What to do about feral cats and them using the garden for a litter box and killing songbirds?

I have two rescued fixed cats who go to vet and are healthy. One is an indoor outdoor cat and one is a house cat. I worry they will get pests and disease from these cats.

I also do not like the tonnage of poop and the pee from these ferals killing my garden.

Pounds are full. People feed the strays but take no other responsibility for them.
A few people try to trap neuter and release but even the fixed ones ruin my garden.

I love my gardens and am basically an animal lover.
In my neighborhood there are literally thousands of feral and strays reproducing daily.

How do I protect my garden and pets?

These cats are wild like any other wild animal. If you trap them you can release them in a far off place. This is the best option as far as i know. But that does not mean you will not encounter future problems.

There is another option if you want to heal what is going on inside if you. What part of you iscnot being accepted? fighting creates resistance. Metaphysically cats represent intuition and the wild part in you. Can you look at those cats and understand what part of you that you need accept? If you find compassion and put a food bin at the limit of your property they will not need to enter your garden. You will show them your boundary and accept them. I think researching feral cats as an animal totem may help.

I love animals and foster all mammals yet I well know the problem of feral animals causing chaos.

Feral cats carry many diseases and are destructive to property. It is so sad they are left to run and breed.

Have you called animal rescue groups to seek aid in trapping, helping fund in neutering/spaying the cats for release?

A fixed animal is a happier, healthier and better neighbor.

There are safe repellent sprays you can make or purchase.

I would certainly investigate them as well as seek aid in finding a program to help fix them to stop breeding and better health.

I also like PS`s idea of looking into cat totems

I do like cats even feral ones. They do not eat anything from my garden. They leave their waste there. Massive quantities. So much that mmy garden reeks like a litter box.

There are round worms in the waste so, for me, there is no getting my bare hands or feet in the soil and no just puttering with the plants.

The city was going to help the area problem but has not. Even spayed and neutered cats leave waste several times a day.

Multiply that by thousands of cats in the neighborhood! Yes, thousands.

The wild cat totem comments were good but I have no problem with my wild side. I ride a motorcycle that can go 200mph if I would wish to and make frequent rode trips of 3-4 thousand miles alone...

Just tired of my soil and plants being ruined
By feral poop and the frogs, toads, and little lizards being killed for sport as well as the song birds...

Yikes! I have to admit I drove over 100mph in a car about 25 years ago and swore I would never do it again. I can't imagine that speed riding a motorcycle!

It didn`t work for me but the greatest thing to save my furniture was the cat emery board scratcher.

I tried everything until I hit on this and it has been wonderful. It actually works as a nail file and scratcher.
To introduce kitty to it, sprinkle a little catnip on it and kitty falls in love with the scratcher and your furniture is left alone.

I bought mine at Wal Mart but many online stores carry them.

great tip
my cats like to stretch high up, instead of vertically, though
I have a scratch pad hanging from a door knob but they reach even higher now.
