.) These Lemon Trees really brighten up a day!

Ooooh...I wish we could grow lemons here! When I did live in Southern California when I was younger for a brief stint, we had so many different types of fruit in our yard that it boggled my mind. Coming from the Colorado Rockies where we had been living, it was really cool to see a completely different place. IP: Logged |

Yeah, the hillside has become exposed a bit underneath, and you can see where he put burlap to help insulate. It is relatively sheltered, and they wrapped it with plastic bags on top.(Some people use Christmas Lights.) There is a Lime Tree right next to it, but it's a bit spindly. It really is nice when a recipe calls for a lemon, to send the kids out to pick one for me. But I'm telling you, the Summers are TOO HOT! IP: Logged |

Too hot in the summer where I grew up as well. Washington is crazy like that. Rain and nothing but green as far as the eye can see on one side of the cascades, and a hot, brown desert on the other side with nothing but sloping hills that remind me of an elephant's skin. But lots of fruit there, thanks to irrigation. In other news...FINALLY! This little fella has been trying to make his way into the world in our garden, and today he finally did. YAY!

Yes indeed!Now...if we move to California (which it seems fairly likely that we're going to do at some point in the near future), I will miss this anticipation of looking for signs of Spring. But I'm sure there will be other interesting things. Also, we've cancelled our trip, Ellyn. But we may soon be living much closer to you than we are currently! Wish us luck with our crazy adventure... I'll be trying to find you when we make our way down there. Hopefully no later than September, but we'll see what the Universe has in store. IP: Logged |

Yay! I do love those orange-yellow poppies. They grow around here just on the side of the road, and I used to gather those up with other odd wild flowers growing in the cracks of the pavement, and make up pretty bunches to stick in coffee cups. IP: Logged |
