Freezing freezing freezing, rain rain rain. We get rain and freezing from November to June, and then we get rain with sun from June to October. Oh! Totally off-topic, but I just remembered... my parents went on a vacation to Scotland once, and brought me back a pendant that was somehow made of compressed heather flowers and resin or something along those lines... looked almost like abalone shell. Have you ever seen something like that?IP: Logged |

Thanks for your explanation. Didn't need to light your woodstove. When I lived in California in late 1970s/80, I was asked to live in a cabin in higher elevations of N.California, as a favor to a couple who's Father had died. They had to travel to Chicago to handle legal matters for a few months. It was December, over Christmas. The man climbed a TALL pine tree, and cut down the top, to make a Christmas tree for me. I was sooo amazed!! There's a Christmas Tree at the top of EVERY pine you see! They had a wood stove to heat the place. He split and stacked a LOT of wood before leaving, and taught me how to do it myself, just in case. I know about needing to keep the embers hot to make a fire. (Especially in the morning.) Phone was a shared party-line, poor audio. Some single hanging lightbulbs lit the kitchen area which was open to the main room. They were quite-proud to have JUST installed an indoor toilet and shower before I came there to live for a while. {Had an outhouse.} People in that vicinity lived in teepees. They tended horses and goats. Didn't believe in money... I had to muck the stable to 'buy' a bale of alfalfa and oats for the goats. Had to care for some cranky goats, a couple of dogs, cats, and fishtank. What an experience! Gave me an appreciation for modern life. The sky was sooo clear!! The noise pollution was gone.. so much so that my ears rushed for a few days, getting used to the silence. ___ Weather here is tropical and Beautiful 70s and 80s (so far). Been a bit chillier at night, but normally stays around 60 to 70's after Sun goes down. IP: Logged |

Pollen on the car heralds only one thing. The advent of regenerative Spring! At last!I blossom in Spring. Literally and metaphorically (due to my flower name). IP: Logged |

That sounds a lot like the couple who originally built this place — one of the two still lives nearby, and I’ve heard some stories about the first few years before they had a kitchen and bathroom. First thing we had to do was replace the chimney. I actually have some of the original sketches from when they were designing it... it’s a fixer-upper for sure, but utterly unique. There are a couple chicken coops as well, but I’m reluctant to take on the task of any more animals anytime soon. Our neighbors have some new baby goats, though!

Yes! They make ones with thistles in them and other wildflowers also. They are very 'Highland' ------------------ Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant - Robert Louis Stevenson (whatever you feed will grow) IP: Logged |

I returned to Athens on Saturday. End of summer holidays and I'm already tasting this familiar autumnal crispness in the air (82°F) at the beginning of a very busy week... Oh, it was only two days ago that I was on the beach, swimming, lying in the sun, playing rackets...I'm off to a brand new, exciting and full of promise academic year! Can't wait! I live for this. It's my life. IP: Logged |

The temperature has dropped more and a grey sky has been lingering all day... I think it's going to rain any minute now... Thankfully the government has been working on anti-flood infrastructures in the areas that were destroyed very soon after the fires until now.IP: Logged |

The autumnal feeling lasted only that day. Ok, maybe one or two more. Since then, we are having great weather and today the temperature has reached 95° F. I would have been at one of the nearby beaches right now, after my private lessons in the morning, but I am at the hairdresser's to have my hair done, as tomorrow we are getting my brother's baby son baptized! My hairdresser couldn't come over tomorrow, as she is away for the weekend and I told her on the phone "And you're doing very well! This is going to be a fantastic summer weekend. Don't miss it!"IP: Logged |

Saw a monarch butterfly yesterday, and a hummingbird last week… it’s getting cold enough that I’ll be surprised if I see any more. Persimmons are falling off the trees, a very reliable sign of the changing season. I’m gonna go ahead and make a prediction, first hard frost around November 5-10 for my area.IP: Logged |
